Chapter 221 Reclaiming His Place

Chapter 221 Reclaiming His Place

With Calhoun back, the pack feels more alive. People are taking their duties seriously, and we've resumed the search for Bruce's murderer. But Calhoun is different now, just half the size he used to be. His clothes hang loose, showing the toll of the curse.
Despite his changed appearance, Calhoun doesn't bother with new clothes. He dives into managing the pack, tirelessly addressing the chaos that unfolded during his three-month absence. A man on a mission, determined to make things right.
In the middle of all this, our one-year-old son, Aiden, doesn't recognize his father anymore. Calhoun's presence, comforting to me, confuses Aiden.
Trying to help Aiden understand, I say, "Look, Aiden, it's Daddy. He's been away for a while, but he's back now."
Calhoun, bending down, extends his arms to Aiden. But our son hesitates, eyeing him with curiosity and uncertainty. Calhoun smiles warmly, coaxing, "Hey there, little buddy. It's me, Daddy."
Aiden ignores him and runs into the arms of his nanny, Cynthia. A sad smile presses on Calhoun's face as he rises back to his feet.
"He'll come around, Calhoun. He's only a child," I offer a reassuring smile, stepping closer to him. I press a quick kiss to his cheek, hoping to convey comfort in that small gesture.
Calhoun nods, his gaze lingering on Aiden and Cynthia. "I know, Kristen. It's just a lot for him to take in after being away for so long."
Three days later, the truth about Bruce's killer hits us like a gut punch. Donovan, lurking among Bruce's trusted group, had a dark agenda, infiltrating our pack years ago with an ulterior motive aligned with a rival group.
In a swift and resolute move, Calhoun, fueled by anger and justice, instructs one of his men to execute Donovan the same way he killed Bruce, by ripping his heart out.
And he dies on that instant.
I don't even look away from this because I was present when he murdered a very important person to us.
However, Calhoun, burdened by the weight of loss, confides in me a few hours later, "I don't feel any relief. If anything, I feel worse. Killing Donovan doesn't bring Bruce back."
"Calhoun, it's okay. You did what needed to be done. It won't bring Bruce back, but it ensures that justice is served and protects our pack from further harm." With my voice offering comfort, I reassure him.
Calhoun, his expression heavy with sorrow, adds, "I thought vengeance would make it easier, but it doesn't."
I place a gentle hand on his shoulder, "Vengeance never brings real peace, Calhoun. But you've protected our pack, and that's what matters now."
Later that day, Calhoun and I go to Bruce's grave, feeling a heavy atmosphere around us. The stone marking his life stands as a silent reminder of the bond we once had.
Calhoun stands before the grave, taking a deep breath, preparing to speak. "Bruce," he starts, his voice full of sadness and determination, "I found Donovan, the one who took you away. He won't hurt anyone else."
I put my hand on Calhoun's shoulder, knowing the moment's weight, "We made sure Donovan paid for betraying you. I hope you can rest in peace now."
The wind rustles the leaves, adding a haunting sound to the solemn air. Calhoun continues, "You were like a brother, and what happened to you shouldn't have. We'll always remember you and honor your memory."
I look at Calhoun, seeing a mix of emotions in his eyes. "We faced challenges, but we're stronger now. The pack is united, and we won't forget your sacrifice.
Calhoun, still looking at the grave, whispers, "I wish you could see the changes, Bruce. Donovan is gone, and we're rebuilding. You will live on in every step we take."
In silence, we pay our respects, feeling a sense of closure.
The loss is heavy, but there's also a hint of healing.
Calhoun puts a small bunch of flowers on the grave, a symbolic gesture of remembrance.
"We won't forget you, Bruce," he says softly, the
promise carried by the wind.
Leaving the cemetery, Calhoun glances back one last
time. "Rest in peace, my brother."
With these words, we take our leave.
A week goes by, and Calhoun's once smaller form
regains its strong, towering presence. But it's not just his body that's transformed; there's something different in the way he carries himself.
During our lovemaking session, Calhoun's touch reflects both his newfound strength.
As I run my fingers over the fading scars on his arm,
while he's buried deep in my warmth, going really slow as if he's scared he'll hurt me.
I feel the need to acknowledge the challenges he's faced. What he suffered isn't what I'd wish to fall upon anyone. He's been through so much for his own
good. And I don't think I'd ever want to leave if more problems seep in, I am here to be with him for as long as possible.
"You've been through a lot," I say softly, my words carrying a sense of admiration.
Calhoun, his eyes full of affection, replies, "It was all worth it, Kristen. For you, for us."
In the silence that follows, his lips gently meets mine and he kisses me soundly in the mouth, before pulling back and going at a slow and steady pace.
My bump doesn't make things easy for us, so he's not resting his weight of me because of it.
"You've changed," I whisper, my observation lingering in the air.
His gaze, locked with mine, potrtays something a that goes beyond words. "The curse forced me to confront my deepest fears and weaknesses. I couldn't have overcome it without you prayers."
No word is uttered after this, just the sounds of Calhoun's groans and my breathy moans, and noise from sweaty skin slapping against the other.
"I love you," Calhoun murmurs, after releasing inside
of me. "And I love you," I reply and let him pull me into a light hug.
