Chapter 16
“Why?” That's all I can say without my voice choking me. I'm curious about this because, I don't know when, but every time I look at our memories together, I get this nagging feeling that something isn't right. Or it is just me because my act is now beginning to influence my mind.
I don't want to be suspicious of him or make our already bad relationship even worse. Having doubts will only increase the chances that Zach will leave me. I always get scared when I think about this as if not having Zach in my life will kill me.
Perhaps he is right. That I'm obsessed with him, but I can't help it. I know I'm crazy, but I can't stop.
He looks at me with a dark expression but says nothing.
"Do you really don't remember anything?" Zach asked me this question instead of answering and going on with what he was saying.
His blue eyes never left my face for a second. My heart is racing, but I don't let my face show how surprised I am. I just nodded at him in response. I don't even know what words will come out of my mouth if I say something right now.
He looked at me suspiciously before he stood up and looked down at me. I can't even see his expression anymore because I'm too afraid to lift my head and make eye contact with him.
"Just do what I say, and forget what happened. After our divorce, you'll no longer be my wife." He said it casually, without caring about how I felt, and then added, "And will have nothing to do with all this." He turned around and walked away, leaving me alone.
I paused for a moment, processing what Zach said before blinking and powerlessly releasing the fork that I had been gripping so tightly for a few minutes.
Due to the silence, the sound of it hitting the plate echoed, and then there was silence once more. Finally, I lift my head and look at the door Zach just left, then back to his seat and the food on the table that he hasn't finished.
I sigh, feeling a little bit weak. That argument lasted only a few minutes, but it had already done a lot to my mind and emotions. It's already ruined.
I don't know who to blame this time: my stubbornness or Zach's heartlessness. My chin trembled as a chuckle escaped my lips, and I bit my lips as the rim of my eyes reddened instantly.
I don't like to admit it, but somehow, I've been expecting this moment since before it happened. It's bad, and we are already at this point.

After that, Zach didn't come home anymore, and I didn't see him again until a week later. Even before, he rarely went home, and I'm always on edge and suspect that Zach might already have a mistress outside the house, which is why he's so determined to end our marriage.
Now I have an idea of why. He is doing something I've never thought about until I see it for myself.
As the days passed, I finally recovered from the accident and felt as if I had never been in one in the first place. Everything is as usual. I'm at home being pathetic and waiting for my husband, but he never bothered to come home.
It's getting ridiculous, but I still don't want to give up. Right, letting go is not even one of my choices.
“You think it’s okay?” I came to a halt and stood motionless as I overheard the conversation inside Zach's study.
I haven't seen him in a while, which is why I want to see him. Now that he appears to have an important meeting, I can imagine Zach's dark expression if I barge in unannounced.
But my mind tells me to leave now and come back later, but another part of me wants to listen in on what they are saying. It bugged me, but the other side won, and I stood there, listening in on their conversation through the parted door.
“It’s not! Fuck!” Zach yelled, followed by the sound of glass shattering on the floor.
I winced a little at the sound of his voice and the glass before I frowned. Zach appears to be enraged this time. It's the first time I've heard him this angry and even breaking things. But what made him so mad?
"The decision had been made," a sugary woman's voice then resounded, deepening the frown on my lips and furrowing my brows. I recognize this voice; it's the annoying secretary. I've gotten so used to calling her that I can't even remember her name.
I don't even know why, but I really hate her so much.
"And... we can't go against too many enemies at once yet." She kept going, calm and collected as if she could control the situation even if it worsened.
She paused, and the room was quiet for a few seconds before Zach's voice came first.
"You're right," he agreed in a much calmer voice. "It's expected that no one will stand by and watch us eat that big piece of meat by ourselves." he continued, and while I don’t know what they were talking about previously. This statement made me assume things.
I don't know much yet, but based on what happened last week, it might have something to do with the fight they had in that bar with the Hiroshi Domain. Although I pretended not to hear Rizzo's orders to his subordinates, my ears were constantly active. It’s not impossible for me not to be really interested when I’m really curious in that new and dangerous world.
“But can I do? "I'm sure that cunning bastard had a hand in this," Zach's voice became heavy again, words gritted between his teeth. "Keep an eye on Rizzo, he's probably up to something."
As soon as I heard that name, my mind went blank for some reason. In an instant, I recall the appearance of that familiar stranger and his menacing green eyes.
I bite my lower lip. I don't know why I feel this way about a man I've only known for a few hours, especially since I haven't thought about him since that night. Now, just hearing his name makes me remember what happened that night.
"Got it, but it's not going to be easy."
"I know, just his recent whereabouts are fine. Never let him escape our sight. "I have a feeling he's up to something." He paused and continued with a sinister tone that I had never expected to hear from him.
"It's been two years. I didn't think he could last that long." He chuckled without any sense of humor, and his following words made my heart race faster than ever before as the suspicions inside my head blossomed in an instant.
“Add some more to Addalynn’s security, and I will make sure his plans won’t succeed.” He added, even more, dangerous than before.
Chills engulf my system as cold runs down my spine. My pupils constricted again, and my emotions became jumbled. What are they talking about? It’s about Rizzo and me... isn’t it? Why? Has Rizzo really had something to do with me before?
My temple throbbed again, and I tried to remember something but couldn't. I can't remember anything at all about him. Before they could find me, I had already left and ran to our bedroom, my mind more confused than ever.
Since that night, I really don't understand what is happening anymore. What are my real connections with him? This is seriously confusing me.
We didn’t meet after, and a lot of things going on in my head to even bother with him at this point. Until the next day, when he was the one who approached me.
"We'll go somewhere later," Zach said without much nonsense as I turned my head to look at him. Just like his tone of voice, he wore an indifferent expression, and yet I noticed how he also didn’t want this to happen.
“Where?” I ask, pausing to water the plants and turning to face Zach.
"At a party," he says, "and he looks right into my eyes and says, "Remember what I'll say, and don't leave my side." He gives the order with a look of reluctance.
And that's how I ended up at the party hours later, even though I don't even know why. Zach didn't tell me either, saying that I only needed to show up and nothing else.
