Chapter 66 Reaper 43
Chapter 66 Reaper 43
“You okay?” Reaper clutched Liv to his chest, hiding her face against his shoulder as he made a move to walk towards the house. Around them wolves were shifting, Roman’s pack rushing forward to collect their own young.
“Don’t look, princess.” He used his big hand to hide her eyes as he stepped over the blood splattered corpse of a wolf. “Keep your eyes closed.”
Bethany rushed to follow him. She had been so enthralled by the gruesome spectacle it was hard to move. “Come on Imogen.” She reached for the cool hand of his sister, shocked when the younger woman threw it off. Her eyes were impossibly wide.
“Wha…”
Reaper stopped. His face was murderous. “Move Imogen, now!” He barked the order like the Alpha he was, and Bethany saw her flinch. “No, I…”
“Now Imogen, he needs to be with his pack right now.” Bethany had no idea what was going on, but then that was nothing new. She watched as Imogen glanced at Byron’s wolf, laying forlornly at the body of his dead father. Then she followed them into the house.
“Everyone okay? Roman was there, shirtless, his arms wrapped around Rory who was clutching their newborn son to her chest.
“Yes, are you?” Bethany strode forward and the two women met in the middle of the floor. Arms around each other.
“Is it over?” Rory was openly sobbing. “I am so fed up of being attacked at every family gathering.”
“It's over, Byron ripped his fathers throat out.” Bethany knew Reaper meant it to be soothing, but Rory just sobbed harder. Bethany made a mental note to discuss with him about thinking before he spoke.
“He’s Alpha now, they won’t attack us anymore.” Roman’s voice was softer. “Why don’t you ladies go upstairs, let us cleanup.”
Reaper looked torn. His gaze flickering to his sister. “Bethany, I need to get Imogen back to mum and dad, will you…”
She kissed him squarely on the mouth. “Go, we will be fine here.” She kissed him again. “But hurry back, okay?”
“Care to tell me what the hell just happened?” Reaper's voice was level, but his kid sister barely looked up from her lap. They had driven away in silence.
“Imogen?”
The silence was grating on him. Soon they would be in front of their parents' hotel, and they wouldn’t be able to talk freely.
“How am I meant to know, I walk round the house expecting a party and walk straight into a pack war!” She threw up her hands, her voice rising.
“That’s not what I meant, and you know it!” Reaper's voice was rising too. “What happened between you and Byron, and don’t look at me like that. I saw the way you looked at each other.”
“Is that his name?” Imogen’s voice was quiet, barely a whisper now.
“You two have never met before?”
“Nope… Do you think he’s okay?”
Reaper groaned. “Baby sister you sure do like making an entrance, don’t you?” Then his voice sobered. “He’s fine, don’t worry, he’s tougher than he looks.” And dead, he added silently. If he hurts you.
“I shouldn’t have run off” Imogen’s voice trailed off. “I should have stayed.”
“He’s your mate?” Reaper already knew what he saw. Byron wouldn’t have been his first choice for his baby sister, that was sure. “You sure?” He glanced at her nodding face.
“I’m sure, but I don’t want him to think I’ve run off.”
“I'll tell him where you are,” Reaper chuckled. “Me mated to a human, and you mated to a wolf.” His chuckled grew louder filling the car. “Mum and Dad are going to go nuts.”
He pulled the car up, shutting off the engine. “Look Imogen…”
“Don’t okay, just don’t. I can’t help who my Siren chooses.” She straightened her dark hair. “Same as you couldn’t.”
“You can’t help what?” Eric stood there, right outside the door. Arms crossed. A stony look on his handsome face.
“You found your mate?” He swung open the door. “That’s wonderful news sweetheart.”
Reaper's laughter was loud as he walked round the car. “Sure is.”
“What?” For a second their father looked confused. “I’m confused.”
“You are going to be thrilled dad!” Reaper clapped him on the back. “Your little princess’s fated mate just happens to be A WOLF!”
