Chapter 236 Husband's Feeling
You were an idiot if you played underhanded scheming to the point where there was no way out. Now Summer's plotting against him—did she really think Leopold cared about her little bit of traffic?
In the afternoon, he met with several more clients and took calls from a few suppliers. When he noticed the time again, it was already past six.
Just as he was about to contact Caroline, Erik knocked on his office door.
"Mr. Wipere, Mr. Preston Wipere wants to see you."
Leopold got up and headed out. "What's it about?"
Erik said, "Dash got into trouble outside. Mr. Preston Wipere wants you to handle it."
"Me? What about Mr. Anderson?"
Erik replied, "Mr. Anderson can't handle this one anymore."
Leopold frowned slightly, though his face showed no emotion. "What trouble did he get into this time?"
Erik whispered a few words in Leopold's ear. Leopold's expression grew darker and darker. "Idiot! Does he have a death wish?"
Leopold quickened his pace, with Erik following behind. "Mr. Preston Wipere had me book you a flight. Tomorrow morning to Eldoria."
Leopold gave a mocking smirk.
He didn't say anything, but it was as if he'd cursed under his breath.
Arriving at Preston's office door, he knocked. A voice from inside called him in.
Leopold pushed the door open and closed it behind him. Besides Preston behind the desk, Xavier was sitting on the sofa, clearly not in good spirits. When he saw Leopold, his face showed embarrassment, and he lowered his head.
"Mr. Preston Wipere, you wanted to see me."
"Sit." Preston gestured with his hand.
Leopold pulled out a chair and sat down. Preston said, "Dash was taken away by local police at our Eldoria store. I had Erik book you a flight for tomorrow morning. You need to contact the local police and find a reliable lawyer to see if we can get him out on bail."
Leopold asked knowingly, "What happened? How did it get serious enough to involve the police?"
Preston looked at Xavier, who finally stood up, walked over to sit in the chair next to Leopold, and said hesitantly, "Leopold, family matters should be handled privately, but I've got nothing to hide from you and your father. Dash was tricked by his friend into keeping a suitcase for him, saying he'd come pick it up in a couple of days. But instead of his friend showing up, the police came. They searched his room and found a whole suitcase full of illicit drugs."
Xavier continued, "He really didn't know. Look, his character might be questionable, but if you asked him to do anything involving drugs, he definitely wouldn't dare—he doesn't have the guts. I thought it over and couldn't find anyone suitable to help him, so I had no choice but to come to Mr. Preston Wipere. Mr. Preston Wipere said your Italian is good and you could help communicate over there."
As for Dash dealing with drugs, he didn't believe it either. With Dash's intelligence, managing a truck or two of fruits and vegetables would keep him busy calculating for ages, let alone large quantities of drugs.
"When was he taken in?" Leopold asked.
Xavier said, "Last night."
"Besides finding the suitcase, was there anything else?" Leopold asked.
Xavier thought for a moment. "The staff told me they only took away one suitcase at the time. Nothing else was found."
Leopold nodded and opened his phone to dial a number. When the other party answered, he communicated fluently in Italian. Until he hung up, Xavier's eyes never left Leopold's face, trying to read his expression to guess what the call was about.
"A presto." Leopold said goodbye in Italian and hung up.
He said to Xavier, "I contacted a local lawyer. He'll go to the police station first to check on Dash's situation and notify me immediately if there's any news."
Xavier said, "Leopold, thank you."
"Don't mention it, Mr. Anderson." Leopold said to both of them, "If there's nothing else, I'll head out. Early flight tomorrow, need to go home and pack."
Preston said, "Any news, make sure to notify Mr. Anderson immediately."
Leopold nodded. "Understood."
Xavier, being the one asking for help, walked Leopold all the way to the door, thanking him repeatedly before watching him leave.
Back in the office, Xavier hung his head, clearly dejected.
"Mr. Preston Wipere, I'm a bit worried."
"Worried about what?"
Xavier hesitated before saying, "Dash offended Leopold. They had quite an unpleasant falling out. I'm worried whether..."
Preston understood and said seriously, "If you don't trust him, go to Eldoria yourself and handle it. And there's one more thing I need to remind you—if Leopold really wanted to scheme against Dash, he'd definitely kick him out of the company fair and square. Would he need to plot against him?"
Xavier was left speechless.
"I was wrong, Mr. Preston Wipere." He quickly apologized.
Meanwhile, in Leopold's office, he was delegating his more urgent work to Lily, who asked, "You don't have any international trips scheduled recently?"
Leopold said, "It's an urgent matter, something added temporarily."
Lily could tell he didn't want to elaborate, so she didn't press further.
Leopold's car left Celestial Waters Hotel. Near his home, he called Caroline.
"Off work?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah. What do you want to eat? I'll stop by the supermarket to get groceries."
The intersection ahead led to the supermarket, which had very fresh vegetables and fruits. They usually shopped there.
Caroline said, "Don't buy anything. I've already made dinner."
Leopold said, "But we agreed I'd cook tonight."
Caroline laughed. "What's the difference who cooks? I'm home resting, making dinner for my husband—is that not okay?"
Leopold's mood instantly lifted. "Alright, in our house, you're always right."
Caroline chuckled. "Where are you now?"
Leopold replied, "About ten minutes from the complex. Getting impatient? What do you need me for so urgently?"
"Not at all," Caroline's face flushed, her ears burning. "I made fish stew. If you're almost here, I need to turn off the heat."
Their home was just ahead. "A hundred and fifty feet from the complex entrance."
"I'm turning off the heat."
With that, she hung up. Leopold was busy dodging cars cutting in beside him. It was rush hour, and the whole road was completely jammed.
By the time he maneuvered out of the congested traffic and looked at his phone again, Caroline had already hung up. Leopold muttered to himself, "Take you for granted once you're won over—hang up just like that."
Meanwhile, Caroline was busy in the kitchen, not giving the phone call a second thought.
When Leopold called, his tone was completely different from his serious attitude at the company. When he was with her, you could feel a very clear sense of responsibility—reliable and full of mature masculine charm, calm yet accommodating of her willfulness. In daily life, he was gentle and refined, but when emotions ran deep, wild and passionate.
Leopold walked in and smelled the aroma of food. He changed into slippers and headed straight for the kitchen, hugging Caroline from behind and gently biting her neck. "So you hung up on me."
"I told you, I was turning off the heat."
"Turning off the heat doesn't stop you from talking to me on the phone." Leopold breathed deeply into her neck. "Wife, you smell so good."
Caroline felt a bit ticklish and dodged while saying, "We use the same body wash."
"It's not the same—you smell better using it than I do. Why do you think that is?"
"How would I know?" Caroline was about to pick up the fish when Leopold took it from her. "Let me."
They walked out of the kitchen together. Leopold said, "I'm going on a business trip tomorrow. To Eldoria."
Caroline asked, "So sudden."
He didn't hide it from Caroline. "Dash was arrested in Eldoria for drug trafficking."
