Chapter 35: Lied To Me

Chapter 35: Lied To Me
Chapter 35: You Lied To Me

Roy

Brianna's relief, Callan's relief. He literally let out a rush of trapped air from his lungs and fisted his hair with holy shít expression. He is off the hook, that is what he is thinking but when he turned to Brianna she still turned slightly away from him. Angelo gaped at the doctor's for a good thirty seconds and Hannah's reaction was just to start crying. She released my hand to cover her face and the doctor came to hand her tissues. The awkwardness lingered along with a mix of many other reactions, it was struggling being in here.

“Are you okay?” I whispered to Hannah.

Angelo finally snapped out of it and came directly for Hannah next. He knelt down in front of her and placed his hand on her knee.

“Hey, Hannah. Let's talk for minutes.” He spoke low but wanted her attention.

I could tell Gelo was shaken by the news but he is actually a pretty decent dude for the most part and I mean any mafia guy isn't an angel. He is as taped in the head as the rest of us but he is also a good time guy who keeps his angry cousin in check, kind of, not really.

“I will help you with the child and everything, if it will be fine. Just let me wrap my head around it for a minute.” He said to her, he didn't look contemplative.

“I will give you guys some privacy.” I looked at Angelo, telling him to talk to her.

He is the father, there is a conversation that needs to be had here, with that, I stepped out into the hall. Two seconds later, Brianna and Callan stepped out too. Oh, fuck. Callan glared at me, but his main focus was getting Brianna to talk to him. For whatever reason, she didn't leave altogether, so they were only a few steps down in the same hall as I am. I could hear everything, though I wasn't sure I had wanted to listen but I listened.

“Brianna, why are you pissed at me? It is not my child.” Callan huffed.

“Because you lied and told me she was pregnant, not that she was pregnant but was going to terminate it. You still thought that was your child at the time, you just lied about everything.” She whisper-yelled to him. He huffed and slapped his hands at his sides.

“What have been through this for the past sex months, Brianna? We have been working on ourselves, right? This is what your therapist would call back sliding.”

“You don't even know what that means.” She sucked her teeth and I felt like she rolled her eyes at him.

“Yes, I do, in the context I do. You and I sorted through this problem in the past and worked through it, to revisit it after we have made our peace with it is backsliding. Digging up what we already put to rest.” Callan said in some mumbo jumbo.

If it is accurate, I had no idea. I wasn't looking at them, I was looking in the complete opposite direction but still, I could hear them so well for some reason.

“She would also tell me that my feelings are valid.” Brianna said but her voice had less spite and more of a lingering sadness to it. I wish I could grab that girl away from that animal and take her away with me.

“You want honesty? I was terrified back then that you were going to leave me, you know this and we have talked about it. Because hanja wanted to terminate it, so I told you she wasn't having my child because she wasn't.” He tried speaking lower to be sure I couldn't hear but I could. This is like a wind tunnel, I hear everything from the other end. Weird.

“And yet that is playing on words and not telling the whole truth but I knew if you even thought about her having my child inside her, even just long enough for her to terminate it that you would remain disgusted with me. That you wouldn't forgive me and this would be over before it even started.” Callan continued. I heard Brianna try to say something but he stopped her as he continued.

“Remember when I was going to tell you more about the situation and you told me you don't want to know? You asked me not to tell you anything else.” He reminded her, whether that was true or not. But by her long silence, I guess he was telling the truth.

“Yes, I guess I did but that doesn't change the fact that this just stirred something up in me today and I..I just need space. I need to take a breath.” She huffed and it sounded like she was moving away.

“Sweetheart,” I heard Callan huffed and followed after her. The silence followed.

Angelo and Hannah decided to walk in private somewhere outside of the doctor's office where it is less awkward. That let me off the hook, thank goodness. This was all so awkward and honestly overwhelming. I let Hannah take my car since Angelo drove with Callan and he no longer seemed to be here. I could use a walk if I am being honest. I just started along the sidewalk without really knowing where I was going, I just started walking while I digested the news. So Hannah is pregnant with Angelo Harold's baby and she is due within the next few weeks. Hannah had confided to me that she was afraid to give birth, and to have to take care of a living breathing child totally under her care. She no longer had her own apartment here and was looking for a new place since she couldn't stand the animosity between herself, her father and her brother.

Maybe now, she doesn't have to answer all those questions herself. Maybe Angelo can help her out and I will help if she needs me to but it really isn't my place at all. I walked until I spotted a coffee shop and then I decided caffeine sounded like a good idea. When I walked in, it was like a starbucks but not a name brand. Still they had sleek stainless steel appliances and fancy coffee makers. Their menu was on the board above the counter. I ordered a pretty plain coffee and when I turned to grab it at the pick up end of the counter, I paused.

I had suddenly caught eyes with a pair of beautiful ones. Brianna, she is alone and I wasn't sure if she would scowl, cringe or hide from me but I was pleasantly surprised when she just gave a small smile.
