Chapter 209 Grief
Chapter 209 Grief
Calhoun's POV
I walk to where they've laid Bruce, covered, a somber heaviness in the air. "You sure?" the middle-aged man cast me an uncertain look.
"Yes," I reply, my jaw tight with determination. Already, my heart weaves with the threads of pain.
The man uncovers Bruce's face, unveiling my best friend's lifeless form. My heart tightens, a sharp ache in my chest. Bruce appears serene, as if sleep has claimed him, but the stillness tells a different story.
Memories flood my mind. Laughter echoes through time, struggles that we shared shared, and a bond we forged in the hard times of life. We were brothers
from different families, and now I'm left to confront the stark reality of his absence.
And it all happened because of the wedding when a stranger approached Bruce, and the scene replays in my mind like a haunting film. The man, who was obviously on a disguise, reached into Bruce's chest, ripping out his heart and throwing it in his wife's face. While my best friend crumpled to the floor. Lifeless.
The pain now is a relentless tide, crashing over me. Each heavy breath I release, reminds me of the weight of our shared past. We faced the world together, but now, I stand alone, surrounded by the memories we shared, both good and bad and the struggles we overcame as an Alpha and his beta.
I recall the first time Bruce and I met as young boys, the mischievous adventures, the late-night
swimming under the moonlit sky. He was my
confidant, a pillar of strength. The bond we shared was unspoken but profound.
As I stand beside Bruce's lifeless body, I struggle with the harsh truth that life in our pack has been shattered.
Grief wraps around me like a suffocating chokehold. The pain is not just for the loss of a beta but for the void left in my soul. The Alpha, once whole, now feels incomplete without his beta.
I close my eyes, attempting to shut out the present and sink into the past. But the images at the black wedding still torments my mind and the pain deepens. The raw ache in my chest is unable to go
away.
I remember the times Bruce stood by me, a loyal companion in the face of adversity. His loyalty was unwavering, a bond forged through countless
challenges. Now, the absence is a silence that reverberates through my whole being.
In the quiet room, Bruce's presence lingers. The air feels heavy with the weight of our shared history. I reach out, almost expecting him to nudge me
playfully as he used to.
The silence is deafening, and the reality settles in.
Bruce is gone, and my life is forever changed.
As Alpha, I must lead through the pain, but in this moment, the burden is heavier than the strength I thought I possessed.
Bruce absence is greatly felt. The whole place don't feel the same anymore because we grew up in this
walls.
He fucking bought a mansion for him and Sapphire
and talked about how they'd have a ton of kids that would pass for a football team, since they were both sex addicts and couldn't get enough of each other.
But now, he's gone.
Bruce's mother rushes into the room, her eyes
widening at the sight of her son's lifeless form. She breaks into tears, her grief echoing through the room.
"I can't believe he's gone!" She's choking on her sobs and I just hold my breath.
Bruce was their only surviving son.
The father, attempting to console her, places a trembling hand on her shoulder.
"We'll get through this, Margaret. We'll find the murder.
And at this, I stand aside with a grave expression.
Wanting to give them space to mour their son, because he was more to them than he was to me.
"I promise you, we'll get to the bottom of this. The man did this to Bruce will face justice. My men and I won't rest until we find him," I assure them.
Bruce's mother, still overwhelmed by grief, looks up at me with tear-filled eyes.
"Justice... Our boy didn't deserve this," her voice
trembles.
I nod solemnly, a steely determination in my gaze.
"He didn't. And we won't rest until the one
responsible pays for what they've done. The Greyhound pack stands together in this time of sorrow." I add and cast another glance at Bruce.
I gulp down the huge lump stuck within my throat.
He was so euphoric this morning, unbeknownst it was his last day among the living.
I approach Sapphire in her room, the weight of sorrow heavy in the air. Her tear-streaked face and puffy eyes bear witness to the grief that has consumed her. She clings to the remnants of her
wedding dress stained with Bruce's dried blood, a cruel reminder of the tragedy that unfolded on what was supposed to be a joyous day. "Sapphire," I call out, the words catching in my
throat. Releasing a deep breath, I gather the strength to address her in this moment of profound sorrow.
She halts her weeping momentarily, casting a swift, backward glance. Recognition flickers in her eyes, and then, the weight of her grief drags her back into a sea
of tears.
"I'm so sorry, Sapphire," I say, completely letting
what she did to my wife slide, because she's in so much pain.
Her wails intensify, the sound echoing through the room, a symphony of anguish.
"Why, Calhoun? Why did this happen? He was my
husband for just a few hours!" Sapphire screams through sobs.
And my heart aches for her, witnessing the pain
etched across her face. I struggle to find words that could provide even a tad of comfort.
"I can't comprehend the pain you're going through. Bruce was taken from us in the most horrific way, and
I'm sorry you had to witness such a tragedy on what should have been the happiest day of your life," I
breathe out, holding her gaze because I feel too bad for her.
Sapphire's cries become desperate, her grief pouring out in an agonizing plea.
"Bring him back, Calhoun! Please, I beg you! Bring
Bruce back!" She pleads like she's losing her mind. And I can tell my eyes reflect my own torment. I know
the harsh reality. No amount of Alpha power can undo what has been done. It's not like I have some magic to resurrect him from the dead.
"I wish I could, Sapphire. I truly do. But the one who
did this is going to pay for it. I promise you that. We'll find justice for Bruce," I tell Sapphire gently.
In the midst of her despair, Sapphire looks up, her
eyes locking onto mine.
"Help me through this, Calhoun. I can't believe I
turned a widow on my wedding day! I don't know how to go on without him." She implores. Burdened by my own grief, I nod with determination.
"You won't be alone, Sapphire. We'll skim this darkness together. As your Alpha and his best friend, will be your support, and I'll stand by you every step of the way. Bruce's memory will live on, and we'll make sure he didn't die in vain," I make this known to her, meaning every word.
