Chapter 138 Game Of Alphas (III)

Chapter 138 Game Of Alphas (III)

Kristen's POV
Present.
The last time I joined a competition was during the pack run. Except that was different and nothing close to this. Game Of Alphas has to do with only Alpha's and even though I am trying to be bold here, I am trembling inwardly. Because I am here to break the rules tonight.
Just as the Alpha's are lining up to participate, and the seats for the audience are getting filled up, I notice Calhoun signaling his men to come forward.
They talk for some time, with Calhoun staring at me from time to time, with those eerily blue eyes of his. If I wasn't so upset with him, I would have appreciated his looks. But I am here against the rules, all because he called me an insensitive and insecure woman. The words still sting up to this very moment.
Calhoun still has his eyes on me as he speaks with his men.
I am wondering what he has up to his sleeves until Bruce leaves his side and approaches me with two men.
"My Luna," Calhoun's Beta, has a small smile playing on his lips. Something which I find irritating.
"I am not yet Luna, don't address me that way," I am quick to snap because he tends to be a sly person at times.
"Sorry, Kristen..." Bruce corrects himself, scratching the back of his head.
"Better," I throw my arms across my chest.
And Bruce has his eyes raised in their sockets.
"Woah, you seem really feisty tonight. Which is unusual."
All the contestants' seats are getting filled up and this is my chance to hurry before it gets too late.
Turning to Bruce, I grit out, "Why are you here?"
"To escort you home," he says as he nears my side, wearing that smile once more.
"Calhoun sent you?" A frown hits my face.
And Bruce nods.
"Go back and tell him I won't obey him tonight," I warn Bruce with bared fangs this time.
And Bruce snickers, clearly finding everything amusing at this point.
"My apologies but between the two of you, he's the one I will obey because he's my Alpha." Bruce reminds me in a firm tone as.
"I won't let you drag me away," I reply, hating Calhoun for doing this to me.
"No, I would never do that. I am here to escort you. And besides you need to take care of Aiden, hm?" Bruce ends this note with a wink.
"Aiden is in good hands," I rasp out as I push my hands through my pants pockets.
"Don't be so sure, Kristen. Aiden is Calhoun's son, which ultimately makes him next in line to be Alpha. He needs protection at all costs." Bruce reminds me as he stands in front of me, that snarky smirk still spreading across his face.
"Let me speak with Calhoun," I grit out.
"Too late, the game has already begun." Bruce flicks his fingers and steps out of the way for me to get a clearer picture of what's happening.
A wave of disappointment hits when I see that the game of Alphas has already begun, and Calhoun has taken his seat.
Cursing under my breath, I turn to face Bruce.
"His plan worked after all," I mutter.
"You're to be Calhoun's wife, do not try to outsmart him." Bruce shoots me a non-threatening smile.
Gritting my teeth, I walk past Bruce, hating the fact that I let him delay me.
As if sensing being watched, Calhoun lets his eyes meet mine, and the glare I send him is enough to make him loosen his tie a bit. He knows how mad I am right now.
And for a moment I pause to wonder if this is who I'll be, trying to be stubborn and impudent, and I won't go back to being the old, frail Kristen.
When they ring the bell for the first level of the game to begin, I
don't join the audience. I stead I stand in front with Bruce and Calhoun's men. Just like the way other Alphas have their men in
front too.
Over a hundred Alphas are here today and the chess game made them two per table.
The air is a bit thick with tension as the Alphas play chess, trying to check their level of wits and smartness. And Calhoun seemed way too relaxed in his seat. After all, he's been winning over the past few
years.
The game lasts for thirty minutes and I find myself in a tight spot because even if I am upset with Calhoun, I want him to win. But from the look on his face, it's an easy thing.
Fifty Alphas were immediately dropped because they lost to other Alphas in the game of wits. And I can feel relief cascading through me. All the female Alphas lost.
And Calhoun is a smart man, after all, he made Bruce distract me
because he was aware I would be unable to participate in the game. When I was only trying to prove I am capable of carrying out the
Luna's rite.
A gasp leaves my mouth when they change the sitting position of the remaining Alphas. The tables were cleared off and each Alpha was blindfolded by some men.
"What's going on?" I ask Bruce, as confusion stuns my brain.
"That's how things are done here in the East, Kristen," Bruce doesn't even look at me as he responds.
"Why are they blindfolding them?" The frown on my face is huge.
"Just watch," Bruce has a serious expression this time, "Although I'll advise you to keep your temper in check because you won't like this."
He adds.
"What do you mean?" I blink, puzzled.
"You'll see," he shoots me a quick smirk.
I suck harshly in my breath and return my gaze to the Alphas who are
tied like thieves. This is the second stage of the game, and the crowd are already in murmurs.
I blow out a quick breath as I massage my arm, wondering what the heck is going on.
Suddenly, there's a blackout that silences the whole place. And when the lights get restored, my mouth widens in horror.
Because the sight in front of me is a bit too much for me to take.
Half-naked females straddling each Alphas and giving them lap dances.
My eyes are nearly pulling out of their sockets and my jaw is still touching the floor.
What in the world is going on here?
Is this the Game of Alphas or a Mission to check the libido of Alphas?
My heart keeps skipping my chest until I let my eyes shift to my
mate.
And shit, he's not left out.
The girl straddling Calhoun is petite like me, save for the fact that
she has straightened black hair, and she isn't busty like me.
I take a hard hurtful gulp, wondering if Calhoun would touch her.
This is not how things are done in the West Game of Alphas.
Women? They never brought in any women.
But from the look of things, they're trying to turn these men on.
"I told you so," Bruce whispers into my ear.
"This is stupid, why can't he push her away?" I curl my fingers into
tight hard fists, and I can hear them cracking.
"It's a game after all. Would you rather have a man on him like that? "Bruce twitches a brow at me.
And I let out muted curse words in response.
"Gulp down your jealousy, Kristen. Calhoun has been doing this for years," Bruce has a harmless look on his face when he tells me this.
And I just get irked and exasperated even more.
"Will he touch her?" I inquire after swallowing hard. Bruce puts his fist on his mouth and chuckles.
"Worry about your husband winning, or else he will be denounced as
Alpha or Alpha," Bruce playfully jabs his shoulder against mine. "Fuck," I hiss under my breath because my emotions are affecting my mind right now. I've never been so frustrated before. "Try not to let your emotions get the best of you, Kristen. You have the Luna's rite in two days."
