Gerard Point of View

Part of me wondered if I had fainted from a drunken state or perhaps he was simply dreaming. It was something that happened to me very often, so I had to raise my head to check that it was real and that Silvia was there with me. I also used to reach out and touch her just to feel like she was right next to me. Every time she did, she would turn and look at me with her beautiful sparkling blue eyes and her wide, sincere smile. When that happened, all my worries dissipated and I felt like life was perfect.

That didn't mean there wasn't a part of me that was still terrified by what we were undertaking. That Silvia managed to bring me to my knees and give her my heart was terrifying. I had no choice but to do it though because the alternative, which was trying to live without her, would destroy me.

We were in my car driving when I reached out to her, took her hand and kissed it.

"I want to take you to my father's house and tell him that we are getting married. "She smiled at me, but I could see her nervousness in her eyes". You're going to love it. He will be very happy because you have taught me to love again.

"I have to tell Katy too. "She turned and looked out the window, making me worry.

"She's not going to like this news, is she? " I asked.

She looked at me and smiled, but it wasn't her usual smile. The one that transmitted intensity.

"She wants me to be happy and for me to paint again, and now I am both. So, of course, she'll be fine with you."

I drove for a while in silence while she tried to gather my thoughts.

"She threatened me. She told me not to think about hurting you again. "Silvia looked at me with shock reflected on her face.

"What ? When?"

"Yesterday, when I got to work, we had a family meeting"I took a deep breath because I felt like I had to tell her everything. "Before that, Ronny was at my house and told me that he had to fix all this business about your career and that he would tell me. keep away from you."

Her blue eyes narrowed and became dangerous. I could see the anger in them, and in a strange way, I was glad.

"They have no right to tell me what to do, and neither do you.

I shrugged.

"Based on my history, and how I have treated you, I think they have a right to be worried about you.

"You can worry all you want, but you better not interfere in my life.

I was encouraged to hear the confidence her had in me, but worried about the impact that might have on the reaction with Katy and Ronny. Would they be able to change her mind?

"You have to stop the car," she suddenly demanded.

"What? "I turned my head to look at her.

"You have to stop the car. Anywhere. You just have to stop.

There was a small shopping center on the right, so I turned on my turn signal and pulled into it, finding an available parking space. I turned off the engine and turned to look at her.

"Are you OK? " I asked.

She raised her hands and placed them on my cheeks.

"I have you, Gerard Hush. I understand you. I can see in your heart. " She lowered one of her hands and placed it on my chest“The world, and even your brothers, see a man, but I see you, and the reason I crotch you so well is because you let me in This time, when she smiled, she did it in that way that I like so much. "And I'm very happy that you did it."

"Aren't you worried that our way of communicating could ruin things for us?

She shook her head confidently.

"No. Our discussions are fun, don't you think? It's a kind of foreplay."

I slid my hand around her neck and pulled her the last few inches between us so I could kiss her sweet lips. If she weren't sitting in the middle of a shopping center parking lot, she could have pushed her seat back and let him know how excited she was by her words. It was terrifying knowing that she could see through my soul and at the same time extremely reassuring. When I pulled away from her, she still had that sweet smile on her lips.

"Let's go see your father.

I texted everyone that I wanted to meet them at Dad's house, but I didn't tell them why. He was still pretty sure that Ronny and Katy weren't going to be too happy about me marrying Silvia, but with Silvia by my side, I'd get over it.

I took Silvia to run some errands so that we could get to my father's house last. I wanted to make sure I told everyone at the same time and I didn't want to be sitting around waiting and having my dad or my brothers insist that he explain why they were there.

When we arrived, my father's housekeeper opened the door and invited us in.

"Everyone is on the back terrace. There's lemonade and cookies your grandmother bought," she said.

I took Silvia's hand and guided her through the living room towards the back of the house.

"Oh my God. This place is huge. And look the windows... the ocean. This place is incredible,” said Silvia.

"Do you want a place like this? Because I'll get you one. What you want. "I would buy her the moon if she asked me.

She stopped me before we reached the doors to access the outside and she pulled me to stop.

