Chapter 211

Chapter 211

When Emily came downstairs, before she could even leave the building, she saw a group of people standing outside, all talking at once about something.

"I don't know if this Light Feather Church is real or fake, but I've been seeing a lot of news online lately. They say the church is amazing—providing jobs for people, giving out free money. So many people online say it's good, so it must be real, right?"

"Why don't we find some time to go check it out? We're just going to look anyway, it's not like it costs money. I won't even bring my phone, and if they ask me to register for anything, I just won't do it. I'd like to see how they can scam me then!"

"Exactly! We're all so old now, if we don't have money, what else could the church possibly scam us out of?"

These people were all retirement age, already collecting their retirement benefits. Usually they had nothing to do, either joining community activities or taking their dogs for walks.

Now this church had suddenly appeared, not only providing free elderly care for retired professionals like them, but also offering jobs to people under seventy.

They could earn money and feel socially valuable at the same time—naturally they were tempted.

Watching this scene, Emily felt this church was as terrifying as a virus, spreading to her surroundings so quickly.

Even these educated women were no exception—they were all interested in this church.

But she had urgent matters to handle right now and didn't have time to chat with these people.

After Emily left, the group of elderly people also headed out, taking a car together to the church.

When Emily arrived at the police station, before she could even enter, she heard Daniel shouting excitedly.

"Did you see? There are one hundred and eighteen children in total here. I heard they were planning to find good buyers to sell these kids to, but because of the economic downturn recently, these children weren't so easy to sell, so they just kept them for now!"

Daniel was so excited he could barely contain himself!

Emily quickly walked to Daniel's side and reached out her hand to him, "Are you sure all one hundred plus children are there?"

"Of course I'm sure. You have no idea how lucky this was. After Alfonso and the others got there, they said they almost couldn't find these kids. The ones kept domestically were the ones they screened out—not so smart, not so good-looking. The ones brought abroad were waiting for foreign buyers."

After Daniel finished speaking, he pointed to the photos on the screen.

Just looking through the phone screen, Emily felt waves of chills running down her back.

She couldn't imagine what these young children had been through.

Smuggling them out of the country was inevitable.

After all, many of these children had been kidnapped by Bronte's gang, so they didn't even have legal identities.

They could only follow the livestock farmers' vehicles, sleeping in trucks used to transport pigs, dogs, cattle, and sheep.

Either way, what these children had experienced was beyond what ordinary people could imagine!

"They went abroad, and with so many children, food and daily expenses must cost a lot every day. Would Bronte and the others really be willing to just support these kids like that?"

Emily still found it hard to believe. Their daily food and drink alone must cost so much money—could Bronte really be that kind-hearted?

Regarding this, after some investigation abroad, Alfonso's feedback was that these kids usually worked in factories overseas, rolling leaves—a type of tobacco mixed with some kind of drug.

This tobacco was only sold abroad and couldn't be brought into the country.

If they used workers from Lumaria, the wages would cost a lot of money, but these children had no legal status and could only work illegally when they got there. Just giving them a meal to eat was enough.

Sometimes, Bronte and Mole's partners abroad would even have these children livestream online. Through tips, they could launder money, and at the same time gain sympathy from people online to make even more money!

Just thinking about it made Emily shudder.

"So bringing these children back now must be very difficult, right?"

Emily stared intently at Daniel.

Over a hundred people—who knew if the criminals holding these children had been caught.

Daniel gently patted her shoulder, "It's not difficult. Alfonso happens to have a former comrade working over there. We'll send the documents over, and let them handle the negotiations. After all, children are no small matter—no matter what, they shouldn't stop our children from coming home!"

What he said made sense, but Emily still felt vaguely worried.

William came down from Jonathan's office, and as soon as he got downstairs, he saw Emily standing there looking troubled.

He cleared his throat, "I've already verified everything. The kids abroad are physically intact. Alfonso said those kids have to work about sixteen hours a day. Those damn criminals wish they could make them work all the time—why would they make them disabled?"

"Not only that, I just saw in the videos Oscar and the others sent over that Terrence asked those kids if they'd ever gone out to make deliveries. A few of the older kids, around ten years old, were even working as delivery people at their factory."

Delilah spoke very tactfully.

But everyone could understand what kind of deliveries she was talking about.

Nothing more than the illegal goods from the factory. However, if they used adults for this, the risk would be high each time and they'd have to pay those delivery people a lot. If they used the kidnapped children, the cost could be considered zero.

These children had very low requirements—just one full meal and they would risk their lives for them!

Emily's eyes turned red. She squatted down, watching these videos over and over again. Many of the children looked quite nice—you could tell their parents must have cherished them like precious treasures.

And they had been lured away by these criminals.

Emily took a sharp breath. She stood up and without hesitation walked quickly toward Bronte's interrogation room.

When Bronte saw Emily enter, she didn't seem surprised at all. She smiled slightly, "Now you know everything you should and shouldn't know. What are you still coming to see me for?"

Emily grabbed Bronte's collar tightly with her hand.

Behind her, there was an uproar.

"Emily, don't get worked up!"

"Yeah, even if this Bronte deserves to die, don't let yourself get in trouble because of her!"
