Chapter 101 Death do us part
Chapter 101 Death do us part
\[Author's POV\]
'Are you really upset about Lin's behaviour or the fact that Levi is with Charlotte? Remember, you are a victim of unrequited love.' I crossed my left leg over the other.
Ada shifts uncomfortably in her seat. 'Are you sure no one else will hear about this session with you?'
'Positive. There are no cameras here. It's just you and me.' My quiet reply came.
Ada sucked in a small amount of breath before exhaling. 'I know it's morally and scripturally out of order falling in love with relatives but…..
'You still love Levi?' I asked and I'm sure it came like a shock from the blue to Ada.
She hung her head in shame, muttering slowly. 'Yes.'
I try to placate her worries. 'It's not something you should be ashamed of. I'm just worried that you transferred your anger for Charlotte against Lin.'
Ada sucked her teeth and looked away.
Cheering her up came to my mind and that's what I tried to do. 'What do you want to do now? You've graduated college, right?'
Ada quirks up an eyebrow, glaring at me with her beautiful brown eyes.
'Aren't you supposed to be all knowing? You're the one that knows the story.' She barked.
I can't handle this one. 'Why don't you get some fresh air outside?'
Ada shoved up from her seat and walked out the door, slamming it loudly. I palmed my face knowing the next interviewee will do a lot worse than Ada did.
There's a quiet knock.
'Come in.' I leaned back into my seat as Lin walked in.
'Am I even supposed to be here?' She asked.
I pointed at the empty white couch in front of me and she motioned to the seat.
'What's this about?' She asked.
I reached for the candy bar on the stool beside me and tore it open. 'I want to hear your testimony.'
'Testimony?' She stretched her hand and I tossed her a candy bar.
'Yeah. You got rejected from the show. I want to hear your comments on that.' I put out my recorder.
'Isn't this supposed to be a private session?' She rolled her eyes.
'Sorry, darling. I'm not your therapist.' I wink at her.
'Fine,' Lin rolled her eyes. Then she clenched her left fist. 'Of course, I'm upset about it. Elon will regret taking me off his show and that Josie, oh, she will pay.'
'Have you ever been rejected from a show before?' I asked.
'No. That's the crazy part. No one has ever taken me off a show. Someone definitely has their claws in this. But who?' Lin bit her lower lip then she smiled.
'You know who?' I curled up an eyebrow.
'It's that wench, Margo.' Lin chuckled. 'She's trying to get back at me. Well, she just started a battle and I'll finish it.'
Lin took to her feet.
'Our interview isn't over.' I told her.
'It isn't but I have some revenge plans to make and by the way, don't make me look like some weak girl in this story. I'm so over it.' She catwalked out the door.
Great. The last interview went pretty swell.
Anna kept pushing her glasses close to her face and it irked the hell outta me.
'Can you stop doing that? I'm a woman like you.' I told her.
'I'm just nervous that's all,' She smiled, 'I haven't exactly met the author of a story before.'
I winked at her. 'Well, now you have.'
Anna leans in and whispers. 'Do you know how the story ends?'
I shake my head. 'I do not. I'm sorry.'
Anna leans back into her seat. 'We've got a long way ahead of us, don't we?'
'You all do. Writing character development is one thing the readers are yet to see.' I told her.
'Miss Hikari?' Anna pulls her chair closer.
'Yes?' I look up from my note. Anna walks to my seat and whispers into my ears. 'I think I know a way you can end the story.'
'Go ahead.'
\[Charlotte's POV\]
We were all ready to go to bed when Mikey pulled me to the hall.
'I need your help.' He whispered.
'Why are you whispering?' I found myself whispering too.
'Something weird happened. At first I thought it's normal but it isn't.' He said.
'Yeah?' I looked around to see if someone was watching. When there was none, I looked at him. 'Go on.'
'I can't use the bathroom. I think I'm constipated.' He whispered.
I went blank. 'Wait. What?'
Michael whispered again. 'I'm pretty serious. I ate a lot of things and there's a lot in there but I can't use the bathroom. You got some pills for stomach ache?'
I palmed my face. 'No.'
'Oh damn.' He exhaled softly.
'So you pulled me out of sleep to talk about ..' I exhaled softly and laughed. 'You know this is probably why Jack the Ripper started killing people because folks like you keep being annoying.'
I hit him on the shoulder and he swelled.
'Oh please. That doesn't even hurt.' I rolled my eyes and walked away.
On my way to the living room, I meet Levi and Jacob. They were not smiling.
'Is something wrong?' I asked.
