Chapter 203
Chapter 203
In the pitch-black night where you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, a small figure was running frantically.
Looking at the build, it seemed like a child?
Emily snapped back to her senses. Could it be that the kids outside were being used by their gang, and tonight they came specifically to destroy evidence? Or was there something important inside the orphanage that they needed to risk coming back for in the middle of the night?
But the next second, she dismissed this thought.
That wasn't a child at all—the person's speed was as swift as the wind!
Even Emily and her well-trained team could barely keep up with the person's pace.
Beads of sweat the size of beans rolled down her forehead, "Quick, try to see if we can contact the command center. We must catch up with him!"
"No signal!"
Daniel looked at his phone in frustration.
With such advanced technology, the area around a signal jammer couldn't communicate with the outside world at all.
The phone had become useless.
Suddenly, an agile figure jumped down from the second floor of the building.
Daniel's leaping figure startled Emily.
The next second, a thunderous bang exploded in everyone's ears.
Emily clearly saw William aim at the person's ankle and fire a shot—right on target!
A shrill scream echoed through the empty orphanage, sounding somewhat eerie.
William rushed forward, grabbed the person's arm, and slammed them hard onto the ground!
A smooth and impressive shoulder throw—the man formed a perfect arc in mid-air!
This scene left everyone stunned!
Emily quickly followed, swiftly taking the handcuffs from Daniel's hands and restraining the person's wrists.
"You still want to run?"
She narrowed her eyes, staring intently at the man lying on the ground.
He kept howling, "Let me go... let go..."
"Who are you, and what are you doing at the orphanage in the middle of the night?"
William examined the person in front of him carefully.
The man stammered, looking nervous as he tried to cover his ankle with his hands.
Unfortunately, the handcuffs restricted his movements, leaving him unable to move.
It wasn't until Emily pulled him up from the ground and Delilah shone a flashlight on his face.
This person had a small build, looking just like a child.
But actually, judging from the muscle structure on his face, this was clearly an adult.
"Why did you shoot me? I don't know anything. I just came to the orphanage to find my friends."
He tried to argue in a child-like voice.
However, Emily saw through his identity at a glance, "You're Mole, right? Stop pretending. At your age, still talking like a child—aren't you ashamed?"
Under Emily's questioning, Mole had to swallow back the words that were already on the tip of his tongue.
Mole glared at Emily and continued to argue, "I have no idea what you're talking about!"
"Who are you people, what are you going to do to me! Let me go, I want to go home to see my mom and dad. It hurts!"
Mole was being carried by Daniel like some object, heading toward the car behind them.
Emily was so hot that sweat poured down her body, soaking her clothes.
The next second, as she looked up, she saw William striding toward the orphanage.
She was shocked, "Mole's already been caught, hasn't he?"
"There must be some important evidence still in the orphanage. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth the risk for him to come back again."
William's tone was certain as he continued walking quickly toward the orphanage's hidden room.
Emily jogged to follow him. She glared at William in annoyance, "Why didn't you tell us beforehand about your solo operation tonight?"
"What would I tell you for? I didn't know if I'd be able to catch anyone by coming here tonight."
William answered calmly, glancing at Emily from the corner of his eye.
The two looked at each other.
Emily followed behind him stubbornly, without saying another word.
Before, when they went out on cases, Emily would always discuss the cases with William. The two of them wouldn't be like this now, with such a cold atmosphere.
William seemed to realize that his solo action was somewhat inappropriate.
He turned around and handed the flashlight to Emily, "Too many people are involved in this case. I couldn't be sure that if I told everyone about the operation in advance, whether our cover would be blown. The best approach was to keep it secret."
"Didn't you think that Mole might have accomplices outside? What if you encountered danger here alone? William, I think Jonathan was right—sometimes you're just too arrogant!"
Emily was furious. She felt that by doing this, William didn't consider them as his own people at all.
Otherwise, why would William keep it secret not just from others, but even from her and Daniel?
"This case is different from others—it's too dangerous. When I couldn't predict whether the danger here was within controllable limits, how could I let you come along?"
William sighed. This was the first time he'd heard words of blame from Emily's mouth.
He'd always thought Emily had a laid-back personality and didn't care about anything.
"You're worried about me?"
William took a step forward, gradually closing the distance between him and Emily.
The atmosphere surrounding them felt somewhat strange.
Even Emily couldn't help but feel her heart racing!
They were clearly partners, teammates fighting side by side—so why did she suddenly feel so flustered?
She glanced at William, "Of course I'm worried about you. You're our captain. If something happened to you, how would we explain it to Jonathan? Besides, a case isn't solved by one person's individual ability!"
"Then next time, I'll tell you in advance."
William's tone was casual, mixed with a bit of teasing.
Just moments ago, the two were bickering about his solo operation, the atmosphere cold, but with just a few words, this misunderstanding was resolved.
Emily followed William inside, carrying a military shovel in her hand.
William couldn't help but be curious, "Where did you get that thing?"
"From the station, of course. I grabbed it and stuffed it in my bag when I left."
Her answer was somewhat perfunctory.
But William, with his meticulous mind, saw through Emily at a glance.
Her coming to the orphanage tonight was probably for the same purpose as his!
They'd both thought of the same thing!
Which was to break through this wall!
"Is this some kind of iron fortress? The military shovel doesn't even chip the wall when I dig!"
After digging for a long time, the wall remained solid as ever. Emily was exhausted and threw the military shovel on the ground in frustration.
