Chapter 125 By his side

Chapter 125 By his side
I pull away, my entire face crimson. There's a satisfied smile on her face that just makes me darken the more. Was it that obvious!??

I groan internally, just great.

"Anyway dearie, you will find your ladies are near the food tables and please tell Orchid and Greer not to finish all the sweets" she sighs frustrated and I could only wonder what those two girls had done to make Faye so frustrated.

From what I had gotten to know over the years was that Faye was a very devoted and hardworking woman. She was the best. How she was able to pull all these grand extravagance in just a matter of hours shocked me and the work didn't seem to shake her but for her to get frustrated by my two ladies that meant they were really in need of some monitoring.

"Of course Faye" I plaster a weary smile, my cheeks still hot.

I wave her goodbye, making my way to the food tables that were located in a seperate part of the grand hall, a whole other room even. Thankfully not many people were in here, only a few people talking with wine glasses in hand. I continue to look around, food tables littered all over the place so it would take whole.

Unexpectedly I bump into someone's form, my head colliding with their chest. I stumble back, placing my footing before I could possibly trip and yet the person I bumped into still felt the need to reach out for me, holding onto my waist like I did indeed trip. A little shocked by the contact and definitely feeling uncomfortable I look up only to lock eyes with Lord Anthony's.

Immediately I pull back, my eyes darting everywhere to see people glancing at us before going back to their business. I snatched my gaze to his, realising he was still very much in my personal space. I step back, smoothing out my dress as I eye him suspiciously.

"My apologies, my princess" his voice comes, his eyes boring holes into my flesh.

"It's okay" I don't bother to wear a fake smile.

"Excuse me" I side step him and just when I'm about to walk away his words stop me.

"So you're really going to do this, all of this for power?" His condescending tone hit me, making alarms in my head blare.

I slowly turn around, an incredulous look on my face, "You don't even love him, you don't belong here and still you insist on dressing and acting like you do"

I could feel my blood boiling and threatening to topple over.

I walk up to him, making sure my face is in his view all nice and clear "I do not need to answer to you, because you are nog important, but I love my fiance and I may not belong here in your eyes but I do belong wherever he is, by his side, that is my rightful place. So you do well to stay away from me, otherwise I will make sure that new title of yours is ripped away from you"

The shock on his face was evident. I smirked inwardly, watching him closely as his eyes trailed down to lock on something. I follow his gaze to my ring and realisation strikes me.

Did I let that slip? Whatever, it would be announced anyway.

"Y-you're engaged to him" he states the obvious, his eyes dangerously dilating and his face pale.

I take a careful step back, "You need to get yourself together and stay far away from me. I will not warn you again"

With that I walk away without sparing him another glance. That was odd and unsettling.

I wish I knew why he insisted on filling my head with doubts, he wasn't on either side- Against Darius and my union neither was he in support of us so what exactly was his problem?

In front of everyone he behaved like a loyal servant to the crown but with me he behaved so repulsed by the very idea. It was confusing

Deciding not to dwell on it I continue searching for my ladies until I spot all four of them talking to the Earl of Birminton- Lord Caesar. I walk up to them and their conversation dies out once they take notice of me.

"Princess" they all bow at once making me feel awkward but I covered it with a small nod of acknowledgement. "I am honored to be invited to this event, even though I'm still unaware of what the ball is for"

I gazed away, hiding my shy smile, "His Highness would announce the reason behind this occasion soon"

"It was a pleasure talking to all of you, especially you Miss Anaise" he turned towards her, taking her hand and pressing a kiss to it. I watched, both shocked and excited an equal amount of emotion displayed on Orchid's face.

We all stood in silence as we watched Lord Caesar walk away.

I turn towards Anaise, "That's new"

"He's absolutely crushing on her, hard" Orchid squeals, nudging Anaise's shoulder. My gaze fixates on Anaise and I take notice of how her eyes are locked on a particular place, her mind wasn't here. I follow her gaze to see she was staring so transfixed at Ryker, his gaze rising as well to lock with hers. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel something between them, we're they secretly courting? Did they like each other. There was this spark between them, like a dormant live wire waiting to ignite.

I smile inwardly, keeping my thoughts to myself. I walk beside Anaise, wrapping my arms around her to catch her attention.

"I'm glad to see you all are getting around well at court" I announce cheerfully, effectively bringing her back to the present.

She plasters on a counterfeit smile, a distant look in her eyes. She was definitely not here.

"Your luck may be trickling down to the rest of us" Greer wiggles her brows towards me and I stare at her blankly. Her gaze flickers to my finger and immediately I know she has seen my ring. Sugars. A blush blossoms across my cheeks making me gaze away to hide it.