'Kinda,' Levi takes my hand. 'Come on.'
'Where are we going?' I whispered as he led me downstairs.
'Somewhere.' Jacob said.
We got to the staircase. It's a long way down.
'Come on.' Levi told me.
I walked into his embrace and he lifted me into his arms in a bridal style.
'How the heck did he get here?' Jacob hissed.
'Who?' I looked at Levi as we descended the steps.
We got to the floor. The first living room was to the left.
Levi is about to reply when the Mahogany door is opened ajar.
'Come on in.' A masculine voice said. Wait. I'd know that voice even in my sleep. That's Malcolm. How did he get here?
I looked at Levi and he nodded.
'Let's hear what he has to say.' He said.
We got into the room and the door closed behind us.
'How did you get here?' Jacob asked impatiently. 'Aren't you aware that this is breaking and entering? This is someone's house.'
Malcolm chuckled, leaning his head back on the swivel chair. 'Breaking and entering? Kids, this is a safehouse. Your friend, Margo, doesn't know that. Well her father does. The FBI runs this place.'
'What?' I gasped.
'Isn't it yet time you put her down?' Malcolm pointed at me in Levi's arms.
Levi held me close. 'No.'
'Well, soothe yourself.' He shrugged carelessly.
'For an FBI agent, you sure are clumsy using such a place for a safehouse. Aren't you aware anyone can just walk in here?' Jacob crossed his arms over his chest.
Malcolm smiles. 'I'm well aware.'
'And if any of our friends walks in here now?' Jacob scoffed as he asked.
Malcolm brought out a gun. 'That's easy. I'll shoot them.'
'What?!' I yelled.
Malcolm laughed uncontrollably. His fellow officers laughed too. 'Oh my God. The looks on your faces.'
'This isn't funny.' Levi hissed at him.
I take my time to scrutinize my environment. Four officers were seated behind 4 computers. 2 flanked the inner door while 3 sat on the couch beside Malcolm's chair in the centre of the room.
'Why are you here?' Jacob asked.
'I told you. This place is a safehouse. Mr Truth was nice enough to trust us with his life and his family's from Hide and Seek's Project Blood hound.' Malcolm explained.
'Project Bloodhound?' I was confused.
'You're not aware of this? I thought as the school's Director of Ceremonies, you'd be aware?' Malcolm smiled.
I shook my head. 'No.'
'Well, Project Bloodhound is the last Hide and Seek for the semester for Hide and Seek is out to an end.' Malcolm twirled in his seat.
'To an end? They're ending it?' Jacob asked.
'Yes.' Malcolm took to his feet.
'And how did you know this?' Jacob asked.
'I have an inside man. More like a woman.' He smiled.
'Nurse Aime?' I asked.
'Not my sister. She's not that close to power in Alan. I'm talking about someone whose family is power itself.' He walked to the inner door and knocked.
The door creaked open. I held my breath when she walked out.
'Charlotte?' Her eyes widened.
'Grandma.' Tears cloud my eyes and I pat Levi's arm to let me down.
'Ah ah. Not her. She's in WITSEC.' He said.
'Witness protection? Mrs Melbourne, what did you do?' Jacob put his hands over his head.
'Grandma.' My voice breaks and I approached her.
'Charlotte.' Levi called for me. He took my hands and squeezed tight.
'Don't worry. She isn't bad,' Malcolm smiled. 'Now, for our lady with so much power.'
Then he said something in German. I remember Adolph always telling it to Grace.
'Meine Leibe, you can come out now.' Malcolm turned to us and winked.
Jacob shook his head. 'No.'
The door creaked open and the officers immediately pulled out their guns.
'No. She's harmless.' Malcolm tells the officers guarding the door.
They put down their weapon and we all watched with bated breath as this "lady with power" stepped out. The first thing I notice is the chains around her ankles and the ones binding her hands.
'Anna.' Jacob whispered.
Malcolm put his arms around Anna. 'Lively , isn't she?'
Jacob yelled. 'Get your dirty hands off her!'
Malcolm scoffed. 'If I tell you her story, you'll know who's the one with the dirty hands here.'
'Anna, what's going on?' Levi asked.
Anna looked down. 'I went to them willingly.'
'And what did you tell them? What did you do?' My voice is breaking terribly and I'm crying.
Anna looks up, crying too. 'I told them the truth.'
Maclom walks up behind Anna. 'Ladies and gentlemen, you're looking at the successor of Alan or should I say Hide and Seek.'
'What?' I collapsed to my knees.
