Chapter 59 CHAPTER 59

Chapter 59 CHAPTER 59
Kyla’s POV

“Your grandma needs you– have you seen the men she relates with? Venom and his gang,” I growled at her, swallowing my fear. I had left Grandma Lily in the forest with those Rogues and goodness. My heart lunged whenever I recalled how Venom glared at her and asked the other rogues to take her away.

I wondered what they had done with her. “Could you go and check on her please?” I asked again.

She furrowed her brows and stepped away from me. “What are you saying?” She stepped away from me and shook her head. I noticed a glaze of worry in her eyes but it didn’t last, she crossed her arm, glaring at me. “I’m sure she is fine, besides, that’s none of your business.”

I sighed and shook my head. “I wish I could tell her that the girl she thought was as innocent as she was is no longer alive.”

I expected to see anger in her eyes, but she slimed instead. “You are right. That girl died in the forest when–” she paused and gritted her teeth as her jaw twitched and rage crossed her eyes.

“When?” I asked her, waiting for her to complete her statement.

She looked away. “That’s not your concern, just find a way to get out of here. It’s not safe.” She kept her dagger and turned to leave.

I licked my lips. “Is Grandma Lily safe where she is?”

She halted, clicked her tongue and replied, “I’d told Kendrick that I lived with my parents in the camp, but I lived alone since I left the woods. If I tell Kendrick about it, he would ask my Grandma to meet my grandma and get her head. If my grandma came she would say something that would separate Kendrick and I for life.”

I stayed mute, waiting for her to tell me the part where she would retrace her steps and get that old woman from the woods and stop being selfish.

“Listen to me, Kyla. If I hear this from another person, you are done for. You better stay out of this.”

I sucked air through my teeth as I nodded. “So your Grandma is the sacrifice?”

She sighed and without responding, she stormed out of my room, slamming the door behind her. I heaved a sigh of relief as she left, rolled my eyes and fell back flat on my bed.

“Huh, how did I get that courage? She held a dagger to my throat.” I ran my hand over my neck as I thought out loud. I swallowed as my mouth went bitter when I recalled what she said about Kendrick.

Did he really use women? Maybe he did. He was the ruler afterall, like Daciana, many other girls would flock around him.

I felt a lump arise in my throat and I cleared it. “I can’t be a part of those girls. Daciana was wrong, I wasn’t trying to get closer to Kendrick.” I scoffed. “I was just trying to leave and it was my ill fortune that made me get into danger every single time. Thanks to the goddess he was always somehow there.”

My stomach churned as I thought of what my fate would have been if Venom had his way with me. A small smile crawled up on my lips. “Thanks Kendrick.”

I rolled to the side and stared out the window. I caught sight of large trees outside, and it reminded me of Grandma Lily. I frowned. “Daciana is unbelievable. She doesn’t care one bit about her. Maybe I have to do everything myself.”

This evening, I would take another shot– I promised Kendrick I wouldn’t try to run away again. But this was not running away. I was doing this for Grandma Lily, I had to see if she was fine and if possible, I would get her out of the woods and bring her to this camp.

Kendrick claimed he had a big heart, if he did– he had to prove it to me, by letting her stay in this camp. If I had to hide her identity to save her from those woods, I would.

That evening, a knock on my door, stirred me awake. I got up and saw the door opening, my eyes instantly went to the window, it was getting late. My heart lunged as the door opened up further. “Who is there?” I asked softly, as I imagined Venom’s face popping out of the door.

Chills crawled all over the surface of my skin as I recalled what happened in the woods, how I was so scared and about crying out. I flung the duvet off my legs and I was about to sprint to the door and lock it.

“Miss Kyla?” I heard Pamela’s quiet voice calling as she knocked again, the door opening slightly again.

I grabbed my chest and heaved a sigh of relief. My head rang as my senses heightened. “What was I so scared of?”

“Miss Kyla, are you there?” I asked. .

“I am, come in.” I replied. She pushed the door and came in, wearing a smile and she had a tray of food in her hand.

“How are you doing?” She asked, after she placed the food in front of me. I did a thin lipped smile. I didn’t know what to tell her, not after I disappeared on her this morning.

“Thanks to the goddess, Sir Kendrick found you unharmed. You scared the freak out of my child.”

I swallowed and looked up at her. I caught sight of how she was staring at me and I froze. It was familiar. The colour of her eyes, and shape of her smile. She looked familiar to me. Why didn't I notice all this until she smiled at me just now?

“Ma, do I know you somewhere?” I asked. She narrowed her gaze and widened her smile.

“Did you hit your head somewhere, in the woods? Of course you met me this morning,” she reached for me and ruffled my hair. I caught sight of the recognizable mole at the back of her hand.

“No, I know you.” I said, catching her hand.
