13: Insult
I left work early today, to go to the spa. My skin has improved a bit. There are dark spots, marks and scars left but I haven't broken out again, although there are still a few pimples but it's not that bad.
I went home at night because I also have an appointment with the OB and my dentist.
When I got home I was surprised to see several cars parked outside the house.
Is Jacob here?
"Manang, where is Jacob?" I found it in the kitchen. She cooks food with the person Jacob hires to clean the house once a week.
"He's outside, he's with his friends, they're drinking."
I thought many times whether I should go to him or not. I want to see him, but when I remember the several times we talked that ended in pain, I hesitated.
I went up to my room to rest. I opened the window because it was windy here at night, because Jacob and his friends were stationed just opposite. I listened to loud music until here. I was about to close it again to turn on the air conditioner when I noticed some girls who had just arrived.
They are sexy. They wear crop tops and short shorts and skirts. I can't help but feel insecurities again. As for the others, they secretly cheat on their husbands, while he is face-to-face. Why is he doing this?
I did not leave my position. I know that the next scenes will hurt me but my feet won't step back.
The women sat next to the men. Some of them sit on the man's lap. That of Jacob, just sat next to him but it was like a snake when it slithered.
I just cried out of anger. Once he came home, he would do this again. Is he trying to hurt me?
Some of Jacob's friends looked up. When they saw me they pointed me to Jacob, but my husband didn't even move. I just went inside and answered Cora's call.
"I've been calling you for a while..."
"I just arrived, why?"
"Mom and I argued, can I sleep there first?"
"Huh?"
I don't want him to see what my husband is doing. Maybe later what else will happen. I also don't want it to get to Daddy, because I wonder how he will feel. I don't want my father to get hurt or worry.
I'll just talk to Jacob tomorrow. I want us to understand each other even if I get hurt again by what he might say.
"I'm coming."
"Come on, Cora-"
He has already turned off the call.
I waited for my friend in the living room, so I could pull him into my room immediately when he arrived.
He smiled at me when he came. He also had some paper bags with him.
"For you!"
"Wow! Thank you! You're getting rich now."
"Of course!"
We went up to my room. He took off his shoes and put the bags he was carrying to the side.
"It's been a long time since you've been silent," I said. I missed my friend.
"I'm sorry..."
He took out his cell phone. He was silent and for a while he giggled.
"Who's that?"
He looked at me. Smiling but hesitant.
"Why? Are you the man you want?"
"I have something to say."
I sided with him.
"Again?"
"I was abroad for one week. I was c-in-contacted by one of the people I met at the bar who was a rich guy."
"Really?"
"What's his name? Do I know him?"
He just smiled so I jokingly elbowed him.
"Go on, say it..."
He showed me his cellphone.
"Cora, he's a married man!"
"I know... But-"
"Cora..."
"Don't judge me. I'm lonely, that's why when he invited me, I went with him."
I just couldn't believe he could do it. I pinched my nose bridge and tried to think straight.
Is this what his mother is saying? I feel bad about it. You can see the joy on his face, how long will he be happy?
And in exchange for his happiness is the destruction of a family. His pleasure is the suffering of a householder. I know the man's wife. I met him when I was in high school. She's five years younger than my dad. And I can't believe that a man can do this.
"Uy, friend..."
"I don't know what to say, Cora... Please, don't meet the man again. What if his wife will find out. Or if someone else sees you and it appears in the media? Your life will be ruined."
"It's better for you to think ahead. That won't happen, we'll be careful, eh."
"I don't know, Cora... Do you need money? I'll give it to you. Do you want new shoes, a new phone, a new car, clothes or bags?"
He laughed. "I shouldn't have told you."
Tiningnan ko siya. "I'm your friend, you can't expect me to support you on this because we both know that this is wrong..."
"It's up to you, Precious. I'm tired. But I'll think about your offer." He laughed.
"By the way, I'll give you back the three million I borrowed from you. Then the seven million, huh, I'll save first."
I frowned at him. "If that money only came from that man, don't do it, Cora. Just use it and then don't meet him again."
"It's not from him. I won the su- bet."
"Bet where?"
"It just is..."
"What are you doing, huh?" He laughed. "Nothing. Just enjoying life. Your money is in my bag."
He got up and took out some bundles of money from his bag.
"Here..." I didn't move. I just looked at him.
"Why are you like that?" he asked, annoyed but laughed it off. She looks so happy.
"Nothing. I don't like what you're doing. Do you want to manage one of my branches?"
"Where? In the province? I don't want it... Besides, Mom won't allow me to work far away. You're just keeping me away from my boyfriend."
"Boyfriend? That man has a wife, Cora."
"Let's not argue, please. That's why I came here because I was stressed with Mom, eh."
I left him for a while to take a shower and when I came out I was surprised to see him looking at the window.
"You just let your husband do that to you? Right here in your house?"
"Cora!" He quickly left the room. I pulled him but he was too strong and managed to push me.
"Cora!"
He immediately went down the stairs. I chased him to the back but he was more agile than me.
"You!" He pulled the hair of the woman with Jacob.
"You flirty woman! You are no longer ashamed of the husband of the man you are flirting with!"
He tweaked it. He wasn't satisfied when the woman was lying down because he still rode her and slapped her. The other man we're too stunned. Jacob was stunned for a moment before he moved to help me wean Cora.
"What, you're still on the side of this flirtatious woman who flirts with your husband?"
"Come on, Cora. Just please."
I'm crying The emotions I feel right now are mixed. I wanted to speak but I chose to keep everything to myself. Jacob has also been drinking, we will just fight and maybe it will all lead to something else.
Cora and I are in the room. It's still seething with anger while I'm crying here in the corner. Why am I weak? How I wish I had the same Cora's personality.
When he fell asleep, I went downstairs to check if Jacob had finished drinking. The women had already left but they continued to drink.
I found him at the bar counter, holding a glass but empty of wine.
"Can we talk?"
He didn't answer. I stood by his side.
"I don't know why you married me. I was so happy then that I couldn't think straight anymore. Jacob, I've always liked you since I was still a kid. I've dreamed of you for a long time so maybe you asked me to marry you I didn't think about everything. And you've been nice to me before our wedding?"
He sighed. Remained facing the wines on the shelf. It's like I'm talking to the wind. Perp, you can still feel the air, but he... I was surprised when I felt my eyes water but they still fell completely.
"Why did you marry me? Did your parents force you?"
I often heard it when I was in high school when our parents talked, they always said that they wanted me to be a daughter-in-law. I thought it was just a joke at the time, because it seems to be normal sometimes in the conversation of adults.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"We should talk about this, so-"
"For year?"
"If you hate me that much, I hope you don't-"
"Shut up!"
"Jacob, you married me, at least be my wife..."
He laughed. Laugh I know what that means.
How can he be my wife if he hates me, right?
"At least don't bring your girls here..."
"I don't have a girl, Precious. You're the only one who thinks that."
"Your girl earlier, almost-"
"That's not my girl... My friend's girlfriend just brought them along."
"Very-"
"I said I don't want to talk."
"If only you weren't like that..." He looked at me. He shook his head and simply turned away from me.
