Chapter 78

MILA

The stench of the rogues was pungent.

I quickly stepped closer, pulling the girl behind me as the others followed suit.

I stared ahead; whatever was blocking us earlier when we drove in was now down.

“Well, well, well,” spoke of the rogues, who pulled me back from my thoughts.

A growl slips past my lips and Archer’s as they step closer.

Sapphire sniffs the air and lets a low growl escape, “there are nine of them,” she murmured, “we can take them.”

“It seems we have found what we are looking for, boys,” one spoke, “Aria will be pleased.”

I growl, but my power surfaces; the mere mention of Aria sets my blood boiling.

I want her dead.

“Come, little dragon and white wolf,” another called out, “we can do this the easy way or the hard way.”

“I don’t think so,” I grit out.

I have had enough of everyone trying to kill or capture me.

“Oh, she wants to fight,” shouts another one and stares to charge.

I feel my hand go into a fist, and my magic forms around me; purple flames shoot up as my rage comes back with a vengeance.

The rage I had before was nothing compared to what I had inside me now.

“Everyone dug,” I whispered as the flame overcame me. I moved my hand out and let my magic go, hitting the rogue as he jumped mid-air to shift into his wolf, but the flame captured him, sending him howling and whimpering as the fire took hold.

I glance behind at the shocked faces, but they quickly recover as they all start to charge toward me.

I used my magic and took each of the rogues out with the flame, but as I was about to take the last two out, someone screamed, making me look back as the young girl was being dragged away by another one, one that I didn’t even notice.

“There are more,” roared Sapphire as our power ignited, sending more flames spurging around us as it engulfed us more.

“I have had enough of this bullshit,” I muttered.

Sapphire agreed with me as I let her take over my human form. Her power magnified my own power, making it larger to control as we allowed the magic to take over us.

I closed my eyes and let the magic do whatever it needed; I felt my whole body move up and off the ground, and we started to spin out of control.

Screams could be heard around us.

“Move,” I heard a female voice, bringing us back.

After a few seconds, I felt my feet touch the ground, and the spinning stopped.

I opened my eyes and stared at the sight before me as Sapphire pushed me forward while she went back into my head but stayed close by to make sure we got every one of the rogues.

I stared out as dust blew around.

I sniffed.

Ash.

What the hell did we do?

My head started to head slightly, but I felt weak.

I go to take a step forward but stumble as my legs are jelly, and someone catches me, their arms wrap around my waist.

I look over my shoulder and see Archer staring back at me with concern.

Sapphire yawns in my head as I feel a sudden urge to fall asleep as I feel my knees give way.

“We need sleep,” she said as I looked back at her. Her eyes droop as she lays down in my head, her head resting on her paws, and she falls asleep.

Archer’s grip around my waist tightens as I fall back into him.

My eyes start to feel heavy as they close.

“LITTLE DOVE,” shouts Archer as my eyes close, sending me straight into darkness.

My body was exhausted.

ARCHER

I stare down at little dove and worry.

Drack could feel the rage inside her take over her a second time. She was angry, and she had every right to be.

Aria had already taken so much from her, and sending rogues to do her dirty work was something else.

I hear footsteps come up to me, but I don’t look as I know it’s one of the witches.

Her shadow comes over us as she kneels and looks at little dove, “she needs to rest,” she murmurs, which makes me look at her.

Her eyes were on little dove, her face was holding so much, but pride was written all over her face.

She looks up at me and smiles.

“I have heard of the power of the white wolf,” she says, “I never thought I would witness her use her power twice.”

I stared at her but didn’t say anything.

Remembering what Mila did with the car and with all the rogues, it was fascinating but also scary to witness.

Her power was always foretold in legends of power beyond belief, but what I witnessed today was something out of the myths. I have never seen anything like it in all my years on this earth.

Drack nods in agreement; pride for our little dove sweeps through me as he has done on many occasions.

“We need to get her inside,” the witch says.

I nod as I lift her little dove bridal style and stand.

I look at the carnage she left in her awake.

Sage, the witch from earlier, was staring at me, concern in place, as she walked over to me and stopped a foot away, standing next to the other witch; her eyes went on me, but they moved to Mila.

“She used too much of her power,” she says, which makes Drack and me growl.

“What do you expect to happen?” I growl, “She has been attacked twice and brought against her will by witches, and not once have you told us what the hell your part is in all this.”

Drack and I had held that in by the skin of our teeth. We were trying to keep calm about everything, but we had enough, and Mila and Sapphire felt the same as it came charging into us when she was using her magic.

Sage stares at me, but the other witch speaks.

“Let’s go inside,” she said, looking over her shoulder to the third witch, “Dalia, place another protection spell around us.”

The woman nods but looks at me with a small smile before she turns away.

I looked over where everyone else was.

Luke got everyone to safety by the cabin except Alanna. She was taken by one of the rogues, but that was the trigger for Mila as her power overcame her again. Alanna kicked the rogue in the nuts and dodged when Mila’s power hit him.

I stared at her; her eyes met mine.

Her eyes reminded me of Lucas. She was his mirror image, but her eyes were definitely his, the same color.

“We should go inside,” the witch said, walking up to me. “The white…”

“Mila,” I said, without looking at her, “her name is Mila, so stop calling her white wolf.”

I was met with silence as we walked toward the cabin.

I needed answers.

So did everyone else.
