Chapter 51 A rocky marraige
Old Mad Hart looked at June as though she had two heads at her words.
“So what if she has really lost he mind? So what if we can declare her insane? She is married to Eric Black. He would be her default guardian, not us!” Old Madam Hart said in an explosive rage.
“Yes, But are they not getting a divorce? Everyone knows they are about to get divorced. We should help the divorce happen faster,” June pushed on. She hoped her grandmother would handle things more drastically that way. Even if they failed to get Lilac to separate from her husband, she definitely would not let Lilac live a good life if she was not living a good life.
“Evn if we could, no one would push for a divorce unless Eric Black wanted it himself,” June’s father, Carl Hart said solemnly.
“What drastic thoughts. You think I have not already tried a drastic way?” His mother asked.
They room passed as eyes settled on her, but she did not elaborate. She too knew she was the cause of the blacklisting the Black family had put on them in the past day alone.
“All you need to know is that it failed and offended Eric Black enough to get us blacklisted," she explained and Bella jumped to her feet
"So you really are the one who caused things to get this bad, but you blamed June? Do you know how this has affected my family?" Bella asked.
"That is not the most pressing issue. Eric Black was offended that I tire dto do something to Lilac!" old madam said and Carl's younger brother finally spoke for the first time.
"So, you are saying there is a possibility Eric will not divorce?" He asked.
"No, worse. There is a possibility he really sees Lilac as his wife. If she is really accepted as part of that family, anything we try to do would be a direct attack on the back family and they will retaliate. In fact, their retaliation has just begun," Old Madam Hart said.
“You want to bring her back to the family, don't you? You want her to come back and inherit officially that way the family gets saved and she becomes the head, don't you?” June asked her grandmother hurriedly. She was not the only one that wanted to know.
They were all curious by what she wanted. If Lilac returned, won’t she just throw them out? After all, they were not blood related, right?
They were considered quite the affluent family for those who were not aware, but in truth they were on their last leg. They had their own business but their company could not even be considered under top one thousand in the city, it was the family business grandfather built that we keeping them afloat, but even that, Grandmother wanted to ah d to Lilac? Wouldn't that be admitting that she was not the real granddaughter to the world and to Micheal? June was panicking now. Her life would be over.
Her in laws were very judgemental. They more or less moved round the same circles so she understood them well. Now she knew knew that her mother-in-law only accepted her because she thought she was grandfather's real granddaughter, what would happen when she knew the truth?
If Lilac who was always below her came back to inherit the family, she would become a laughing stock.
“She is still my daughter, why can’t she come back? ” Mr. Hart said, “The Leslies would definitely turn on us when they find out, so bringing her back is the safest option right now. The Black family would protext is from Micheal Leslie." Carl suddenly understood his mother's change of heart. Besides, he wa sure that when they got Lilac back in control, that inheritance would still end up in their hands. As he spoke, they all knew he was addressing June who could not believe her ears at her father’s words.
“What nonsense are you sprouting!” June’s mother, Bella shouted at her husband, “Do you think she will return because you want her to?”
“Why not? She has always wanted to be seen by the family, now she will be given the family and she will be treated with respect now, won't she want to come back?” he asked.
“She does not need us anymore. People only come back if they need something or the lost something. Lilac was never really one of us and we treated her so. She holds no attachment to our respect, or love. And more than anything, she does not need us,” Bella said.
“Every child wants their parents approval. She was raised by us, she will listen to us,” he said and Bella gave up on convincing him. She did not feel that Lilac would care, but since he was sure, he should do as he liked, what she needed to plan towards was her family's future and her daughter's marriage.
“Mother, if you call and offer it yourself, she would take it seriously,” Carl said. They all paused as they though what he said made sense. Bella sneered at this. The old madam was a woman of authority. Lilac had to answer if she called, was what they all thought, but ahev they forgotten Lilac is Mrs Black?
“Simce you all understand this, be on your best behavior. I am not sure what Lilac know about her bloodline yet. I will call and talk to her,” Old Madam Hart said and walked upstairs.
June was not sure how she returned home. She was in a daze till she walked into the Leslie mansion.
June stood in her room and reevaluated her life. How did she get here? She June Hart, Mrs Leslie needed to worry about her future? June could not help but start to pace around her room. What was she to do now? It really seemed that the family had concluded on their decision even if it blows up her life.
They had had decided, and she had lost. She could hear Micheal movimg around. They were going to be sleeping in the same room. The moment she recalled this, she knew that she did not have much time to prepare. She was afraid he would notice soemthing. She rushed into the bathroom for a quick bath. But for some reason when she saw the very large bath tub, she was utterly tempted to sit in it. This was a temptation she could not pass on after all she had discovered today. .
Completely forgetting her decision to basically and jump into bed before Micheal comes to their room, she ran herself a hot bath and got in. She sat in there for quite some time, her thoughts calculating what she would do about the situation she was in.
She soon figured that there was not much she could do to stop her family. If she kept bothering about it, she would die early. She figured that Lilac did not know yet, so there were options to keep her in the dark much longer. This was a good thing.
It did not mean though, that she could not do other things to Lilac to make things permanent, like kill her. The thought really crossed her mind. But for now, she had to be careful. She still had to survive living under the same roof as Micheal while she probs him about hai true feelings for her. He loved her, right? There is no way he would change because of this change, right?
She tried to weigh her options. She would have to interact with him some more to get a feeling of his thoughts to know how she could get out of this, if she could get out of this. It should be fine for now.
By the time June settled her mind, the water had cooled, so she cleaned up and walked out. When she stepped out in her towel, Micheal was already in bed reading.
She nearly cursed at the sight of him. She had only just settled her mind, but it was running wild again. His hair was slightly damp and he was dressed in a white cotton tees and pajama pants. She used to like this sight of him, but now she was nervous to face him.
June looked away and dashed into her walk in closet where she changed into her night wear. She made sure to not wear anything that could seem seductive to the man on the bed. As godly as he looked, she was in enough trouble as it was and was not willing to be tossed around all night.
She soon came out and climbed onto the bed. She got under the covers and laid quite far from him.
Michael had be glancing through documents on the bed while this happened. When he looked up from the files in his hands at her, June, who was usually clingy was lying far away. The bed was big so, she could pick the end and sleep there without touching him.
He frowned slightly then he reached out and pulled her to him. June soon found that she had been pulled into his arms and her whole back was now glued to him. His grip was strong, and she dared not resist anyway, so she remained trapped in there.
“Why so nervous? You feel stiff. And why sleeping so far away?” he asked, pu
tting down the papers in his hand.
