Chapter 400 Can't Hide from Her
Chapter 400 Can't Hide from Her
Before coming to Silverpeak City, Leopold contacted Quinlan and asked her to arrange an appointment with Wyatt first.
Quinlan thought it was for Leopold's medical consultation, but it turned out to be for Caroline.
Quinlan asked nervously, "What's wrong with Caroline?"
Leopold replied, "She has severe pain during her period every time. The hospital prescribed some painkillers, but they only treat the symptoms, not the root cause. She has to take them every month, and I'm worried that taking them for too long will harm her health."
"Oh, it's menstrual cramps." Quinlan felt relieved. "You didn't explain clearly. You had me so worried, I thought something serious happened to Caroline."
After hanging up, Quinlan called Wyatt to schedule an appointment for Caroline at 3 PM on Saturday.
As the car approached Quinlan's place, Leopold saw a Rolls-Royce pulling out of a parking spot.
He had seen it last time too, but Leopold didn't think much of it, assuming it belonged to a resident in the community.
The consultation was scheduled for 3 PM that day. Caroline sat in front of the consultation desk.
Wyatt examined her carefully and asked Caroline some questions, then said, "There's nothing seriously wrong. Taking some medicine to regulate your body will help."
Quinlan gently touched Caroline's shoulder and breathed a sigh of relief. "After taking the medicine, you won't be in so much pain."
Caroline smiled and nodded.
Leopold wanted to go with Wyatt to get the medicine, but Quinlan stopped him. "You stay with Caroline. I'll get the medicine."
Wyatt came to a private area and told Quinlan the truth. "There are some things I couldn't say in front of them as a couple, so I can only tell you. When I examined her just now, I found some issues."
Quinlan said, "Dr. Ramirez, please speak plainly."
Wyatt said, "She has a weak constitution, and I'm afraid it will be very difficult for her to conceive."
Quinlan's heart sank, and she became nervous too. "Dr. Ramirez, are you saying my daughter-in-law will have trouble getting pregnant? She just has regular menstrual cramps. How does that relate to pregnancy?"
Wyatt said, "This problem is what's causing her menstrual cramps, and it's also why she'll have difficulty conceiving."
Quinlan asked, "How difficult?"
Wyatt shook his head regretfully, which made Quinlan even more anxious.
He added, "But this isn't absolute. If they both maintain a positive mindset, it might help her condition. If it doesn't work, you can go to a major hospital for a checkup."
The more Quinlan listened, the heavier her heart felt, but she still reminded Wyatt, "Dr. Ramirez, don't tell my daughter-in-law about this. I'll discuss it with my son first, then we'll tell her."
Wyatt agreed and turned to go to the pharmacy to get the medicine.
Quinlan stood at the corridor window, troubled, watching Caroline under the tree in the courtyard.
Such a wonderful girl like Caroline, how could she have this problem?
Suddenly, Leopold's voice came from behind her. "Why are you standing here? Where's the medicine?"
Quinlan snapped back to reality. "Dr. Ramirez hasn't finished getting it yet."
Seeing her distracted state, Leopold stopped her. "What did Dr. Ramirez tell you?"
Quinlan briefly relayed Wyatt's words to Leopold. When he learned that Caroline might have difficulty getting pregnant, he was stunned for a moment.
"How is that possible?" Leopold's first reaction was disbelief. "It was just a regular examination. How could he diagnose infertility?"
Quinlan tried to calm Leopold down. "You're right, he might not be accurate. Tomorrow we'll take Caroline to a hospital in the city for another checkup. But don't tell Caroline what Dr. Ramirez said yet, so she doesn't feel pressured. If there really is a problem, we'll treat it. Even if Dr. Ramirez can't cure it, we'll go to an authoritative hospital."
Leopold turned his gaze to Caroline outside the window. "Got it."
He went to the courtyard to find Caroline, remembering that there were indeed a few times when they hadn't used any contraception. Caroline had worried about getting pregnant and wanted to buy emergency contraception, but he had stopped her.
Taking contraceptive pills would harm her body. If she really got pregnant, it would be a gift from heaven.
Apparently, heaven thought it had already given him too many gifts.
The weather was hot. Caroline stood in the shade under a tree. Hearing footsteps, she turned around. "Why did you come out too? Didn't you wait for Mom?"
"One person is enough to get the medicine." Leopold brushed aside her bangs. "You must be hot. Go wait in the car."
Caroline said, "I'm okay. It must have rained here yesterday, it's quite cool. By the way, I forgot to ask earlier, how long do I need to take this medicine?"
Leopold said, "One course is seven days, but you'll need to take several courses."
"Several courses?"
Leopold: "For now, Dr. Ramirez prescribed three courses."
Caroline calculated, "One course is seven days, three courses is twenty-one days. What a headache."
"Headache about what?" Leopold took her hand. "Did you forget how you convinced me to take medicine?"
Caroline said, "I can still remember how bitter that medicine was."
"Different prescriptions, it won't be very bitter."
"If it really works, I can handle the bitterness. It's better than menstrual cramps." Caroline looked up. A beam of light shone through the gaps in the leaves onto her face. She squinted, and the next second the light was blocked. When she opened her eyes again, she saw Leopold standing in front of her.
She smiled. "This is where the benefits of being married show."
Leopold playfully lifted her chin. "Shouldn't this be the advantage of being tall?"
Seeing the thin layer of sweat on Caroline's forehead, he urged, "Go wait in the car. You're sweating all over."
"The sunshine actually feels better. If I go in the car and the AC blows on me, I'll start hurting again." Caroline's mind was still on Wyatt's diagnosis. "If this medicine doesn't work for me either, I'll have to use the last resort."
"What?" As Leopold was confused, Caroline said, "Have a baby."
Leopold's expression stiffened slightly, then quickly recovered. "You can't just have a baby whenever you want. Besides, didn't we say we'd focus on our careers first?"
Caroline sighed, somewhat troubled by the menstrual cramps. "But it really hurts. Every time my period comes, I'm in pain for several days."
That evening, they stayed at Quinlan's place. After dinner, Caroline went to lie down on the bed again.
Quinlan was watching TV in the living room. Seeing Leopold come out of the guest bedroom, she asked quietly, "Is Caroline asleep?"
Leopold gently closed the door. "She just fell asleep."
Quinlan gestured for him to come over. "Have some fruit."
Leopold wasn't in the mood to eat, but knew Quinlan had something to discuss. "What do you want to say?"
Quinlan had been thinking about Caroline's condition ever since leaving Wyatt's clinic. She asked calmly, "Leopold, if Caroline's condition is confirmed, what are you thinking?"
Leopold looked at her sideways. "What aspect are you asking about?"
Quinlan paused. "Don't think I'm selfish. I like Caroline too, but if she can't have children, are you really planning to never have kids for the rest of your life?"
Leopold said, "Right now I can only care about Caroline, not about anyone else, including you. As for whether she can have children, it's not confirmed yet. How can you be so sure she can't? If she really can't, I'll accept that outcome. Any other questions?"
Seeing his firm attitude, Quinlan said no more. "Alright, when are you planning to go to the hospital for a checkup?"
Leopold said, "We'll go back to Seaside City tomorrow, then go to the hospital."
Quinlan said, "Find a doctor you know. It's easier to get things done with connections. How are you going to explain the checkup to Caroline? You can't hide this from her."
While they were talking, the door to the guest bedroom was left slightly ajar, and the person inside heard everything clearly.
