Chapter 201

Chapter 201

Emily shook her head, a hint of helplessness in her eyes.

Honestly, she still couldn't figure out what William was thinking or what he was trying to do. He hadn't even given her a heads-up.

This left Emily feeling very passive, and she didn't know how to work with William.

William strode quickly toward the stairwell not far away. He didn't look back, as if he hadn't heard Emily and Daniel's discussion at all.

Daniel pointed at William and lowered his voice, "What's wrong with him?"

"I don't know either. He's been in a bad mood all day, and nobody even provoked him."

Emily complained in a low voice.

The two of them hurried into the police station. Daniel said he vaguely remembered there was a file that had records of factories that custom-made special doors and windows.

"But given that thickness, only M&Company can achieve it right now."

Daniel pointed to a line of tiny text on the thick stack of documents.

For Emily, there were only three factories currently capable of precision-making this bulletproof material door. Whichever one it was, they just needed to check directly.

"Why do we have to confirm which factory before taking action? We just need to have someone check the orders from that time, and won't the truth come out?"

Emily said in a relaxed tone, her eyes showing some confusion as she looked at Daniel.

Why make such a simple matter so complicated?

This approach was completely inefficient. If they wanted to investigate, gather evidence, and find more proof of the gang's crimes, it would be even harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

Daniel's fingers tapped lightly on the desk. After hesitating for a while, he lowered his voice to explain, "Because their factory keeps all customer information confidential. It's not something we can get approved just by applying. It's already quite difficult to verify orders from one factory, let alone so many."

He let out a helpless sigh.

Hearing Daniel's explanation, Emily's doubts were finally cleared up.

She shrugged helplessly as well, "Then we can only take the door down first and analyze the material. William mentioned to me earlier that although these factories all make precision steel bulletproof materials, the size and thickness have strict requirements and controls, so..."

"Right, theoretically that's correct. But there's something else."

Daniel looked up toward the doorway.

An elderly white-haired woman stood at the entrance of the police station. She walked unsteadily and needed someone to support her.

Emily looked closely and realized the old woman was blind. She was groping around, murmuring, "Stanley is really amazing. He went to the city to open a convenience store, and they say business is getting better and better. His wife is even pregnant, and I'll soon be able to hold my great-grandchild!"

Although the old woman was blind, her clothes were clean and neat, showing she was a meticulous person.

Hearing her words, Emily and several colleagues behind the old woman exchanged glances.

Clearly, when they brought Celestia Ortiz here, they hadn't told her the truth about Stanley's crimes.

This was understandable, though. After all, Celestia was old and might not be able to handle such a devastating blow.

"Is this a hotel? Or... where is Stanley?"

Celestia had difficulty walking, her cane tapping back and forth on the ground.

Her earnest inquiry made Emily's heart tremble.

Emily stepped forward and took Celestia's arm, "Yes, Stanley is a big boss now. He's about to go abroad, so he specially asked us to bring you here to see him."

"Going abroad? Is it safe overseas? I've been saying since Stanley was little that he'd be capable when he grew up. I knew my grandson wouldn't be worse than anyone else."

As Celestia spoke, Emily helped her into the interrogation room.

Since Celestia was old and had trouble with her legs, Emily specially had someone bring a soft blanket to spread on the chair.

Although Celestia's eyes didn't work well, her mind was very clear.

Her hands felt around, and she murmured, "This chair is real leather. Your fancy hotel really is different."

The moment Stanley saw Celestia come in, he froze for a long time, unable to snap out of it.

He looked at Emily with shock and surprise, stammering for a while as if wanting to say something, but the words that had reached his lips were swallowed back down.

Because Celestia was sitting right there, one wrong word could arouse her suspicion.

"Stanley, your employees say you're about to go abroad. Is that true? You've really made something of yourself!"

Celestia's face beamed with a proud smile, constantly sighing, "When you were little, we were poor. Even sending you to school was difficult. You always envied other families with money, envied them living good lives. What did I say back then? I said you clearly had ability and talent. See, I was right!"

Stanley sat silently in his chair, tears streaming uncontrollably down his face.

After hesitating for a while, he finally answered in a hoarse voice, "Yes, Grandma, I am going abroad. After I leave, you must take good care of yourself. I might not be able to come back for a long time."

"What, your business trip will take that long? What are you going abroad for, business? What about your wife? She's about to give birth."

Celestia seemed a bit anxious, tapping her cane on the ground, "Your wife is young and married you. You can't mess around out there. Besides, a woman carrying a baby for ten months is most vulnerable when giving birth. You can't just run off like that!"

"No, Grandma, I'm just going to handle some things. The company has new business to develop abroad. I have no choice. If I miss this opportunity, who knows when the next one will come."

Stanley's answer seemed somewhat perfunctory. His voice caught, and tears were already streaming down his face.

He was afraid to say more, worried he'd give something away.

He stared at Emily and said quietly, "Send my grandma back. Aren't we about to leave soon anyway?"

"Okay."

Emily stood up and opened the interrogation room door.

Before leaving, Celestia didn't forget to give Stanley some advice, "Even if you go abroad, you can't forget your roots. You must know what you can and can't do. You're about to be a father. You can't be as reckless as before, understand?"