"I don't need any of this, Gerard. I only need you."

"But something like that would be nice, right? "The contrast between Silvia and my ex was so stark that she made me feel like an idiot for not noticing it before. Not only did my ex accept everything she offered, she demanded more. The idea that all Silvia wanted was me, not my money, not my name, but me, made me feel loved in a way she had never felt before.

She gave me a shy smile.

"Well, if you wanted to live in a place like that, I wouldn't complain.

I leaned forward and kissed him on the forehead.

"Are you ready?"

She nodded, looking the same as I did: vertigo and nausea all at once. She put her arm through mine as we walked out of the house to the terrace.

My grandmother was sitting next to my father at the table talking about something. Katy was sitting in a chair with Ronny behind her, one hand on her shoulder and the other sipping a beer. Noah was lying on a deck chair. He had his eyes closed with his hands clasped on his belly and his face turned towards the sun, dressed in a T-shirt and jeans, and his boots, so it was evident that he had not been working. Carter was sitting at the table between my grandmother and Katy, talking to Ronny.

When Silvia and I walked out onto the terrace, all eyes turned towards us. Immediately, Ronny's gaze shifted to where Silvia's arm was linked with mine.

Silvia leaned towards me and whispered:

"No matter what happens, I love you. "I caressed the hand that was on my arm.

"There it is," my father said, turning in his chair to see us better. Oh, and he has brought Silvia with him.

“It better be good news,” I could hear my grandmother murmur.

My gaze stayed on Ronny and Katy because I knew they were the ones who would have to bless this union. Silvia leaned towards me again as we headed towards them.

"You should do it as a band-aid. You just have to start it. Say it quickly.

I looked at her, the amusement beginning to take away some of my fear.

"You like it fast, don't you, princess?"

Her cheeks flushed.

Noé got up from his chair and looked at us.

"Well, what is so important that has made me drag myself here?

We had finally arrived at the table. As Silvia had advised me, the words came out of my mouth on their own.

"Silvia and I are getting married.

I felt a knot in my stomach. I looked at Silvia, she squeezed my arm and looked at me with a smile. Then, she turned to the group and extended her left hand with the lavender diamond I had purchased for her yesterday on one of my many errands in my plan to win her back. The purchase had seemed so natural and automatic to me that I knew it had to be the right decision.

"Congratulations," my father said, extending his hand to me. I took his hand and leaned down to give him a hug.

"Thanks Dad."

"Come here, Silvia, let me see that more closely," my father asked her.

I was very glad that my father was the kind of man he was; loving, kind, generous. She expected him to make up for any negativity or animosity he might receive from others.

"That's all?" Noah asked.

"Yeah. I wanted to tell you all at once."

Noé got up from his lounge chair and approached us. I moved away from where Silvia had been showing the ring to my father. Noah held out his hand.

"Let me be the first to hug the bride."

"But don't hold her too long," I warned him.

"I really feel like I've missed something," Carter said.

"It's because you spend too much time traveling, brother," Noé told him. “She hasn't crotched Jess yet,” he told me.

"Can we go talk for a minute, Silvia? " Katy asked, getting up from her chair.

Silvia put her arm through mine again and snuggled close to her.

"No. You can tell me how happy you are for me and Gerard right here."

"This is a bit sudden, isn't it? " Ronny asked.

"I thought they had been together for a while," Noé pointed out, looking from one to the other confused, as if he didn't understand why Ronny and Katy had a problem with us. I guess when Noé called Ronny after my drunkenness the other night, Ronny didn't tell him that he was going to warn me to stay away from her.

"Considering everything that's happened between you two, after the way you've treated her, Gerard, it seems a little quick for you to get married," Ronny said. I realize again that Ronny's protective attitude towards Silvia was like that of an older brother or, perhaps even, that of a father. Still, as Silvia had said, it was none of his business.

Before she could say anything, Grandma let out a loud “ha.”

"You're one of those who make value judgments about getting married or hurting the woman you love, Ronny Hush. Ronny's jaw clenched."

"It's not the same, grandmother."
