Chapter 218 His Tragic Fate

Chapter 218 His Tragic Fate

Kristen's POV
Where is Alpha Calhoun?
The question keeps popping up and spreading within the pack.
Until I decide I've had enough, and so I called for a meeting with the council of elders.
"He's sick, okay!" I burst out, my patience exhausted, tears welling up in my eyes.
"What do you mean, Kristen?" Elder Festus inquires, concern etched across his face.
Taking a deep breath, I begin the painful revelation. " It's a curse. Calhoun is bedridden, reduced to a
skeleton. We've been trying to find a way to break it, but it's relentless."
Gregory, the ever present pain in the assinterjects, "A curse? Are you serious? This sounds like nonsense."
"It's the truth," I retort, frustration evident in my voice. "I've been trying to handle things, but it's not easy. The pack needs to know what we're dealing with.
Expressions of shock and disbelief rises through the council of elders.
Gregory scoffs, "A cursed Alpha? You expect us to believe that?"
Elder Adolphus, usually calm, leans forward, "
Kristen, how did this happen? What kind of curse are we talking about?"
As I speak, the weight of reality presses down on me, and I hold back sobs.
Gregory, still skeptical, mutters, "This is hard to believe. We need proof, Kristen."
I nod, understanding their skepticism, "I get it. But it's the truth. Calhoun is suffering, and I'm doing everything I can to find a solution."
Nana Joyce, unable to contain her frustration, facepalms, realizing that the secret is now out in the open.
"Elders! You know about this curse! How my husband murdered the werewitch and in her dying moments, she placed the curse on him. Something which led to his death, and Calhoun's father suffered the same fate but eventually broke out of it. Later, he got murdered."
Nana Joyce's words linger, reminding everyone of the family curse that has haunted the family for
generations.
And this hits them hard.
Elder Festus, with a serious expression, mumbles, "I thought we ended this curse when Calhoun's father got free. How did it come back?
"I don't know either," Nana Joyce speaks calmly. And the room grows quiet.
As everyone processes this even more.
I blink away my tears and let out a shuddered breath.
Gregory, once skeptical but now concerned, insists, " We must see Alpha Calhoun. We need proof of this curse."
Nana Joyce opposes, "You can't disturb him. The curse has left him bedridden, in a fragile state."
"We need to see Alpha Calhoun, to know how to
handle things ourselves. Since our Luna cannot do it all by herself," Gregory presses on.
"No," Nana Joyce interjects.
"Yes, you have no choice but to agree to this."
Gregory glares at Nana Joyce, and for a moment I
imagine Calhoun showing up and slamming him against the wall, for being such a pain in the ass. But I
know that's never happening.
"Fine, i'll take you to him," I speak up at last, wanting the argument to subside since it's giving me a
migraine.
In Nana Joyce's house, silence takes over the room as the elders lay eyes on Calhoun's motionless form.
They all break into a collective gasp.
Unable to bear the sight of my husband like that, I
turn away.
The once mighty Alpha, now reduced to a skeletal figure has brought so much shock to the elders.
Elder Adolphus, barely audible, murmurs, "I didn't grasp the severity of the curse. We must act swiftly to find a solution."
Gregory, visibly affected, adds, "This is worse than I thought. We need to call the pack doctors to check up on him. No more stupid rituals."
Various pack doctors file into the room, their expressions grim as they examine Calhoun's frail form. They exchange hushed words and somber glances before delivering the heartbreaking news.
"There's no alternative left. He doesn't have much time. A week or two at best," one doctor announces with a heavy sigh.
The words hang in the air, a crushing reality that I am
quick to reject.
"No! You're wrong! Calhoun will live!" I cry out, my voice a desperate plea against the Doctor's
confirmation.
Elders, their faces etched with pity, shake their heads, the weight of the situation pressing down on them. It becomes evident that despite my fervent denial, Calhoun's fate hangs by a thread.
"No, no. Calhoun cannot die. It's impossible. He's our Alpha, he'll live. No one gets to decide his fate, fuck this curse! Fuck everything!" I yell, breathing violently.
In one corner, Nana Joyce, a witness to the unraveling tragedy, softly cries.
Her tears are a sign that she's already accepting this fate.
Amidst the grief, my hurt is visible. "There has to be something we can do. Some way to save him," I implore, my eyes searching desperately for a glimmer of hope.
Elder Adolphus, his tone laced with sorrow, replies, "
We've exhausted all options, Kristen. The curse has
taken its toll, and it seems we can't defy its cruel grip.
"
As I struggle with the painful truth, Nana Joyce's soft cries grow higher.
"I've seen this curse before, and I couldn't save my husband. Now, it takes my grandson too," she murmurs, a voice heavy with the weight of past and present losses.
In tears, I rush to Calhoun's side and slips his bony fingers into my hand.
"Please wake up, Calhoun. Don't let the chains of
death bind you. You're our Alpha. You have so much
ahead of you. Wake up and prove everyone wrong!" I wail out loud, while holding onto his hand.
"Please don't die. I need you, Aiden needs you. Bruce
needs you to avenge his death," I sob even harder, with my shoulders shaking along with me.
Right on this instant, I feel the weight of someone's hand on my shoulder.
I tip my head up only to find Gregory, staring at me with pity for the first time since I have known him.
"You're hurting too much, go home and rest," he says quietly, with his eyes growing soft.
We lock gazes for some seconds until I break out of the stare exchange and clutch onto Calhoun's hand, with my heart threatening to tear right out of my
chest.
"Please don't die," I whisper.
