Chapter 83 I TRUST YOU
Chapter 83 I TRUST YOU
Kennedie
I saw the way he paled slightly when I asked him that and immediately felt like chewing back my words.
Of course I just had to speak without really considering the situation and ask something so out of pocket in this very moment. I cleared my throat “you don’t really have to tell me if you don’t want to. I mean-”
“No, I want to tell you” he said.
The way he looked at me, his eyes it made me hold a breath for a second. There was just so much emotion behind it.
“Your dad really helped me a lot you know” he began “a few years ago I was just some scruffy orphan whom no one would ever think to give a second glance” he said.
I took one of his hands in mine and smiled “I wonder why I never saw you” I said.
He shrugged “you probably did but you don’t remember but I saw you a lot” he said.
“Anyways, one day I started to notice changes in my body, my gums were always aching… I became faster, my senses were sharper and there was no one that could relate to what I was feeling” he said.
“You were changing?” I asked and he nodded “back then, I felt like I was a freak”
I cupped his face in my hands, my heart ached for him, how lonely had he felt, like there was no one in this world that understood him.
“You are not a freak Desmond, stop saying such horrible things about yourself.”
He smiled at me and dropped a soft kiss on my nose “I know that now Princess, but back then, I had no idea what could possibly be wrong with me” he said.
I caressed his face softly “continue the story please” I said.
“One full moon I lost control of myself and I shifted. By heaven it fucking hurt and I was all alone… my instincts just took over and if the Sage didn’t find me in time I would have really hurt someone” he said.
“But you didn’t” I said. “I know you Desmond, even if you were not found by anyone you wouldn’t have still hurt anyone, not on purpose” I said.
He looked at me with a smile, but it was not a really happy one, I could not quite place a finger on it. “You think way too highly of me Princess” he said.
“And I will until otherwise” I said.
That was me, I loved too hard, and I trusted too deeply. And yes maybe it may seem a bit foolish but to me that is a strength. To be able to really open your heart to people and always see the best in them.
“Anyways, that was how I met Andrea” he said “the Sage had her watch me and teach me all there was to know about my kind.” He scoffed “I hated her at first, but slowly she became my entire world and the reason why I wanted to be better, to be stronger” he said.
I swallowed my feelings down.
The way that he was talking about her, there was this glitter in his eyes, I just could not help but wonder if he would ever be like this with me or if I was just wasting my time.
“Anyways there was an incident and we were surrounded by hunters, we tried to fight... I did but the Sage she died while keeping us safe” he said. As he spoke, there was tears in his eyes.
I wiped it away softly “she must have been really important to you, wasn’t she?”
“She was the only mother that I have ever known”
I rubbed his hair, this was the most delicate that I had ever seen him. Fuck! I did not even know how to feel about it all. I wanted to hold him close and at the same time, I was not used to seeing him like this.
He was usually so dependable.
“How does any of this have to do with Andrea?” I asked.
I was always so curious, what exactly was it that was so bad that she did that it made their relationship go sour?
“When the pack was down and we were still trying to rebuild, it was hard without the Sage… it even felt so fucking impossible” he took a deep breath “when I needed Andrea the most, she abandoned us. Sold us out to go and become part of another pack” he said.
“That is horrible” I said.
“I remember I begged her to stay, told her that we could rebuild it all together, but that day she just spat in my face. Said my love was nothing but a joke if I had nothing to offer”
He looked up at me “you understand me right?” he asked.
I nodded “I do babe, and I want you to know that I am not like that” I said.
He nodded “I know that, it’s just that I promised myself that I would never take such chances again… I was a fool before but not anymore”
Fuck.
What did that hurt as much as it did? It was like this thing we had going on was a ship with no destination in mind. No matter how much more I waned, his heart and his mind would forever be consumed by the fucking past.
The worst part of it all, there was absolutely nothing that I could even do about it.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
I slapped on my usual smile, it was so fake in my heart that it felt like my mouth was even hurting with how much effort that it took to display my teeth.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore… I just want to know Desmond, if you still have feelings for her?” I asked.
He shook his head “I feel nothing for her Princess” he said.
When I did not reply he cupped my face “I am not lying, someone like her deserves nothing, not even my hatred” he said.
Did I believe him? Absolutely not.
But it seemed like my hear had other plans and would rather be delusional than accept the simple truth that was just right in front of me.
I bent down and dropped a soft kiss on his lips.
“I trust you”
