Chapter 180 Dario, Momma Will Be Back Soon
LORENZO
“Alright, I’ll pick you up from the mall. Just be careful, okay?”
“I will. Kiss Dario for me. Goodnight.”
“Night,” I replied thoughtfully.
“Is that Sancia?” Luca asked after I hung up.
We were both at the gym, blowing off some steam, when Sancia’s call came through.
“How did you know?” I asked, dropping my phone on the weight bench as I picked up the small towel and wiped the sweat from my neck and face.
He shrugged. “Probably because she’s the only one who has the power to make your mood plummet that fast.”
“She wants to meet tomorrow at noon,” I said, picking up my bottle of water and absentmindedly twisting the cap.
“That’s great. Isn’t that what you want?” Luca asked. “You want her away from danger, so why do I get the feeling you’re not happy?”
“Because she doesn’t want to come back just yet,” I said, my voice tense with concern. “And I can’t shake the feeling that something serious has happened to her.”
“How so?”
“She sounded off.”
“Maybe it’s her mother’s sickness. I mean, she would’ve told you if something was wrong.”
I nodded slowly. “Maybe. I just fucking hate that she’s there with that asshole. Anything could happen to her without me there to protect her, and her brother isn’t even there.”
“Well, it’s not like you can go there without this turning into a fucking war.”
He was right.
It wasn't time yet. I couldn't ruin the plan before I got those traitors, but it wouldn't be long.
Luca sighed, then clamped a hand on my shoulder. “Look, I get that you’re worried, but you need to chill. Sancia is a smart woman.”
“I know.”
But that didn’t make me feel any better. No matter how smart she was, Sancia was still there, surrounded by people I didn’t trust, and I couldn't do a damn thing about it.
“I just don’t like it,” I admitted. “I said I would try, but this decision is killing me. I can’t stop worrying.”
“I know, and I’m surprised you’re letting her get her way, but that’s a good thing. Sometimes you’ll need to concede and respect your partner’s wishes.”
I scoffed. “There you go again, giving advice to married men, meanwhile the girl you want is waiting for you to man the fuck up and own your feelings.”
“You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about,” he said, getting back on the treadmill.
I smirked. “I didn’t know you were such a coward. You could twist a man’s head clean off with batting an eye, but can’t approach the woman you love. It’s fucking hilarious.”
“Fuck you.”
“Coward.”
Luca ignored me and sped up the treadmill.
I shook my head, grabbed my phone, and started toward the exit. “Tomorrow, you and Savio are coming with me,” I threw over my shoulder.
“Yes, Capo,” he replied begrudgingly.
I grinned as I stepped out of the gym and headed for the stairs.
The house had gone quiet since Dario went to bed hours ago. Villa Marchetti had suddenly become livelier since Dario stepped through its doors.
Having my son here with me was something I never thought could give me such joy, but it did.
Dario, just like his mother, was a blessing in my life, and I’d do anything to keep him safe. And I couldn't wait until everything was over and we were all together as a family.
I never realized how deeply Dario was attached to Sancia until the day he woke up without her.
At first, he was fine. We had breakfast together, and I played with him for a while before taking him out for a drive when Luca arrived in London.
But when we got home and he saw Sancia still wasn't back, he cried and threw tantrums I'd never seen from him, constantly asking for his mother.
Honestly, if it weren't for Zetta and Giulia, I wouldn't have known what to do with him.
But gradually, I was learning about my son and finding ways to connect with him.
My first stop was my room, where I stripped down, took a long shower, then pulled on a pair of shorts and walked to Dario's room.
It was the same room I'd prepared back when my little tigress was carrying him.
Unfortunately, the crib was now too small for him, so Giulia and Maria had helped me choose a new one at the mall, along with everything else he might need, since we hadn't brought many of his things from London.
Fortunately, those were his least favorite things, so it was okay. Sancia had repeatedly reminded me not to forget any of his toys. She'd personally packed everything we had brought before she left with Antonio and Isabella.
“Dario, Momma will be back soon,” I whispered as I brushed my fingers lightly over his cheek.
He looked utterly adorable, sleeping with his mouth slightly parted, just like his mother.
I stayed with him for a while, watching the steady rise and fall of his little chest until I started to feel drowsy.
Then I tucked his blankets a little tighter around him and silently left the room, heading back to mine.
I couldn't wait to see my tigress again and find out how she was really doing. Every moment apart from her made me miss her more.
As I climbed into bed, my mind went back to the way Sancia's voice had sounded tonight.
She'd said everything was fine, but I knew her.
Something was wrong. Hopefully, it had nothing to do with that bastard Antonio. Otherwise, I wasn't sure I could keep my promise to Sancia.
Because if that asshole had hurt her in any way, I wasn't sure even she could stop me from killing him myself.
