Chapter 178 Late Night Call

Chapter 178 Late Night Call

The car had just pulled out from Gastronomy Royale when Leopold observed Caroline's expression. "Looks like the conversation went well."

Tonight's dinner had met Caroline's expectations. She replied, "Mr. Hearst is a smart man. He should have understood everything I said."

Leopold said, "With your current position, it's not appropriate for you to attend such dinners anymore."

It wasn't that Leopold thought too badly of people—he just wanted to be cautious.

Caroline understood. "I told him that for work matters, he should come find me at the office."

Leopold's lips curved slightly. "My wife is so smart."

Caroline said, "Actually, this Mr. Hearst is quite impressive. VoltWave Cables was about to file for bankruptcy liquidation, but under his management, it turned into a restructuring. One person saved an entire company—isn't that impressive? Do you know how he led VoltWave Cables to rise? Let me tell you..."

Caroline talked nonstop the whole way, while Leopold drove in silence.

But once they got home, he was no longer that calm person the moment he walked through the door.

The hallway light wasn't on. Leopold pushed her directly against the wall, his tall body pressing against her, trapping her between the wall and himself. Through the darkness, she clearly felt his strong displeasure.

Just as Caroline was about to speak, he lifted her chin. "You praised another man right in front of me, and kept praising him the whole way."

"What's there to be jealous about? Stop it." Caroline didn't take it seriously and pushed him, but couldn't budge him.

In the darkness, she could only see his outline, not his expression clearly.

Caroline raised her head, only to be kissed.

She reached out to push him away, but her wrists were grabbed and pinned above her head. Leopold said in her ear with a warning tone, "I'm not joking. I'm really jealous."

In his grip, Caroline's eyes gradually became hazy as kisses fell densely.

"Leopold." Caroline closed her eyes, her voice trembling.

His narrow eyes curved with a wicked arc. He leaned close to her ear with a roguish tease, "Tonight you need to remember—don't praise other men in front of me."

"I didn't." Caroline's breathing was unsteady. "That's not what I meant."

He pressed his finger against her lips. "If you meant something else, I'd really punish you."

She turned her head away, removed Leopold's hand, stood on tiptoes to hook her arms around his neck, and kissed him first.

The clumsy, unpracticed kiss made him smile knowingly, but it also made him love that awkwardness even more.

His words earlier weren't a joke, but precisely because of his possessiveness and dominance in relationships, Caroline gained an unprecedented sense of security. He didn't allow anyone else to enter their world of two, which was exactly what she required from love and marriage.

Speaking of caring, Leopold cared about her more, getting jealous over the smallest things.

Call him domineering, possessive, even childish.

But Caroline understood this was emotional possessiveness. Only absolute love could create an unbreakable marriage barrier.

Just like their love was an absolute value in mathematics, whether you input positive or negative emotions, after adding the absolute value symbol, they all become positive.

Love had no right or wrong. When feelings were there, wrong became right.

Clothes were scattered messily from the doorway all the way to the bedroom.

The night was silent. Wind played with the curtains, carrying away the sweat from their bodies.

Caroline lay face down on the bed, with Leopold's heartbeat pounding violently above her, his breathing deep and heavy.

He caught his breath and carried her to the bathroom. Just as he set her down, his phone rang in the room.

Caroline pushed him. "Go answer the phone. I can wash myself."

Leopold was indeed waiting for an important call. He picked her up with one hand, placed her on the vanity counter, and said with a mischievous grin, "You'd better wait for me."

He left the bathroom. Caroline braced herself on the edge of the counter, about to jump down, when she looked down and saw her legs trembling uncontrollably.

She was both angry and annoyed, but her body wouldn't cooperate. She could only wait for him.

Leopold came back while on the phone, holding it between his shoulder and ear as he stood in front of her. With one hand, he pressed her head against his shoulder, and Caroline instantly went limp against him.

She was so tired her eyelids felt heavy, too exhausted to notice that Leopold was admiring his handiwork in the mirror.

Thanks to working out, Caroline had a beautiful back with smooth curves at her lower back, where he had deliberately left conspicuous marks.

Looking at the body he had thoroughly ravaged, Leopold felt spiritually satisfied.

He spoke fluent English throughout. The other person was a man. At first, she could still hear their conversation, but later the voices drifted further away, and she actually fell asleep in his arms.

Only after Leopold hung up did he notice. He shook his head with a helpless smile and carried her into the bathtub.

Caroline woke up gasping for air. Opening her eyes, she found them both lying in the bathtub, with him holding the back of her neck in a deep kiss.

She asked indignantly, "Are you trying to kill me? I almost suffocated."

Leopold looked her over—her lips slightly red and moist from his kisses, her cheeks flushed pink from the steam, looking adorably delicate. Leopold licked his lips with a wicked smile and said, "You're too tempting. I couldn't help myself for a moment."

Caroline's face turned even redder, her voice soft and sweet. "If you keep this up, I won't be able to go to work tomorrow."

With that, she braced herself against the tub to get up, but Leopold pulled her back. Water instantly overflowed from the tub as she fell back into his arms.

His large hand traced along her narrow waist, settling perfectly at her lower back. With a light lift, he easily kissed her lips.

The water surface reflected their intimate silhouettes. With their movements, ripples pushed toward the edge of the tub in waves. Before long, her soft gasps merged with the steam filling the room, rising and falling—a deep night, but not a quiet one.

On the tenth day after Leopold returned to the country, Preston's phone call came.

Leopold answered, "What is it?"

It was Preston's secretary, Erik calling. "Mr. Leopold Wipere, this is Erik."

Leopold confirmed it was Preston's number again and said to Erik, "What's the matter?"

Erik relayed Preston's message. "Mr. Preston Wipere asked you to come to the company."

Leopold's gaze turned cold. "Tell him to call me himself."
