Chapter 0049:Why Wasn’t She Enough?

“Are you ready to talk?”

Anne asked him.

The two were lying in her bed, with his hands caressing her hair with no words said between them. Once again, Xavier found his way back to Anne despite the fact that she was acting weird moments ago, she has been the one to seduce him to her bed and the worst part of it all is that he let her.

Now he’s feeling guilty for what he knows nothing of, it’s not like he owed Diana any commitment but he was sure living a stupid fantasy in his head, to think that she cares if he was entangled with another woman. Maybe he should accept Anne and see if he gets to feel what he feels for her with her too.

He was committing a sin, a taboo.

Catching feelings for a married woman, if Anne gets to find out about this. He already had imagined how dramatic his life would become if she gets to know, and that’s what he’s avoiding, despite her trying to be a good friend to know what’s wrong with him.

He pulled away from her, and shifted to sit at the foot of the bed. “ It's nothing, I’m fine.” He said.

Anne’s countenance changed instantly at him pulling away from her, as if she wasn’t the same person he was cuddling with moments ago. All she did was try to be a better girlfriend to know what’s bothering him and he’s pushing her away, as usual!

She didn’t want him to leave, at least not yet. Spending the day with him will make her forget about her worries for today. He already started, it was already twelve in the afternoon.

Xavier took his phone to look at the time and once he saw that it was afternoon, he remembered that he still had a lot of work to fix for Diana coming over tomorrow. The young man went for his polo only for it to be snatched by Anne’s fast reflexes.

“What are you doing?” He asked, looking at her as if she had gone crazy. Does she want him to leave naked?

“ Stay with me, just for today, baby. It’s been..” She complained, but she wasn’t half through before he rudely interrupted her.

“ Anne, give me back the polo, don’t be stupid. I have work to do.” He told her without any emotion on his face, he was feeling detached from the very same person he had laid with moments ago.

He didn’t know what he was thinking by doing it, he had thought that he would get Diana off his mind for the day, but it wasn’t working. He has become a worthless love sick fellow overnight.

“You could do that in the night, I will be bored with just me here, please daddy. Stay with me.” She said, coming over to kiss his shoulder blade but he pushed her down to the bed.

“Stop acting so helpless Anne, it’s so annoying.”He said coldly, while the young lady’s eyes watered at his words. Why does he have to be so harsh on her?

He took his polo from the bed where it sat by the side of her leg, but a slap met his face instead and he saw red.

Diana had slapped yesterday, and now her?

He controlled himself because mother Catherine raised a good child. He didn’t grow up with the mindset of hitting a lady but this was the very same act that got her in a scandal with one of her exes, what was his name again?

He laughed, “You know I’m not surprised why nobody wants to be with you , you are so overbearing and you act like a child when you don’t get what you want, but it’s time to grow up, Maryanne.” He called her, by her government name just so she could know that he wasn’t in the mood for her daily dramas.

“Babe, I’m sorry. I didn’t know what went through me.” She cried, coming closer to touch him but he pulled away from her.

He pitied the man that would end up with her, because at this point she was nothing but a daily dose of headache in his life.

“No, you are not, and you are not going to stop until I’m serious, which is why I'm cutting off whatever it is we are doing. Don’t try calling my agency, because it won’t work out anymore.” He said and went for her door only to be grabbed back by her.

“Xavier, please!” Anne begged him like her life depended on him, but it was the truth. She loves this man too much, and anything or anyone that would come to ruin the happiness that she had with him was an enemy.

But she had used her toxic nature to destroy the little attention that he is giving her.

“I will do better, baby please. Don’t leave me.” She cried, hugging him from the back. The young lady couldn’t see her future without him in it. If anyone could see her right now where she is at her worst they will laugh at how pathetic she was acting.

But that’s as a result of what she has passed through, she can’t lose a good man like Xavier.

“Let go, Anne. Stop making this seem more hard than it could be.” He cautioned her, he needed some time to himself.

Time to gather his thoughts.

His emotions!

His life in general!

“I can’t live without you, Xavier please.” She refused to let him go, and before Xavier could turn around to do anything else she went on her knees while tears flooding her eyes.

What the fuck!

“Anne..”Xavier was dumbfounded.

He didn’t know how to control the situation, and it was getting out of hand. They were meant to separate one way or another but she’s acting like she’s about to be killed, when he didn’t love her. They are just mere acquaintances.

“I will do better, baby. Please, i…” Anne cried, she begged for him like a desperate lost child looking for her mom.

But Xavier had no heart.

He turned around and left as if she was carrying a contagious disease.

This is all her fault!

Anne blamed herself!

She shouldn’t have raised her hands on him, Xavier has been looking for an opportunity to separate, and now she had given him one and was left with nothing but a question that not even her had the answer to.

Why wasn't she enough?
