Chapter 64 : A Dangerous Mission 1

It didn't take long for Herman and his new partner to find what they were looking for. And in no time, he found himself crouched on the other side of the iron fence, securing the building he was looking for.

The place was located at the top of the hills of the small town in which they found themselves, far away from the neighboring buildings and the public streets, completely secluded and almost hidden from the public eye. But although the iron fence that appeared between the bushes seemed to secure an old abandoned facility, when he got closer and examined the lack of rust on its surface, it really showed what was hidden on the other side of the barrier.

"This is it," he panted through the cold night air, his eyes scanning the partially visible building in the distance.

Jacob stared at the device in Herman's hand, a flickering red dot marking the location, telling them that this was exactly where they were headed. "I thought you said this was a factory? I think it looks more like an old warehouse."

It certainly looked that way, Herman admitted as his eyes continued to scan the front of the building, now unsure of what he had found. The profile created under the name Black Mold Ltd., identified them as a manufacturer of parts for high-tech products. So he expected to see something resembling a modern looking factory building - or at least something much more luxurious than this. But right now he was standing in front of an old building, which at first glance looked half-obsolete, so he was sure that even if someone managed to find this place, it would look like a disused old building to the layman's eye. But he knew there was something more behind the facade.

"We need to get closer and find a way in," he whispered to his partner, who then expertly used his tools to create a small gap in the fence, allowing them to crawl into the interior and find a closer hiding place where they could better observe the surroundings.

Completely hidden behind the old trucks parked in the parking lot, there wasn't much of an obstacle blocking their view now, so the two of them could see through the false front.

"Alright, now I think we're in the right place," Jacob grumbled in a low voice, confirming what he saw with his own eyes.

On the other side of the barrier of the chain-link fence and the big old trucks, several expensive cars and black vans were parked in the lot, with several people in black suits walking back and forth between the cars, constantly surveying the area. And it wasn't hard to tell that underneath their fancy suits, each man had a gun or pistol hidden for protection.

When they finally took a closer look at the front of the building, they confirmed that the first impression they had gotten earlier was just a trick to hide the real front. The faded paint on the brick walls seemed to be done mostly on purpose to make it look like an older building than it actually was. The closed structure of the building made it look like an abandoned warehouse if it weren't for the sound of machinery coming from inside and the movement that occasionally appeared through the windows on the side.

Jacob muttered something about finding a way in to see what was going on behind the walls as he steadied himself on the ground. His hand was ready to reach for the gun he had tucked under his jacket while Herman scanned the building.

Herman soon realized that they couldn't possibly enter through the main entrance in the center. The door was wide open, and several people were constantly going in and out of the hallway, giving enough indication that there was activity inside, but not enough to indicate what it was. And it was the fact that the guards were gathered not too far from the entrance that made Herman think twice about his next move.

"There must be a way to get in," he grunted inwardly, thinking aloud as his eyes continued to scan the front.

And just then, the loud sound of a door opening roughly caught his attention, as well as Jacob's alert senses, causing both of them to turn their heads toward the source of the sound, just in time to see a man in dusty dark gray clothing emerge from a smaller doorway on the other side of the building. As the man walked toward one of the trucks, in the few seconds before the door slammed shut, Herman's eyes caught a glimpse of the long hallway inside before it was finally hidden by a large steel door. The gentle nudge Jacob gave him on his back let him know that the man had seen them, too.

"Service door," Herman whispered to his partner, nodding firmly with an understanding look.

They had found the entrance. They waited a few moments for the opportunity to move forward when another man came into view, appearing as he walked toward the door.

"There's no point to stop now, right?" Herman sighed as he turned to Jacob and saw that the man was putting a silencer on his weapon. Jacob quickly responded by nodding his head and pointing in the direction of their path as he said.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you."

The two moved quickly in the shadows right behind the unconscious man as he reached the door and swiped the key card carelessly before entering. While Jacob deftly caught the door as it closed and slipped through the gap, Herman trailing behind. They continued to move stealthily through the dark hallways inside, making sure to remain cautious and hidden from surveillance or security cameras. As they got closer to the source of the activity inside the building, the voices became clearer as they reached the next opening where everything was finally revealed.

They silently observed what was going on, confirming the presence of some heavy machinery inside with their own eyes as they crouched behind some wooden crates and metal shelves. Everything was at work and everyone was in motion. Though what they saw was not the same as what they said they were working on.

"Oh, they're making something, all right," Jacob grumbled, shaking his head as he tightened his grip on his weapon.

"Now we know why they had those guards outside."
