Chapter 708
Chapter 708
"Rock Squad! Circular defense! Energy shields at max power!" Jack's roar exploded through the empty lab, instantly drowning out that creepy, bone-chilling sound.
The well-trained members of the "Rock" Squad didn't hesitate for a second. Their heavy alloy shields slammed into the ground with a loud clang, and yellowish energy shields sprang up instantly, layering over each other to form a solid circular barrier. It protected the core of our team—Sophia, Dane, Lily, Sabrina, and me—in the center.
They stood like unmovable rocks, forcefully building a defensive line in the wide-open space.
"Blade Team! Clear the field! Don't let those things get close!" Ronnie bellowed, his arms transforming into two massive spinning chainsaws made of liquid metal, emitting a terrifying buzz.
Sure, he might act all timid in front of me and Sophia, but when it comes to a real fight, he's got all the guts you'd expect.
He was the first to charge at the former Elite Alliance soldiers creeping out from the shadows, their eyes hollow and lifeless.
"Look at what you've become! Snap out of it!"
"Uri! Disrupt Heart Eater's mental field! Don't let him keep controlling them!" My voice was steady, my eyes locked on Heart Eater, who hovered on the suspended platform.
The Control Spirit Crystal inside me spun at high speed, a pure blue light flowing over my body, forming a thin but tough shield. It held back the chaotic Spiritual Energy that kept crashing over me like a cold, relentless tide.
I could feel it—Heart Eater's power was way beyond the "Mind Whisperer" we'd faced before. His mental waves carried a sticky, malicious intent, trying to worm its way into every crack in our willpower.
"Got it! Spatial Mental Barrier!" Uri's silver eyes shone brightly, her hands moving so fast to form seals that they almost left afterimages.
An invisible spatial ripple spread out from her, not directly clashing with Heart Eater's mental tide but creating a distorted spatial membrane around our strike team.
Heart Eater's invasive Psychic Control hit this membrane and got bogged down like it was stuck in mud. Its penetration slowed drastically, and the controlled puppet soldiers' movements showed clear signs of hesitation and disarray.
"Lily, Sabrina, pin down Heart Eater! Don't let him cast freely!" I gave the order again.
"On it!" Sabrina's voice was colder than I'd ever heard.
Her energy pistol had already switched to sniper mode, the barrel steady as she aimed at the thin figure on the platform. This energy gun was a masterpiece of Elite Alliance tech!
Sabrina's gaze was sharp as a hawk, showing no fear of Heart Eater's "Mind Shepherd" title. A deep blue beam, tighter and faster than before, ripped through the air, heading straight for Heart Eater's head!
At the same time, Lily moved.
Her weapon wasn't an energy gun but a uniquely shaped crossbow, its bolts flickering with ghostly blue electric arcs.
"High-Frequency Magnetic Blast Bolt!" she growled, firing a bolt wrapped in blinding electric light. It caught up and arrived at Heart Eater almost simultaneously with Sabrina's sniper beam!
Looks like Lily hadn't wasted her time with the Elite Alliance—she'd mastered their tech!
Facing this deadly attack, Heart Eater's face, hidden behind a metal mask, showed no emotion. He simply raised his right hand from his pocket, fingers spreading wide.
A dark red energy shield, thick and sticky like real blood, instantly formed in front of him!
Sabrina's blue beam slammed into the shield, causing violent ripples. The dark red light flickered wildly but didn't break!
Lily's magnetic bolt hit next, explosive currents erupting across the shield's surface, electric sparks dancing and screeching sharply. The shield wavered intensely, its color dimming a bit, but it still held strong!
"Nice toys. Don't forget, your Elite Alliance is just a puppet of our New World Alliance! Your tech is nowhere near ours!" Heart Eater's cold voice, grating like metal on metal, rang out with a hint of mockery. His raised hand clenched into a fist.
The puppet soldiers, slowed by Uri's spatial barrier, suddenly flared with an even crazier red glow in their eyes! Like they'd been injected with a rage drug, they ignored the Rock Squad's shield and charged fearlessly!
Their movements were still stiff, but their speed and strength had spiked. Their weapons fired wildly, crimson energy beams pouring down like a storm on the Rock Squad's shield!
Pop, pop, pop! The yellowish shield flickered violently, its light fading fast! A few Rock Squad members grunted, blood trickling from their lips as they bore the immense pressure.
"Sophia! Boost the Life Link! Prioritize Rock Squad!" I shouted.
"Got it!" Sophia clasped her hands to her chest, a green glow rising from her. Invisible threads of life energy solidified, tightly connecting to every Rock Squad member.
It couldn't fully block the impact and damage from the brutal attacks, but it was like injecting a stubborn life force into them, helping them grit their teeth and hold on under the pressure.
"Dane! Find the force field shield's weak point! We have to take the central platform!" My eyes scanned the platform in the middle, covered by a high-strength shield. The equipment and metal crates were so close, yet blocked by this final barrier.
"I'm on it! The interference is strong!" Dane's forehead was sweaty, his hands flying over his portable tactical tablet, trying to analyze the shield's energy frequency and weaknesses.
Just then, from the depths of the lab, that hair-raising sound hit its peak!
Several huge, partially shattered incubation pods exploded with a deafening crash!
Thick liquid, mixed with decayed tissue and culture fluid, gushed out! Along with the sickening sound of grinding bones and slimy squirming, several twisted figures crawled out!
They had humanoid torsos, but their limbs were grotesquely deformed. Some had insect-like jointed legs covered in chitin shells; others had slimy, octopus-like tentacles.
Their heads were even weirder—some had giant compound eyes, others had mouths full of sharp teeth, and some didn't even have clear heads, just bodies covered in sensory organs.
They reeked of rotting chemicals and a raw, insane hunger!
"Test subjects! BOWs (Bio-Organic Weapons)! Failed 'Evolver' prototypes!" Sabrina's voice carried a faint tremble as she recognized the source of these monsters.
These failed prototypes seemed to be activated by Heart Eater's Spiritual Energy or some signal. They let out unintelligible roars, their cloudy eyes or sensory organs instantly locking onto our strike team!
They leaped, crawled, or slithered, surging out from the depths of the incubation pod forest at terrifying speed, joining the assault!
"Damn it!" Ronnie roared, swinging his massive metal chainsaws powered by Spiritual Energy. He sliced a charging puppet soldier in half, metal fragments and flesh flying everywhere!
But right after, a BOW with giant scythe-like forelimbs slammed into his side armor, making a grating screech!
Ronnie stumbled from the impact!
The battle instantly turned into the most brutal, chaotic mess!
In front, fearless, deeply controlled elite puppet soldiers unleashed firepower with their advanced weapons.
On the sides and behind, monstrously varied, incredibly strong bio-prototypes attacked with claws, fangs, and mutated limbs, driven by mad instincts.
Above, on the suspended platform, Heart Eater lurked like a venomous snake, constantly applying terrifying mental pressure. His cold gaze felt almost tangible, always searching for weaknesses and cracks in our strike team's spirit.
