Chapter 26

Lorenzo.

The sudden act completely caught me off guard. I held her, gently placing her on the bed just as the door burst open and Roberts sauntered in.

I had mindlinked him the moment she passed out.

"I got your message, Alpha. What hap..."

I was in front of him in no time, my hands clutched at his neck, "What the fuck did you do to her? Why did she suddenly pass out?"

"Alph... Alpha..I..." He choked out.

"What did you fucking do to her?"

He held my hands in desperate action, his cheeks turning red at once.

"Please, Alpha...she will be...fine," I let go of his neck, while his hands quickly went up to the spot.

He walked over to her side, checking her vitals and I went closer to him, watching his every move, "So? What seems to be the matter? Why did she suddenly have a panic attack?"

There was a slight knock on the door at that moment, and Lily, his assistant, a young doctor stepped in, holding a file in her hands.

"I'm sorry for barging in, Alpha," she bowed slightly.

Her sudden demeanor made me frown, "What is the matter, Lily?"

"The test results for the patient are out. And I am afraid... it's not looking good."

A"What?" I snatched the file from her hands.

"What does this mean, Roberts?" I passed the file to him, as I couldn't understand a word written in there.

He came forward, taking the file from my hands. For a few minutes, he was quiet.

"Well? Care to tell me what the hell is wrong with her?"

The silence was deafening until Lily spoke, "We...we found traces of neuromuscular blocker in her system."

"Neuro...what? What does that mean?"

"She seemed fine just a moment ago," Robert interjected, "But this could be bad for her."

"How bad? And what the hell is that and how did it get to her system?"

"It is a drug which is typically used in medical settings and can be harmful if used improperly....it seems she had or was ingested with it, and It is causing her muscles to weaken and paralyze, leading to the panic attack."

My fingers pinched the bridge of my nose as he spoke, his words sounding both strange and foreign to me.

"Well, whatever it is, get it out of her system already!"

He nodded, "The main priority right now is to treat her and ensure her safety. We will administer an antidote and monitor the effects closely."

To Lily, he said, "Get the stuff ready for the treatment." She nodded quickly and walked out of the office.

Turning back to me, he asked, "Has she shifted yet?"

"Shifted? What do you mean...what has that got to do with her treatment?"

"Uhm..." he glanced at her on the bed, "she looks pretty young, but if she has shifted already, then it causes some complications for the next... "

"What complications?"

"Well...the neuromuscular blocker is likely gonna affect her ability to shift, causing her body to revolt. We have to treat her to prevent further consequences."

"And if she hasn't?"

"If she hasn't yet, then...she has to. There are signs of it already. There is a full moon near and if care isn't taken, she might lose control. If she doesn't shift, her body may try to force the transformation, leading to severe consequences. We need to administer the antidote and get her stable before the full moon rises."

My eyes trailed to her, lying on the bed, peaceful like she hadn't just lashed out a few minutes ago.

If she had gotten a wolf already, I definitely would have known. I could have been able to smell her wolf. But there was nothing.

"I do not think she has shifted yet. The full moon is in three days, so there should be enough time for you to cure her."

"Yes."

*******

"Where are you, Kai?" I mind-linked Kai as I made my way to the mansion. The treatment was in progress and I needed to settle some loose ends.

"Kai?"

"On my way up. Just finished taking care of Eric's body. Need to have a shower."

'Great!' I muttered.

I needed him to keep watch over her at the clinic. Might be paranoid but I was not letting any chances this time.

"Be quick about it. I need an eye on Val in the clinic."

"Understood."

I burst through the doors to the mansion, my fists clenching and unclenching.

At times like this, when I was obviously on edge...was the time for Hunter to emerge.

But it has been a while...whatever dose Kai had injected was likely to last for a few more days.

Not like I would want Hunter to show up now, It was much better if I was in control.

Walking into the mansion, an old familiar scent caught my nostrils and I frowned.

I could detect Ellie's scent as well, and I knew she was close by.

Sure enough, she came out from the living room, walking up to me, with a smile on her face.

She was all dressed up with a revealing outfit like it was some kind of celebration...but that was simply Ellie. Always going overboard.

"There you are, Lorenzo. I have been looking all over for you. Where have you been?"

She walked straight to me, but I met her halfway, grabbing her arms roughly, "What did you do to her?" I growled at her.

"What...do what?" She stuttered attempting to release her arm from my hold.

She made to wrap her hands over my neck but I grabbed her wrists, "I called for you. Didn't you get the message?"

"Oh, you did?" She smiled more sweetly, "Sorry I was attending to some guests. Speaking of, they've been waiting for you a while now."

Ignoring her words, I warned, "Do not try to play smart with me, Ellie. I have had enough of that, so I am gonna ask you again, and I wouldn't be lenient this time if you fail to give me a tangible reason, which I am sure you do not have."

Her face was scrunched up, as my fingers dug into her arms.

"What did you do to her?"

"Stop it, Lorenzo. You are hurting me."

I nodded, "Right. Thought as much. I am gonna make you feel twice as much pain as you'd caused her. I told you. I warned you, Ellie. Valerie is mine. To do as I please, and not your plaything."

I grabbed her, pulling her as I made my way forward, "Where are you taking me?"

Her hands went up to mine, attempting to release my hold on her, "stop it, Lorenzo. We have..."

"Lorenzo. There you are!" A soft familiar voice reached my ears, making me halt mid-step.

Standing just a few meters beside me, was my paternal grand aunt, Melissa. Her eyes met mine, and she smiled widely.

I was stunned, my eyes widening and my mouth opening and closing, unable to find my voice. Her presence made me confused.

"Aunt Melissa? What...what brings you here?"

"Oh shush it, Lorenzo. Is that a way to welcome your aunt after so many years?" She stretched forth her hands, "Come here."

I didn't wait to be told twice. My grip on Ellie relaxed and I walked forward, hugging her.

it's been years since I last set my eyes on her.

"Oh my, sweet little nephew, it is so nice to see you again," she held my hands, pulling me into the living room.

"Come, we have been waiting for you."

I was more surprised as I took in the faces of the people sitting in the living room, all of whom I recognized instantly.

"What...what brings you all here?" I asked, my brows furrowing a bit.

"Oh, do not be silly my dear," My aunt replied, smiling widely. "We are here to celebrate with you of course. Finally you are giving us an heir."
