Chapter 397 You Make Me Feel Good
Chapter 397 You Make Me Feel Good
When someone is truly loved, they can really feel it.
Even when it's cautious and careful, it's all to make them happy.
Over the Memorial Day long weekend, the chain hotels under Golden Ember Hotel were fully booked across the board.
Watching the continuously rising data on the backend, even someone as composed as Erik couldn't help but smile a bit wider with this joy.
Lily rushed into Erik's office excitedly, "Leopold said we're having dinner together tonight."
Erik was cleaning his glasses when Lily took them from him. She stood by the desk, leaning in close to look at Erik's eyes, and said, "I just realized, you have such beautiful eyes, and your eyelashes are even longer than mine."
Erik felt embarrassed being looked at like this and leaned back slightly. The next second, Lily grabbed his collar and pulled him closer.
With their faces close together, Lily gazed into his eyes and asked, "Why don't you try contact lenses?"
Erik caught the pleasant scent of Lily's perfume, which made his heart race, but since they were at the office, he collected himself before saying:
"I tried them before, but I wasn't really used to them."
"Oh, I see. Never mind then." Lily put his glasses back on for him, "You look pretty handsome this way too."
Erik thought for a moment, then opened a drawer and took out a box of daily disposable contact lenses.
Dinner that evening.
Leopold left early to pick up Caroline.
After Lily finished her work, she noticed it was exactly quitting time.
She tidied up her desk, walked out of her office and called out, "Time to go, let's head to dinner."
Oscar and Liam came out from the office area one after another. Erik's office door was tightly closed with no sound coming from inside.
"You guys go ahead, I'll check on him." Lily pushed open Erik's office door and saw him uncomfortably holding his head.
She asked with concern, "What's wrong? Where do you feel bad?"
Erik waved his hand but didn't look up, "You go ahead, I'll be right there."
Lily bent down and moved his hand away, "What's really wrong? Oh my god!"
Erik's eyes were red, and his glasses were on the desk.
"What happened to your eyes?" Lily asked nervously.
Erik stammered, "It's nothing."
Lily saw a box of daily disposable contact lenses in the trash can, picked it up and asked him, "You wore them?"
Erik nodded, closing his eyes with a pained expression, "Maybe because I haven't worn them in so long, I'm a bit uncomfortable."
Lily said, "Take them out quickly."
Erik said, "But don't you like me without glasses?"
"Stop it." Lily lifted his chin, saw tears in his eyes, and leaned in to gently blow on them, "Does that feel better?"
"Yes." The discomfort eased, and Erik opened his eyes.
They were too close, and Erik's throat tightened.
Since they'd started dating, Erik had never made any moves that crossed the line with her.
Lily felt like teasing Erik, "Want a kiss?"
Erik clenched his fists and swallowed.
Lily heard his swallow clearly. She held back a laugh and slowly moved closer to him.
Erik looked at her lips, his eyelashes trembling slightly. Lily said, "No one's here now, don't be scared."
Erik turned his face away, "No."
Lily raised an eyebrow, actually quite satisfied with his reaction, "What's wrong? Do you need to go home and feed your cat again?"
Erik opened a drawer, changing the subject, "Let me put in some eye drops. You go ahead, Oscar and the others must be getting impatient."
Lily patted Erik's shoulder and said teasingly, "Don't worry, I won't make a move on you unless you agree."
Erik had just opened the eye drops when he looked at Lily's departing figure.
Would she think he had no sense of romance?
Erik caught up with her at the elevator. Lily turned to look at him, "You didn't take out the contacts?"
Erik said, "I got used to them."
"Are you really okay?" Lily asked.
Erik shook his head and asked her, "Do I look handsome?"
Lily laughed, "Didn't know you cared so much about your appearance."
The elevator door opened and they both walked in.
Erik took a deep breath and asked, "Do you find it boring being with me?"
Lily didn't understand and turned to face him, "What?"
Erik said, "I'm not very good at joking around or making you happy. I'm worried that after spending time with me, you'll find me boring."
Lily lightly bumped him with her shoulder, "What are you thinking? Why are you suddenly saying this? What, do you have some thoughts? Do you have a problem with me?"
"No." Erik rubbed his fingertips, and just before the elevator door opened, he gathered his courage and took Lily's hand, "I'm just afraid you won't like me anymore."
This was Erik's first time taking the initiative, and Lily felt a little pleasantly surprised. "Erik."
"What?" Erik's palm started to sweat.
"Have you never had a girlfriend before?"
Erik said, "I had one."
"When was that?"
Erik answered honestly, "In college."
"How long did it last?"
"Less than a month."
Lily finally understood his carefulness and uncertainty. "I get it now."
"Get what?" Erik asked.
Lily smiled, "Not telling you."
The elevator door closed but Lily pressed it open again. She linked her arm through Erik's as they walked out, and he glanced at her hand - her slender wrist, her delicate fingers.
Erik felt anxious. Precisely because he didn't have much relationship experience, he worried he couldn't take care of Lily in many ways, much less make her happy. "Lily, if there's anything I'm not doing well, please tell me."
"If I tell you, will you change?"
"Yes."
Lily patted his stiff arm, "The only thing you need to change right now is to relax."
Lily got into Erik's car. Every day Erik gave Lily rides to and from work since it was on his way.
"Erik," Lily said, "when you're with me, don't be so uptight, and don't be so nervous. You give me a good feeling, just relax."
Erik started the car with a slight smile, "Okay."
Leopold parked the car in front of the restaurant. Caroline got out of the passenger seat and asked, "What's the theme today?"
Leopold said, "Celebration dinner."
From his mood these past few days when he came home, Caroline could tell that this Memorial Day business battle had brought him some gains.
Leopold said, "Golden Ember Hotel really took off during the Memorial Day long weekend."
Caroline said, "Sounds like the marketing was very successful."
Leopold's eyes were full of hope, "Marketing was one aspect, but I didn't expect to get such strong support from the government."
Caroline asked, "What do you mean specifically?"
Leopold said, "I'm guessing Dad must have called the Bureau of Culture and Tourism. The official account had Golden Ember Hotel brand placement."
Caroline's eyes widened, "Really?"
Leopold said, "Actually, I'm not entirely sure. Lily discovered that the official account had videos of our hotel."
Caroline said, "That doesn't seem right. My dad shouldn't use his connections privately like that."
Leopold: "I'm not really clear on the details either. I'll call Dad tonight to thank him."
Walking into the restaurant, Caroline asked, "Are they here yet?"
Leopold naturally took Caroline's hand, "They should all be here."
Passing by a mirror, Caroline stopped, fixing her hair while saying, "This is my first time having dinner with your colleagues, I'm a bit nervous."
"They're all very easygoing. You already know Lily and Erik." Leopold smoothed the hair by her ear, "I'll introduce you to Oscar and Liam in a bit."
Caroline asked, "What do they do?"
Leopold replied, "Oscar handles HR, and Liam manages the finance side of things."
