POV – Kallen
After Kai-Lea fell asleep in my arms, Stuart and I talked about the rotation of who between Wade, Tobias, and Reggie, would be with her when we couldn’t be. Or just simply weren’t. Reggie took first shift as he said it would help take his mind off missing Sherlock until he could come join. Sherlock moved to the pack just before the last attack, which helped calm things down so much with Reggie. And turns out is somehow a better fighter than Reggie. Which only makes him work harder.
“She really doesn’t like travelling even now, does she?” Wade asked knowing that Kai-Lea still struggled on long trips. Especially ones she didn’t even want to go on. While meeting the Lycan Royals would be something she is interested in doing it for her father is not.
“No. But our current concern is her relationship with her father. The two of them can’t keep going at it like they do. It isn’t healthy and is only going to widen the distance between them. Which is already nineteen and half years old.” Stuart told them, moving to closer to her as she was starting to shiver from being cold. For a wolf, with a Lycan and third mysterious soul, she sure can’t hold her own body heat.
“Why is angry at him anyways?”
“Because he is cryptic. And you know Kai-Lea, cryptic is just not her favorite thing. She always thought that the Taylors were bring cryptic when they’d be nice or let her eat and other out of the ordinary things they did; as they’d always have a hidden motive.” I answered holding her tighter to help her get warm.
“You and Stuart are royal. She is a royal by birth. Do you think that her Lycan mates are going to be royal, too?” Tobias asked curious about myself, I had hope. As Stuart and I knew she was having issues with connecting to her Lycan with their mates.
“I wouldn’t honestly know. But I’d think so with Kai-Lea being who and what she is. Only another ranked set of twins would be able to or even strong enough to keep up with her. Not just in the bedroom. Kai-Lea has stamina like I’ve never knew could exist.” I admitted.
“Dude, no bedroom talk. She’s liable to wake up and kick your ass for it.” Wade said running verbally to her sleeping defense. He has designated himself her older brother. Which means you mess with her; you have to deal with him. Which only adds to her happiness and in turn ours.
“Alphas, we have a group blocking our path up a head. And according to our backdrop group there is something going on behind us too.” Warrior Bennett informed us rolling down the partition.
“Thank you. Be careful.” Stuart and I ordered calmly.
“Kai-Lea. You need to wake up. We have an issue.” Stuart said as I rubbed my arms on her arms. She grumbled but started to wake.
“You can stop up a head.” Stuart told Warrior Bennett. Kai-Lea was fully awake at this point and angry. As she must have sensed something cause she was channeling both her wolf and lycan.
“What is reasoning for stopping us?” Stuart and I asked together, with Kai-Lea standing between us, using our full authority as Alpha Kings.
“We weren’t trying to stop you. We are under orders to make sure that you and that gem arrive at the palace intact and safe,” the warrior stepped forward to explain.
“Then I guess we should get back on the road. It’s my understanding that it is another three hours from now before we even come close to the palace grounds,” Kai-Lea stated, stepping forward herself.
“Yes, you are correct, Your Majesty,” he replied. She turned, heading back to the limo, and Stuart and I followed closely, keeping a watchful eye on those around us until she was safely inside. Once we were all loaded back into our respective vehicles, we continued our drive.
“That wasn’t weird at all,” Tobias remarked, causing Kai-Lea to shake her head at his comment.
“It was and it wasn’t,” she replied, still channeling her wolf and lycan at the same time. “Asena, is something wrong?” I asked, trying to calm them down a bit. While Stuart and I loved looking into her eyes when they were like this, we weren’t thrilled about the cause.
“Just being cautious,” Kai-Lea, her wolf, and lycan all responded in unison, which startled Reggie and Tobias since neither had ever seen her do that before. Wade had somehow ended up on the receiving end of it a few times. We rode the rest of the trip in silence, with Kai-Lea unable to find calm. All three felt that something wasn’t quite right about handing over the gem to the Royal Lycans.
Kai-Lea huffed as she prepared to get out of the limo again, rolling her eyes at the idea of wearing what she’d already called “a stupid fancy dress.” But she had to admit—grudgingly—this one was different. The red and orange dress hugged her torso tightly, the silk feeling strange yet kind of nice as it flared into a skirt with a dramatic thigh-high split on her left leg. The long sleeves covered her arms, giving her a weird mix of confidence and discomfort. The whole thing moved with her in a way that almost made her forget why she hated it in the first place. Granted, it was the only one of the forty-four she had brought with her that she felt that way about. Thankfully, she also brought some of her “normal” clothes so that during downtime, she could relax and feel at ease.
