Chapter 207 Black Wedding (II)
Chapter 207 Black Wedding (II)
Calhoun's POV
No, this isn't happening.
Someone didn't just come in here to kill my beta right under my gaze. In front of everyone. In front of his bride.
Fuuuuuuck!
My breathing is getting sharp and aberrant as I keep staring at my best friend.
Sapphire, still on the ground next to Bruce's lifeless form, is engulfed in grief.
Her eyes tearful and red as she cries like she's going through the fate of death.
Kristen and Aiden are okay, but my heartache is weighing me down.
Bruce was happy he'd get to spend his life with a woman who he never expected himself to fall in love with. He was glad he would be a father.
He thanked me for sponsoring the wedding, hugged me tightly and called me his brother.
I helped him do the buttons on his wrists, because he was having a hard time getting them right.
We laughed over this, and he pleaded with me to forgive Nana Joyce, even though I would be weary of her. He was goofy throughout. And broke into this stupid sheepish grin because he fantasized about
breaking the bed when getting intimate with his bride at night.
I can't believe he lived for 32 years, only to get killed by someone on his own wedding a day. A day which is supposed to be the happiest day of his life.
"No! This can't be real! Bruce, please wake up!" Her desperate pleas are met with silence, the reality of the situation sinking in with weight.
I feel my body dropping next to Bruce, and more tears well up in my eyes, clouding my vision as I clench my jaw so tight. I fight against the urge to let th tears flow because all I can think of right now, is revenge.
Whoever did this has been an enemy of my beta, and he decided to strike today and ruin the day. Cause me and mostly Sapphire grief.
Blood is still gushing from the hole in Bruce's chest, creating a little pool around us and staining more of Sapphire's wedding dress.
"Stay with me, Bruce. This can't be happening," she whispers, her voice a raw mixture of grief and disbelief. Her hands shaking as she tenderly touched his lifeless face.
And I shut my eyes tightly in their sockets, too pained to take in more of it.
While Sapphire's heart-wrenching cries fills up the air.
I open my eyes just in time to see Kristen and Maddy next to Sapphire, wailing and trying to pull her away from Bruce, because she's losing her mind. But it's to no avail.
She clutches onto Bruce's lifeless body as if willing life back into him, "Bruce, please, wake up! Don't leave me," she sobs, her words a heartbreaking plea that resonates through the hall.
People are even too shaken to leave.
"Alpha Calhoun, we couldn't find the him. He
disappeared without any trace," the guards return
with grim expressions.
Upon hearing this, all my sorrow immediately gets
switched up with anger and determination.
"Spread the word, find him at all costs. No one rests
until he's brought alive in chains."
"Yes, Alpha Calhoun," they chorus and immediately
leave.
Meanwhile, Kristen has given up trying to take Sapphire away from Bruce's body. She's silently weeping, making her small shoulders shake along
with her.
Sapphire, still cradling Bruce's lifeless body, looks up at me with tear-streaked eyes. "Why would anyone do this, Calhoun? He was so happy, we were so happy." And I can't even come up with any response, because I struggle to find the right words and end up saying silent since nothing I can say will bring Bruce back.
He's dead. Gone.
Bruce who has always been the light of an atmosphere, got his heart ripped out of his chest, on his wedding day.
I thought nothing could go wrong today. I ensured
men secured the whole place, only to have a stranger confidently walk in, beckon on my beta to come closer, and then murdered him in front of everyone.
The more I stare at his lifeless body, the more hurt I get.
Bruce is gone and there's no way to get him back. "Don't leave me, please!" Sapphires cries fills the air as she puts her head on Bruce's chest.
Later that evening, I call the attention of more men to
find Bruce's murderer, since I have been unable to rest, as the scene keeps playing in my head, driving
me nuts.
"Listen up, everyone. I need more eyes, more ears. Gather information on every person who was near Bruce during the wedding. Find out who did this, bring them to me so I can serve them death as their
penalty."
A murmur of agreements spread through at my command. And it's not just enough for me.
"I want details, where they were, who they talked to,
anything that seems off. We leave no stone unturned," I emphasize on these words. "Alpha, we'll get to the bottom of this. No one gets
away with harming our own," someone replies. And I just drop in my seat without even knowing it.
My beta.
I can't believe he's not here anymore. He was the one
to always do the speaking before anyone else in times
like this. Except he's the one who fucking got murdered. Knowing that he's gone and feeling is absence is
enough to make me repeatedly slam my fist into a nearby wall, but I refrain from doing so.
My heart clenches so tightly in my chest, and unable
to contain it, I slam my fist on the desk, startling
them all.
"You're dismissed!" I yell like a crazed person, and
they hurry out.
