Chapter 216 Memories

Chapter 216 Memories

Kristen's POV
Weeks keep passing, and I'm stuck in a routine, caring for Calhoun, who stays still on the bed. When the pack asks, I lie, saying he's away for business, hiding the dark truth. The lies get heavier every day.
The useless ritual hangs over me like a dark cloud. Daily, I tend to Calhoun, silently begging the moon goddess for help. I'm scared. Will Calhoun end up like his grandfather? It's a scary thought, following me in everything I do.
Taking care of him becomes a routine, a desperate act of love against an unyielding curse. I change his clothes carefully, trying to bring a bit of normalcy to his unmoving body. He can only have liquid food, his mouth unable to move, only responding with blinks and closed eyes.
As the Greyhound pack's Luna, I live a double life. Outside, I pretend to enjoy parties, hiding the hard truth at home. The pack doesn't know about our tragedy.
Three months pass, no progress, and questions about Calhoun grow. The lies get tougher.
One day, cleaning Calhoun, my hands shake, and the towel falls. In that moment, the lies break, and I sob uncontrollably.
The man I love is now just skin and bones, a painful sight. The realization hits me hard, and I fall to the floor, tears streaming down my face.
In my grief, a flood of thoughts fills me. "How did we get here? The man I love, the leader of our pack, is just a shell now. What did I miss? Moon goddess, why did you leave us?"
The room echoes my pain, questions with no answers. The weight of responsibility might crush me. In this tough time, I wish for hope, a sign that our strength can beat the darkness.
Aiden is one year old now, and I'm not sure if he'll even recognize his father. The child I'm carrying is five months along. Bruce's murderer is still out there and maybe the men Calhoun sent are showing nonchalance because they don't see him.
Without Bruce around and unable to seek help from anyone, I take matters into my own hands, managing Calhoun's companies. I forge his handwriting and write letters with his fake signature. It's tough, but I try my best to keep things running smoothly, even though I know very little about business.
Friendship with my two most important females seem to have faded. Maddy attempts visits, but I'm not always available, so she eventually stops coming. Sapphire, once a friend, turned into an enemy. She moved in with Bruce's parents because she's five
months pregnant.
Loneliness takes hold at times. I pray for Calhoun to show up, looking healthy and telling me he isn't the man on the bed, that it's someone else. But deep down, I know it won't happen. There's a growing fear that I'll accept the reality that Calhoun will remain cursed until he dies. Then, I'll continue living this lie until the truth inevitably surfaces.
Sometimes at night, I am left questioning myself
along with my fears.
Can I really manage Calhoun's companies? My
knowledge about business is limited.
Bruce's absence is deeply felt, and I am going through
a challenging path alone.
Will my efforts be enough to maintain the facade?
Will Aiden grow up without recognizing his father? How will I explain Calhoun's absence to him? These questions linger, adding to the weight on my
shoulders.
I am too young to carry all these burdens alone.
Although it was wrong of Nana Joyce to free my mother from prison, but now it's start to sink in why she did that. She wanted me to be free so my mother could bear the burdens herself.
And search for Bruce's murderer fuels my frustration.
Will justice ever be served?
Are Calhoun's men genuinely looking for answers?
The lack of progress intensifies my worry and leaves me grappling with uncertainty.
The new life growing within me adds to my distress.
What kind of world am I bringing my child into?
Will they ever know their father?
The responsibilities of motherhood coupled with the burden of deceit feels overwhelming.
Can I continue denying the harsh reality? Living this
lie feels like a ticking time bomb. Because there'll be a day the truth will eventually reveal itself.
Will Calhoun ever break free from this curse? I miss
as tears cloud my vision.
Staring at his side of the bed brings an ache to my
heart, because I am reminded of the times he made love to me passionately. It's only like a memory now. The big house used to be full of Calhoun's presence. Now, it's empty, and I feel his absence everywhere. Each room, every corner, reminds me of what we had. Trying to hold on to his memory, I even use his toothbrush, hoping to feel close to him. Nighttime becomes a painful routine. I wear his
clothes, hoping to catch a bit of his scent. It's like trying to hold onto something slipping away. The bed, where we once laughed and made promises, now
feels cold and lonely.
Loneliness is like a sharp pain in my throat. The mansion, once lively, now emphasizes the emptiness left by Calhoun's curse. The sounds of laughter are gone, replaced by the echoes of my footsteps, highlighting how much I miss him.
Calhoun's curse has not only paralyzed him but has
messed up my whole life. The love we had is now like a dying flower, and I'm left dealing with what's left of
our life together. This house is both a safe place and a prison, full of memories that cut through his absence.
At night, lying in his clothes, the weight of his curse feels heavy. Knowing I'm alone, with just memories for company, makes the ache in my chest even stronger. The mansion, with its grand look, hides the truth that I'm on my own, stuck in a curse that won't
let go.
