Chapter 225 Rescue

Chapter 225 Rescue

Ronald, worried that something might happen to Adeline, ended up having Opal stay with her every day.

For three consecutive days, Rhiannon's condition took a sharp turn for the worse, and she might even need a third surgery. Every time Ronald called, his voice was filled with despair. Adeline knew he was hurting, but all she could do was offer a few words of comfort.

On another rainy day, Delta suddenly came down with a fever. Opal had no choice but to take her to the hospital, leaving Adeline home alone.

A sense of unease washed over Adeline. She stood by the window, watching the rain fall from the sky, the streetlights refracting into tiny fragments of light, and her heart grew heavier.

Her phone vibrated wildly. Thinking it was Ronald, she immediately answered. "Ronald!"

"Ms. Smith, it's Ulysses!" Ulysses's voice was urgent. "Are you still at the apartment? I need to talk to you about something. It's urgent."

"Yes, I'm home. What's wrong?"

"I can't explain over the phone. Let's talk in person." Ulysses hung up abruptly, leaving Adeline staring at her phone in confusion.

Ronald hadn't contacted her all day. She had tried calling him several times, but the calls wouldn't go through. Ronald had mentioned that the hospital they were at was a high-end private sanatorium in the suburbs, and the signal was occasionally spotty.

Adeline tried calling Ronald again.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable..."

The mechanical female voice repeated itself. Adeline hung up, frustrated. Maybe it was rainy there too, making the signal even worse?

About ten minutes later, the doorbell rang. Adeline hurried to the door and, after confirming it was Ulysses, opened it.

Ulysses was soaked to the bone, but he didn't seem to care. He immediately closed the door. "Can you get in touch with Ronald?"

Adeline shook her head. "He said the signal over there isn't very good."

"Look at this." He handed her his phone.

Adeline saw a text message on the screen.

[I took my daughter to the doctor today, and I think I saw your cousin, Ronald. Is this him?]

[Pinnacle Care Hospital is invested in by the Murphy family. Does he know? Didn't he publicly announce his girlfriend isn't Gemma? He brought his grandmother here for treatment. Does the Murphy family know?]

[I heard his grandmother is having a major surgery tomorrow morning. I also saw Gemma's mother this afternoon. Is everything really okay?]

"Who is this person?" Adeline asked urgently.

"A friend of mine in Valeria. He's met Ronald a few times before. Ronald probably doesn't remember him." Ulysses anxiously dialed Ronald's number again. "His phone is unreachable. I called the hospital, but they wouldn't help me find him. I think something is wrong."

"We're going to Valeria." Adeline said, turning to find her passport. "It's best if we can bring some bodyguards. I'll contact Elaine. We'll buy tickets now. You know where the hospital is, right?"

Ulysses stood there, instinctively asking, "Do we need to go?"

"Yes." Adeline nodded firmly. "It would be best if nothing is wrong. But if something has happened and we can't reach Ronald, then it will be a big problem."

An hour later, Adeline and Ulysses were at the airport. Adeline had been trying to contact Ronald the entire time, but to no avail. Ulysses had his friend go back to the hospital, but Rhiannon's room was now blocked off, and no one was allowed in. Since it was a foreign country, it was impossible to force their way in, and his friend didn't want to cause trouble.

"Still can't reach him?" Ulysses asked.

"His phone is off." Adeline's voice was cold. "Elaine will keep trying to contact him. And..." She looked up and saw Elaine rushing over, followed by several tall men. "Adeline, this is Maddox Lavien. You've met him before. He's also my... bodyguard. He'll be protecting you this time."

Maddox raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

"I've contacted a friend at the embassy, but he said it's best not to alert them. And Valeria's laws are very complicated. If we really get into a confrontation, Ronald might not be able to return to the country for a while," Elaine said, squeezing Adeline's hand. "Adeline, maybe it's better if Ulysses and the others go. You should stay."

"I'm worried." Adeline said, leaning in and lowering her voice. "If those people are really trying to harm Ms. Stewart, my presence could be a distraction." She touched the necklace around her neck, where a fake safe deposit box key hung. She wasn't sure what the Murphy family was planning, but it was definitely related to the pink diamond. A one-hundred-carat pink diamond was enough for them to make a huge profit. If they could get their hands on Rhiannon, it wasn't impossible that they would force Ronald to give up some of his shares.

The thought of these possibilities made Adeline's heart tremble, but she still smiled at Elaine. "We can only be at ease if you're in charge of Opulent Treasures. We're counting on you."

"You're really starting to sound like Mrs. Williams." Elaine sighed helplessly. "Alright, I'll hold down the fort in Avalonia. Go and come back quickly. And don't get into a confrontation with them abroad, you hear me?"

Adeline nodded firmly, then turned and entered the departure lounge.

As the plane took off, Adeline watched the city shrink below, her heart filled with unease. She had tried to contact Ronald again before takeoff, but there was still no response.

Ulysses sensed her nervousness and tried to comfort her. "Maybe we're just overreacting. Maybe it's just bad weather in Valeria, and there's no signal. Or maybe Ronald's phone is broken."

Adeline nodded. "I hope so." But in her heart, she knew that wasn't it.

At one in the morning, the plane landed. Adeline and Ulysses immediately took a car to the mountain villa where Pinnacle Care Hospital was located.

Seeing the brightly lit building with people coming and going, Adeline was a little surprised.

Maddox parked the car on the side. "I'll go ask." He hurried off and returned five minutes later, beaming. "We're in luck. There was a multi-car pile-up on a nearby highway, and a bus overturned. This is the closest hospital, so all the injured were brought here." As he spoke, he wrapped a bandage he had found somewhere around his left eye. "Now is the perfect time to sneak in."

Before Adeline could react, Maddox's bodyguards had already started their disguise. Some were groaning as if they were seriously injured.

And so, Adeline, supporting a moaning Ulysses, entered Pinnacle Care Hospital. The lobby was crowded with injured people, and doctors and nurses were running around.

Someone shouted, "The third-floor VIP ward is closed! Send anyone who needs to be admitted to another hospital, now!"

Adeline and Ulysses exchanged a glance. Avoiding the surveillance cameras, they carefully made their way towards the stairs.

Rhiannon must be in a VIP room on the third floor
