Chapter 188 Nothing Could Ever Go Wrong?
Kristen's POV
"What are you doing?" Sapphire has this unsure look on her face as she stares at me. I drove her all the way down here a few minutes ago. And the place is already set up for the date, just the way I was told by Bruce.
"Just relax, friend," I assure her with a friendly smile, before jabbing my shoulder against hers, to make her feel at ease.
"Is this a date?" Sapphire has her head swinging in different angles and directions. Bruce really outdid himself on this one. Renting the entire expensive diner just for tonight, so he could get some alone time with her.
"Yes, for me and Calhoun. And I want you to be present too," I answer at last, schooling my face into a straight expression so she won't suspect anything just yet.
"Do you feel that bad for me?" Sapphire has a dull facade this time, totally getting the wrong idea of everything.
"No, not at all. You just need to be here tonight. This place is already fancy as it is," I flip her long hair away from her shoulder.
"Fine," Sapphire still looks unhappy, but she slides into the chair and puts her handbag on top of the table.
"Why aren't you sitting?" she asks because I am still standing.
"I'll be right back," with this, I don't wait to hear from her anymore as I quickly walk away from the table.
Bruce is pacing to and fro in front of the male restroom when I get there.
"Is she here?" He looks flushed like the way I saw him earlier today, except his hair is nicely groomed and he's even wearing a sweet-smelling musk.
"Yes," I respond at last.
"Okay," He puffs a breath and rubs his palms together as if preparing himself for an interview.
"Remember what I told you, be on your best
behavior, and don't hurt her feelings," I remind my husband's beta with a serious expression. And a quick flashback hits my mind from the first night I saw Bruce, down to the wedding with my mom the following day where he thought I was trying to ruin it all. And then everything that had transpired over the past few years, his prep talk after mom tried to commit suicide by drowning, until the time he rescued me from suffering worse tortures from my
mom.
So much has happened, because he's Calhoun's Beta, I get to see him every day. And now, he's using my help to get closer to my friend whom he impregnated.
"Do you hear me?" I ask while biting back a smile and upon realizing he's yet to give me an answer.
"Yes, Luna. I won't hurt her," Bruce gives me a quick nod.
"Good, you can take it from here. I've done my party already," I give his shoulder a little go-ahead pat.
Bruce mutters his words of thanks and makes his way out. While I wait until he goes to meet my best friend before I walk out.
But I don't leave. Instead, I stand aside and watch the scene unfolding in front of me.
Sapphire seems shocked at first upon seeing Bruce before anger takes over her expression.
Upset, she tries to leave but Bruce chases after her and grabs her wrist.
I can feel a broad smile hitting my face at this.
Who would ever think my best friend and my husband's beta would get involved like this?
Sapphire looks mad, she's close to yelling at Bruce while he keeps trying to calm her down.
And finally, she gives in and lets Bruce lead her to the table.
I sigh with relief because this is not a bad start at all. They're going to have a talk about the baby and then decide how to plan things from then on.
The thunder cracks coming is enough to give out that there'd be a downpour. Heat season is near, and it's during the time all the males get hornier than usual, something which means Calhoun would want to have sex with me every single day.
"I never knew you to be such a meddler," the said person's voice rings out.
"Calhoun, what are you doing here?" I am utterly
surprised to see him here when what I only did was to tell him about Bruce's date plans.
"What else would I be doing here if it's not to come
see my wife?" My husband breaks into a huge boyish beautiful grin as he takes long strides while heading in my direction.
Times like this remind me of how hard I fell for him
in the beginning. Is it possible to fall deeper in love with someone each time you see them? We already have a son and another child is on the way, but everything is still so fresh with Calhoun.
"From organizing feasts, holding meetings, setting
up dates for my beta and your best friend," he closes the space between us and grabs my chin gently, his eyes dancing with amusement.
It sucks that I am still not reaching his height upon
the heels I am wearing, so I tip my head higher and
kiss him soundly in the mouth. Totally forgetting Sapphire and Bruce for a second.
"And Aiden?" I ask Calhoun after our lips locking
moments.
"He's with Nana Joyce," The corners of his mouth
twitches as he puts his arm around me and holds me close to his warm, big body.
"You went out of your way to make things work for
them," Calhoun gestures at Bruce and Sapphire with his free hand.
"She is my best friend, I don't want to see her hurt," I
explain.
"From the look of things, it's not the sex which kept
them together," Calhoun has a thoughtful look spreading on his face from this.
"How do you know?" I stare at him cautiously.
"Bruce has feelings for Sapphire and he's aware, but he's just scared of admitting it because he thinks she'll take him for granted," he explains carefully, and this gives out that he knows his beta too well.
"So you think this baby will draw them closer?" My hand is already at his back because he's still holding my shoulders protectively.
"Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what they both want,
"Calhoun seems to be in a good mood tonight.
"You're making sense, husband," I smile openly,
upon believing nothing else can go wrong tonight.
Calhoun kisses the side of my head and then releases a satisfied sigh.
"Hopefully nothing gets in our way anymore, we
deserve to live in peace, don't you think," he tells me. And this makes my heart swell in my chest.
Because we're mates, we think alike sometimes. "You, me, Aiden, and our baby on the way," Calhoun squeezes my shoulder lightly, giving me comfort. He's such a good husband. With his flaws and all. I can never ask for anything else.
"We'll be fine, Calhoun. You don't need to worry too much," I press my body tighter into his. "But the nightmare you had.." he's talking when I cut
him short because I don't want to even recall that horrible dream.
"It's all over now.." I rasp out.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Calhoun asks with
concern.
But a huge frown hits my face upon realizing his voice
is changing.
"What happened to your voice?" A shudder runs through me as I ask this.
"What do you mean?" His voice gets even deeper.
This time, I disengage my body from Calhoun to take a closer look at his face.
Only to be silenced by shock.
Because it's not Calhoun staring back at me anymore.
It's Theodore!
