Chapter 91

To say the last two classes went slowly was an understatement, but luckily Rya and I were in the same class last period and I noticed her staring so intensely at the clock I was surprised it wasn't burning holes by now. Our teacher was off sick and so Mr Wright had to substitute which was alright, he was one of the rare teachers who didn't hate my guts but rather left me alone to do me own thing.

I stared blankly down at the textbook as Mr Wright walked around the class. It wasn't dead silent, but it wasn't noisy either, people only muttered in small groups to gossip or share answers. Unfortunately for me, Rya was on the other side of the classroom because, in this class, we had a stupid seating plan and Mr Wright made us stick to that stupid seating plan for today.

I huffed, blowing a strand of hair away from my face. Despite Roman telling me how much he liked my normal hair, I still didn't have the courage to go au naturel, so I straightened it to death once more before curling it softly and tying it back with a cute white bandana my dad had bought me one day after work.

My mind subconsciously flickered to Roman. Yesterday as he dropped me back home, he said he was having a half day today so he could visit Skye at lunch. Apparently, all his relatives had left now, and she wanted his company to – and I quote, 'rant about how annoying they all were'. I couldn't blame the girl. Since the hospital started allowing her visitors, she must've been flocked with emotional hugs and motivational speeches. I'm sure the whole thing drove her insane.

I closed my eyes and tapped my pencil on the desk out of boredom. Just then, Mr Wright approached me.

"Sienna?" he asked kindly.

I looked up. "Hmm?"

He smiled softly, "D'you mind if I speak to you after class? It's quite important." Important? I didn't know what the hell could be so important coming from an English teacher unless I was now failing in that subject too. Oh god. Nevertheless, I nodded, and he smiled once more before departing.

I tried to get Rya's attention to tell her I'd be a little late to her exciting meet up with her admirer but the vibrations of my phone in my pocket caught my attention. I looked down at the contact name to see Roman and wondered whatever the hell he could want at this time knowing I was in class.

Pushing those thoughts aside, I carefully answered it, making sure Mr Wright couldn't see me and spoke, "Roman, I'm in class, I can't –"

"Sienna?" his voice was small, weak almost, like it was on the verge on shattering. Helpless. That's what it sounded. Helpless. Sheer vulnerability flooding through.

"Roman?" concern raised in my tone and my heart began to beat rapidly. No answer, all I could hear was his heavy breathing through the line as if he were trying to hold himself together.

He finally spoke.

"Sienna... Skye's collapsed.... And... And she's not breathing."
