Chapter 154 Prophecy
AUDREY
The carriage rode to a halt in the middle of the town square. The sound of playing children, arguing noble men and giggling ladies filled the air with life. The carriage door rattled as it was pulled open by Maximus, his hand outstretched to assist Cordelia and I as we stepped down. From the corner of my eye I spotted the pub where Nostradamus and I had agreed to meet. Cordelia and I stood in the middle of the square, looking around for the mercer's shop.
I felt a hand grab my wrist, "I see the shop my lady!" Cordelia announces excitedly as she points towards the finest shop on the street. It looked beautiful, encased in white tiles and fine oak wood doors. It looked like a thirst trap for nobles, they had an eye for the expensive things. I guess now I had to as well.
Maximus stood beside us quietly as I began to think of a way to slip out without him following me.
I placed a hand on Cordelia's to let her know I had seen the shop, "You go on ahead with Maximus, I forgot something in the carriage and I will join you shortly"
My gaze flickered around to see the carriage had ridden off somewhere to wait for us. I smiled inwardly knowing this would be the perfect chance.
Maximus made a move to walk beside me but I held out a hand, "There will be no need to come with, accompany the Marchioness to the shop and I will be with you soon"
Maximus fell into a thoughtful silence as he seemed to he calculating the odds of something happening to me in the short tile I was supposed to be gone. He nodded firmly and followed the Marchioness into the shop. I made sure they had entered and the door was shit behind them before I made my way towards the pub. Placing my hand on the rusty knob I turned it and pushing the door open a wave of warmth, the scent of food, spices and baked goods filled my senses. Maybe I could request for something to eat while we talked? No, Elijah had told me eating outside was not safe.
I swallowed down my appetite as well as any thought of eating here as I made my way in. Luckily for me I didn't stand out as much and I was certain before j would be recognized I would find Nostradamus. My gaze caught sight of him sitting alone at a table. I made my way to the seat and slipped in, slightly covering my face with my hands.
"Your Majesty" he acknowledged, wanting to get up to bow but I held him back down
"There is no need for that, especially not here" my gaze roamed the room to see if anyone was watching us but thankfully they were too busy with their meals.
He slowly sits back down, a confused gaze directed my way "You sent me a letter requesting my presence Your Grace, how may I be of service to you?"
"After you told me about that prophecy. A lot of things have been happening that I need clarification on"
He listens attentively as I narrate everything: from the dream I had to the book I read, then to the tapestry I had seen in the castle a long time ago and how I had been feeling about it all.
When I finish his gaze is fixed on the table and I could tell he was thinking of something.
"After that day I told you about what I saw in your future I went back to search for anything I could see. Over the time what I saw was you as the moon, releasing the kingdom from the darkness that had held it tightly for centuries, you were the light that killed the darkness. That golden eyes beast of evil was the representation of the darkness in every single one of my visions. And in everyone you we're in a battlefield, dead bodies laying in disarray and the skies covered in black smoke, the moon the only thing that was visible. The smell of war, blood and tears coated the air. The kingdom had been reduced the ashes"
His gaze was glazed over and he stared into the distance as if the images were replaying themselves in front of his eyes "Ruins, the soils had been matted with anguish and you, you your Majesty". His orbs, tight with tension and feat locked onto mine, "You will be the one to purge us of the darkness, the sin born of chaos.. You will be the one to save Bludhäven"
"I believe the tapestry you had seen was the original that had been spoken about in that book. I did my best but I could not find the tapestry, but if you could bring me the History Book then I would be able to do a little more"
I inhaled deeply, my lips parted in shock and my mind reeling from all the new information. It was all so overwhelming and unbelievable, how was I to save Blùdhaven from this dark, formidable beast when I was unable to even kill the littlest rodents. How? And what about Darius? "What about Da-The King, was he not in any of your visions?"
Fear creeped into my bones as I watched his face fall, "Unfortunately he was not"
I nibbled on my lower lip, deep in thought. How was all this possible? Just how?
"When is this all supposed to happen?"
His eyes wavered in uncertainty, "That I do not know but with what we do know about this darkness is that it is an ancient being, it has tormented this land for centuries but no one has been alive long enough to witness it. When it will occur next is not set in stone"
This being, I had seen it in my dreams and it had tried to hurt me. The battlefield in Nostradamus visions was the same one I had seen in my dream, that could not have been a coincidence.
I snapped out of my reverie, "Thank you Nostradamus. I will arrange another meeting and I will bring you the book"
He nodded, standing and walking out through the back entrance of the pub. I pushed myself up, passing by people who kept bumping into me buy I could not care less as my mind was a big mess. This was a big revelation, I had to tell Darius immediately we returned and no matter what I had to make him believe me. I hurried into the Mercer'd shop where I saw Marchioness Cordelia selecting silks. Maximus was nowhere to be seen.
I walked up to Cordelia and the moment she spotted me she discarded what she was doing.
"My lady" she smiled and the Mercer had just taken notice of my presence.
"Your Highness" he bowed, scurrying around the table to where I stood.
