Chapter 50 The Boating Accident
Before Audrey could register what was happening he had pulled out a dagger, his crazed gaze directed at her. Her heart stops, the only sound ringing in her ears were the blaring alarms. She stared at the object with wide eyes, her breath caught in her throat out of fear to speak or move.
She swallowed thickly, a later of sweat coating her brows as her hands vegan shaking. He bent down, stabbing the wood of the boat continuously u til a crack resonates through the silence and the boat begins to fill with blue water. Her eyes widen to a fraction as he throws the paddles over, the wood breaking into the water and sinking and with them the boat rider follows after. He jumps in, catching himself he begins to swim away, leaving Audrey there as the boat began sinking into the blue water's icy claws.
Water rushes into the boat, making it tip over. She jumps in, all the air getting knocked out of her lungs at the impact, she struggles to swim up with the weight of her now soaked dress. The icy water as if pulling her in she kept sinking, her hand waving frantically as she screamed
"Help!. Please! Help!" She was drowning.
Water rushed into her mouth, chocking her and her loud cries. Tears run down her cheeks, washing off with the current that pushes and pulls. She was going to drown if she didn't do something. She needed help.
She tried kicking, frantically shaking her hands and pulling herself to the surface but she kept getting pulled right back down. As the water swallowed her head whole her chest tightened, water filling her lungs and leaving room for her to utter one more word, "D-darius"
It was a soft whisper, less than loud enough to reach anyone but not her mate. Immediately Darius's chest gets heavy and his pulse quickens, he gets visibly restless and impatient. Somehow he had this feeling that Audrey was in trouble, somewhere, somehow.
His heart squeezed and it felt like it was being ripped out of his chest. He staggered, gripping hard onto the shoulder than had appeared beside him. Ryder held onto him, helping him steady himself. He clutched a hand over his heart, the spot physically hurting as Phoenix whined in the back of his mind, "Mate, mate!"
"Darius, Darius what's wrong? What's happening?" Ryder asks, concern written all over his face.
Anaise, Greer and Orchid run up to them, their eyes wide and their demeanor erratic.
"Where's Audrey!? Where is she!? She's in danger where is she!?" He tells, his voice immediately drawing the attention of the other guests as they face the scene.
"We haven't seen her since she went towards the docks-" immediately Raya comes running into the scene, breathing rapidly and shaking with tears running down her cheeks.
"Her majesty! She's drowning! Water, please help! She's dying" Darius's dilated pupils snap towards the frantically maid and he runs towards her, startling her.
The four follow behind, Greer trying her best to get more out of her. "Someone on a boat saw the one Audrey w-was on sinking a-and she was drowning-"
Darius didn't wait for her to finish before he had dashed towards the back, fighting through the physical pain he felt. He felt comfortable invade his lungs and still his breathing, be fauktered, almost falling to the the ground and gripping his chest but he pushed through.
"Audrey, please. No, no, no"
He arrived at the docks, people standing by as they stared into the water. Males dived into the water, guards following in as they swam around in search of Audrey.
Darius wasted no time in discarding his attire, stripping down shirtless as he jumped head first into the water. He ignored the pain that shot through his chest and continued parting through the water, his body vibrated with pain as he navigated his way through.
He rose to the top, his mind leading him to a certain spot. Deciding to follow his feelings he diced back in, cutting through the water and diving deeper.
Blue filled his view, he searched around, his chest tightening the more when he didn't spot Audrey. He swam deeper, his eyes trailing a piece of fabric and when his eyes landed on a faint figure it was like his heart had stopped beating. She laid there floating as her hair fanned out around her pale face.
He swam faster as he reached her, his chest lightening but the pain he now felt increasing at the sight of her. Wrapping his arms around her waist he pulled her body to his, using himself to support her as he swam easily to the top. He continued parting through the water as he reached the view of his divers. They opted to take Audrey from him but he growled, scaring them so badly they retracted.
He had found her
He pulled her to the shore, frantically planting kisses along her pale face and lightly shut eyes. He hugged her limp form in his arms, cracking her body back and forth as he walked into the palace.
"Darius!" Ryker ran up to meet him, his wide eyes landing on Audrey's unconscious form in his arms. "She's unconscious"
Ryker moved to to collect Audrey but Darius snatched her away, growling and shooting daggers at him. His eyes had pooled with gold flakes telling Ryder that the need to protect Audrey had been so much it awoke Phoenix. He wasn't aware Audrey could be dying, he only cared that she was with him.
"Call the pack doctor!" Ryker yelled out as he helped Darius usher Audrey into the palace and up to their wing.
"Calm down Phoenix listen to me, no one is going to take her from you. She's in danger and if you don't eat the doctor come close she won't make it!" He stated firmly, staring hard at Darius.
Darius's gold eyes exchanged looks from Audrey's unconscious form still laying in his arms now on her bed and to Ryker and the pack doctor who stood by shaking.
Darius fought Phoenix for control, Audrey was at stake. Phoenix grunted, nodding subtly for the doctor to step foward. Immediately the doctor was within arms length he snapped, lunging straight for the doctor even before he was able to touch Audrey.
