Chapter 31 The Rogue Psycho
Calhoun's POV
I sprint out of the house, scolding myself inwardly for being so stupid and tactless because I saw someone earlier at the window and let it slip.
To believe they waited until I was gone before kidnapping Kristen.
What do they even want from her?
My heart flutters in my chest as images of Kristen being raped and murdered go through my head, causing havoc.
I'm not sure where I'm going, so I shift and let my wolf lead the way because he's more perceptive.
Kristen and her kidnappers haven't been seen in ten minutes.
Could it be that those men followed us down here so they could pick up where they left off? Those men I rescued Kristen from? Because she begged me not to kill them, and I spared their lives after severely punishing them.
Was she awake when they kidnapped her? She screamed and called out to me?
I feel like I'm on the verge of losing my mind just thinking about it because if a strand of hair from her head is touched, there will be a flow of blood and limbs will be severed from their bodies.
My wolf comes to a halt when he notices from a distance the back of a man carrying someone on his shoulder.
I take a closer look and realize it's my mate, Kristen.
Relief washes through me, but it's muffled by rage.
According to the rumours told about him, her kidnapper is eerily familiar. A frightening mask, 6'1 tall, and dressed entirely in black.
Jack The Rogue Psycho, fuck!
He comes to a halt in front of a rusted truck and casts a backward glance to see if anyone is following him.
Because of his mask, he can't see me and I doubt he can smell me either.
I've heard tales about him, about how strong he is, and about how some Alphas can't even stand up to him because of his dominance.
But I could care less. Something that belongs to me is in the bastard's possession. "My girl.'
When he opens the truck door to place an unconscious Kristen, I get up and leave my position.
"Now," I bark this order at my wolf and he charges at him.
Jack hurriedly shoves Kristen's into the truck, slams the door shut, and turns his attention my way after sensing my presence.
He transforms and begins lunging towards me as well when he notices my wolf charging at him.
We collide and end up on the floor together; his wolf tries to bite me, but my wolf is faster to avoid.
He attacks me once more, and we battle fiercely. He's quick, and his wolf is considerably larger than mine for a regular rogue.
We continue to struggle, colliding into trees and tearing through shrubs.
The fight goes on, and his wolf gets bruised while mine doesn't, because I'm not an Alpha for nothing.
When he is spent from the fight, he collapses to the ground, wounded and panting, his tongue hanging out. I am the first to revert to my human form, and I take a short walk to where his weak wolf is lying. "It is you, the infamous Jack the Rogue Psycho," I grit out.
He doesn't even move, simply lies there bleeding from his body because my wolf gave him enough injuries. "I'll make you pay for the devastation you've caused in families and for attempting to kidnap my mate," I growl. Suddenly, he raises his head, and everything goes in a blur as he bites me hard and rushes into a separate path through the bush. The bite of his wolf sends pain through my entire body. I groan aloud, clutching my stomach, but I don't stay. Kristen is still out there in Jack's truck, and I'm not sure if he's taking another route back, escape with Kristen as he planned.
I race back to where he left his truck, which is still there.
Kristen, thankfully, is still inside.
I'm more concerned about her than about my suffering right now, so I quickly open the truck, take her out, carry her in my arms, and make the long walk back to the cottage.
I gently placed her on the bed. Thank goodness she's still sleeping and wasn't awake enough to notice anything. But it's no longer safe here, especially with Jack the Rogue Psycho lurking around.
But I can't take Kristen back in this state. On the other hand, I was bitten by Jack, the insane rogue, and I won't be able to heal until tomorrow.
Pushing my fingers through my hair, I heave out a big puff of breath. So much happened in such little time.
I can't even leave Kristen alone in this room; I have to stay until she wakes up, since the possibilities of Jack returning are extremely high.
I cast a peek at Kristen, who is still sleeping; only God knows what would have occurred if I hadn't rushed to her aid.
Jack does kidnap women, and when I return to my pack, I'll make sure we trace him down to the basement where he has young women imprisoned.
Kristen sighs and moves to the other side of the bed, refocusing my attention on her.
She appears troubled even in her sleep, and I know it's because she's terrified of her mother.
I missed roughly twenty-three phone calls from Natalie. A part of me knows she's devastated, possibly going insane as a result
of both my and Kristen's disappearance, but I've taken the decision to end things between the two of us.
I still can't believe how quickly I fell for Kristen. There has been a lot that has happened in the last nine days.
She's mine to keep.
