Everything Is Crumbling

Everything Is Crumbling
Logan

Everything began to go down to shit. I was so pissed off. I was hurt, and I felt my world was crumbling down to pieces.

It's been three days, three long days after. Though, they feel longer.

How could she do this to me? I love her, I love her so much. I trusted her. But all she did was play with my emotions, she lied to my face and played me so bad. She played with my heart.

How could I've not seen the signs? I was so gullible.

Worst of all, she hadn't come to school for those past three days. All her friends were scattered. Troy was eating alone with Lexie, and Dylan was hanging out with other guys from our school football team.

I was in such a bad mood that the coach had warned me a few times at practice for hurting some of the guys. I didn't give a shit. I needed to get my anger out somehow.

Besides, this is fucking football, guys should know it's a rough game. I toughed it out in the field to take some of the edges off my anger, even if coach thought so wrong.

I couldn't bear to eat and sit during lunch for too long. Classes were torture knowing she wasn't here, and things had ended between her and me. I hated everything and everyone right now.

Maybe I should have listened to Amber. Shit was never going to work between Sophie and me. She was right. It was pathetic of me to wish so high.

I headed home after practice and threw my stuff on the floor, slamming my helmet on the floor.

Everything in my room was a big mess. I threw shit around and broke anything on sight the day we broke up, and it stayed that way ever since.

All- except the things she'd given me. I couldn't bear to do it. No matter how much I was mad at her right now, I couldn't dare to break the things she had given me.

"Logan? Wh- what is going on?" Ashley's voice startled me. My eyes were blurred by all the tears I had shed.

"Ash? Nothing. Everything is ok sweety. Where's mom? Did you eat something already?" I tried to hide my anger from her. I wiped my face quickly, blinking repeatedly to clear my eyes from the tears. I didn't want Ash worrying. She was still hurting from what dad did back in Chicago.

"No. Meghan and Aunt Ruth are out today. They're meeting mom for an event at the Patterson's vineyard. I guess mom is catering for them again. Logan?" She asked making my facial expression soften a bit.

"Are you and Sophie mad at each other?" She asked making my heartache worsen.

"Why do you ask bugger?" I said softly. I hadn't mentioned to her or mom about our breakup. Though, I knew eventually it would come out.

"You're crying like a little girl. Plus, she hasn't come over all week. AND, I miss her and Charlie, she usually brings him over so we can play together. Did you piss her off?" She tilted her head to one side, putting her right hand over her hip. The gesture made my heartache. It was a gesture Sophie did a lot, each time she meant business with me. It was a queue to not mess with her. She'd stand with her hand on her hip, face trying don't to stay serious, and head tilted to a side. Damn it! I miss her so much, despite her betrayal.

I smiled, trying to hide my sadness.

"I may have made her mad Kiddo, but she hurt me too. And, honestly, I don't know if we can fix it. Or, if we'll ever have a chance to fix it. Things got a little complicated between us, Ash." I said sitting on my bed, placing my hands on my knees.

"Well, easy. Tell her you're sorry. Duh!" She said making me chuckle.

"If only shit was that easy Ash. If only," She sat next to me, placing her hands around my waist.

"It could be if you try. Whatever happened, I'm sure you guys can fix it. Sophie loves you. Just say sorry and she'll forgive you." Her small voice was trying to comfort me. But it only made me break down harder.

I couldn't stand it anymore. I broke down in front of her. My tears began to run down, I held Ashley tight in my arms so she wouldn't see me cry.

"I'm afraid I may have lost her forever Ash. She didn't love me as I thought. She never did. And it's something I'll have to live with from now on."

"What? No. She loves you, Logan. I know it. She really does. I've seen the way she looks at you, mom said so herself."

"No Ash. She doesn't. But I know you care about her. I don't expect you to start hating her or Aaron because of what happened between us. It's ok if you want to keep being friends with them." I said to her. My voice wanted to break so bad.

"Whatever happened between you two, I know you can work it out. You two need to talk and work it out. You just have to. I know you both love each other, you have to talk to her and make it work."

"Ash!" I stopped her. I couldn't stand talking about this anymore.

"Just let it go, ok? I need to be alone right now Ash. I'll make dinner for us in a bit, ok? Just, give me a few minutes." I implored her. I need to be alone and calm my damn nerves. I was a wreck.

"Guys, I'm home." Mom's voice called out to us from downstairs.

Ashley hugged me, adding"whatever it is, I'm sure you'll work it out. You two love each other. There's nothing you and Sophie can't overcome together." She smiled, known kissing my cheek.

I sighed and followed right behind her downstairs.

Mom and aunt Ruth were setting down their bags on the kitchen countertop. Meghan and my sister went straight to the couch to watch the stupid k-drama series they had been watching lately.

Just as I was getting to the kitchen island, the doorbell rang. Mom gave me a quick kiss on my cheek and walked past me to answer the door. The doorbell rang again making her roll her eyes.

"I'm coming. Hold your horses." She said annoyingly. She opened the door. On the other side, was an officer with a  by envelope. "Mrs. Riley Spencer?" The officer asked.

"Yes, that's me." She said quizzically.

"Sign here please." He asked her, handing her the envelope and a board to sign a sheet. Mom signed it and handed back the board to the officer.

"May I ask what this is about officer?" She asked the officer who ignored mom's gaze and gave her an apologetic smile.

"Ma'am, you have been served. Good day to you." He answered and turned to leave.

"What? Wait, what do you mean?" She asked, narrowing her eyebrows and closing the door after the officer left

"What was that about mom?" I asked her as she turned back to us.

"I have no idea." She answered sitting on the edge of the sofa to open the envelope.

Her mouth gawked open, her hand immediately covering her mouth, and her eyes filled with tears.

"You bastard." She said, making me quickly take the papers from her hand.

"What is it, Riles?" Aunt Ruth asked mom. My face filled with more rage as I read the subpoena.

Dad was suing mom to annul their marriage. Worst of all, since Ashley was underage, he was fighting for her custody.

I guess if I thought things couldn't possibly get any worst, they just did.

Dad wasn't just an asshole, but he was making us see how bad he could ruin our lives with the power he held as a top lawyer.

"What am I going to do? Ashley, seriously? He hasn't been around for over a year without paying child support, and now he thinks he can just fight me for her custody? Is he out of his mind?" Mom cried on aunt Ruth's shoulder.

"What? No. I don't want to live in Chicago. Why does daddy want me to leave you, mom? No. I'm going to call him right now and tell him I don't want to go."

"Ashley, stop. This isn't your concern baby sis. We have to stay out. I'll get uncle Derreck on the phone, I'm sure he can help." Mom nodded as I glanced at her with a weak smile.

I couldn't understand what the hell was happening. What the hell did I do for all this shit to happen to us? I mean, I get it, I was an asshole to Sophie before, and I was the worst a few days ago when I caught her cheating, but mom and Ash don't deserve this. I had to do something. But what could I do?

I felt helpless and powerless against dad. But one thing for sure- I was not going down without a fight.

Dad wanted war, and I'll make sure he gets one.
