Chapter 60 Reaper 37
Chapter 60 Reaper 37
“You smell,” Rory came and hugged her Monday morning as best she could. She seemed to have doubled in size since Bethany had last seen her. Reaper stalked past them, reluctantly dropping Bethany’s hand with a small laugh as he headed towards his office, and the mountain of paperwork that would be waiting for him.
He had told her that she didn’t need to come into work. That he could look after both of them, and she knew he meant it. But she was an independent woman, and she needed her own money. Not for running, those days were long past. Her life was with him. Just because it's what she was used to. Plus, the thought of not being able to at least see him in the hours he was in the office, would be torture. “Thanks Rory,” she hugged her back. Rory had quickly become a friend.
“No, no silly,” Rory was smiling widely but there were lines on her face, a pinching of her eyebrows as she straightened. “I mean you smell funny.”
“Again, I say thanks.” Bethany grinned at her.
“She smells of Reaper’s…” Requiem stopped short, his nose flaring. “She smells of Reaper.” His eyes lit on the plaster just visible under her blouse and a smile played on his lips.
“Oh gross, that is not what I meant!” Rory had a moment of looking disgusted.
“He marked her lover,” Roman came strolling out of his office, and clapped Reaper firmly on his back, bringing him into the kind of hug that men, especially macho men, reserved for each other. “Well done brother.”
Requiem joined them and there was more back slapping whilst the two women watched on in amusement.
“All official then.” Rory was smiling at the dumbfounded look on Bethany’s face.
“Why are they all slapping each other on the back like he just ran a marathon?” She asked in a stage whisper, “It was me who did all the work, I was on top.”
Requiem laughed so hard he snorted.
“Now that I would pay to see.” Rory was giggling, which turned into a full-blown laugh at Roman’s furious look. “No, you wouldn’t.”
“Woman of mine,” Reaper growled at the same time. “Enough of that talk in front of the men. I have an image to uphold.”
“Don’t you worry stud; your image isn’t under threat.” She nestled into his side. “He left me adequately satisfied” She said with a perfectly straight face.
“Perfectly adequate.” Even Roman was laughing now. And Bethany felt like she belonged for the first time in years. These people were friends, more than friends. They were her new family.
“Woman!” Reaper bellowed. “Excuse us for a few minutes, will you?” Before Bethany knew what was happening, she was over his shoulder. She squealed. What was it with him and tossing her around like a sack of potatoes. Not that she minded. It was just another show of how gorgeously Alpha he was.
Her strong Alpha Siren. She felt herself dampen at the feel of his hands on her legs. They had been in the office only minutes, and she already wanted to get freaky on his desk. She giggled. Maybe coming into work with him every day wasn’t the best idea after all. How were they meant to get any work done?
“None of that you two.” She felt strong hands on her waist and before she knew it her feet were back on the floor. “Stop growling at me Reaper.” Requiem stepped back. “We have work to do, and none of us is going to do anything if you two are going at it like bunnies in your office every five minutes.”
Bethany pouted. When did she become so sex crazed? Oh yeah, when Reaper stepped back into her life.
“And you can stop pouting as well. This is a place of business.” Requiem’s face was grumpy and Bethany noticed for the first time how tired he looked.
“Hell, Roman and Rory have been…” Reaper started to complain, and Bethany laid a hand on his arm, giving her head a slight shake. Something was up. She could tell. How were men so blind? Especially with someone they thought of as a brother.
Requiem was hurting.
“Exactly, I can’t deal with all of you shagging in the office. So, I’m putting a stop to it.” His bearded face broke into a smile but it did nothing to the sadness in his eyes. “So, from now on, this office is a no sex zone”
“Unless you bring a woman here?” Roman countered.
“Unless I bring a woman here.” Requiem nodded happily, and the tension slipped from the room. “Now if all of you randy kids can keep your hands to yourselves for a little while. I have Mae waiting on the phone, to go over the threat.”
Bethany shot Rory a look, it was no good looking at Reaper. Men were clueless when it came to this type of thing. Rory pursed her lips. Yeah, she had noticed as well.
It wasn’t the first time Requiem had mentioned Mae.
And it wasn’t the first time his eyes had lit up when he did.
“Everyone’s here Mae.” Requiem settled himself at the table, as the others found chairs here. Reaper pulled Bethany onto his lap, smirking at Requiem's frown.
“Hi everyone,” A light breathy voice came over the speaker phone. And Bethany shot Rory a look. She sounded young. Young and girly. “It's great to finally be able to speak to you all.”
“Yeah Req has definitely been keeping you to himself… I wonder why?” Reaper's voice was droll. Bethany smacked his arm. Maybe her love was a little more perceptive than she gave him credit for.
“So, I think I’ve found the problem, but it’s not something I can help with remotely. So how do you guys feel about a little extraction mission?” Her voice had turned business like. It was almost rehearsed. “You get me the hard drive, and I’ll crack it and find out who has been bothering you.”
“You can do that?”
“Of course, I can.”
“Then when do we leave?”
