Chapter 0065;A Strong Opponent.
“There's nothing yet said from his agency, so let's just wait and for the main time you should avoid going over to his house.” James told Diana, after she was done briefing him about her dealings with him in the past week.
He didn't look angry, neither was he worried that what Xavier was going through right now was going to affect his business. No, he was laid back, rather it was Editor Linda, who seemed to be over worried about what was happening, and has again hinted at changing her, after the rumors with Xavier have died down.
“You can leave now.You have worked hard.” James told her, ignoring Linda's existence. She was being childish and insensitive to what was happening around her, to know that it was such a shame and bad timing for what she's inquiring to do.
“Yes sir.” Diana said, slightly nodding her head before taking one last look at an angry Linda before exiting the director's office.
It's not that she didn't know the right way to treat Linda, it was pretty obvious that she cab handle her ass, but hierarchy and respect was what was holding her back from treating her the way she deserved.
She already has a bad day with her mother-in-law ruining her morning, and also the situation Xavier is right now bothered her, she still found herself at loose ends being confused about calling him just to be sure that he's alright.
Yet, despite everything she hasn't found the courage to call, neither did Kelvin call her to inquire about how she's doing. She knew by now, he had already heard what she did to his mother, but it's new seeing this side of him that controlled his anger around her.
“What did he say? How was his reaction?” Jessica asked, pulling her out of her thoughts as she was trying to check her phone one last time for Kelvin's call.
“He didn't look bothered, it's just as if he knew that something like that couldn't bring Xavier down.” Diana said nonchalantly, as Jessica observed her mood for today. She's not the same person that she talked to this early morning.
“And why have you been staring at your phone, are you expecting a call from Xavier?” Jessica teased her, wiggling her brow. She hasn't stopped teasing her about something forming between her and Xavier. It's like Jessica was oblivious to the fact that she's married.
“What?!” Diana said a bit too loud and jumpy because Jessica just figured her out. She's been eager to call Xavier, but her courage wasn't bold enough to take that step.
“I knew that something was going on with you two, come on girl. Spill it out.” Jessica insisted, as Diana's cheeks went red as her mind went back to their first night. At this rate, it won't be long before Jessica finds out that she slept with Xavier.
She didn't know why she's finding it hard to control her emotions around her suddenly, but it wasn't her fault, Jessica knew her in and out. Yet she maintained her cool pulling away from Jessica.
“I do..don't know wh..what are you talking about.” She said, leaving Jessica who knew that she was hiding something from her.
Yet, Jessica didn't want to let it go, she ran after her. “Wait for me girl, it's lunch time!” She yelled.
As the two girls left, they didn't know that they had company all long that was eavesdropping on their conversation. Editor Linda has long left James' office to stop to listen to the friends gossiping.
Jessica wasn't the type to control her mouth, and when she heard her talking about Xavier and Diana, she was petrified. This could have been her in Diana's position, bagging the praises and honor for when Xaviers new story is published, and also the bagging the dick too.
But Diana was married, yet she's seducing him. She's cheating on her husband for someone like Xavier that she's not even in his league. She's still baffled at how easily Xavier made his pick out of everyone in the office that day.
He chose her without much stress, and she recalled back to Jessica's conversation with her. It was obvious that Diana was hiding something from her best friend too and it has to do with Xavier.
If only she could know what that is then she can use it against her, and gain the position that she always wanted.
If Xavier had chosen someone else in the office, it would have been easier to manipulate the fellow into giving up the position to her. Afterall, these have been her ways of getting to the top in the office.
Using people for her selfish benefits, but Diana is proving herself to be a bigger opponent than the others, and it's making her mad, like real mad that she doesn't know to what extent she's willing to go just to get her out of that deal with Xavier.
Reporter Kim was doing a bad job at tailing Diana, and finding a good reason for her to backlash her.
But she has had enough patience, this time she's going to do things her way, even if it's going to affect both companies.
If she leaks out the information about Xaviers new story out to the public before the intended time, Diana will have to take the fall for it because no one else aside her, James, Xavier and her being the senior editor have access to it.
Even if it doesn't come down to blaming her for it, at least she will be stressed including Xavier too. Then he will see the reason why he shouldn't have worked with an amateur like her.
Editor Linda smiled just at the thoughts of that happening, the look on Diana's face when what she wants is being snatched right under her nose will be marveling.
“I'm sure it will work out.” She mumbled to herself, before leaving for her office to start putting her plans into motion.
Now wasn't the right time to leak the story, since Xavier still has things ongoing with him. Once everything is settled and they're at peace, it will be short lived with the new rumor about his story.
Diana will be the one to take the blame for it, she will make sure it happens.
When she walked into the office, she saw Diana laughing with Jessica as they were talking. They shared a brief eye contact before she left for her office and shut the door with a loud bang.
