Chapter 78 Bed and Breakfast
Alessias pov
I wake up abruptly and look around . I seem to be in a quaint room with simple antique furniture and a white soft fluffy comforter . I hear Alex's muffled voice and Lucas by the door .Sighing I rise walking into the bathroom first to wash my face .The bathroom is done up nicely in white and brown tiles I don't have time to admire the accessories though . I come out and I walk towards the door pushing it open slightly as they both turn around to face me pausing mid air in their conversation .
Luca is looking at me with concern “ how are you Alessia?”
I smile at him hoping to soothe his fears somewhat “ I am okay Luca”
Alex's eyes are on me he watches me not with fear or even doubt buy with a fire that warms my heart . He drags me to his side giving me a kiss on my forehead “Did you sleep well ?”
I give him a small shy smile “Yes Alex, I feel really good “ lifting my chin I face him squarely . Luca coughs slightly interrupting the moment “Alex since the text is not dire you can attend to it tomorrow let me head to bed”
Alex nods “its just a security sweep update from Anto ,Thats fine good night to you”
“Good night Luca” I whisper softly he nods walking to the door facing ours he knocks gently and Angelica opens the door . I watch as her and Luca exchange a soft smile .Something has changed between them but I don’t have time right now to pinpoint what it is exactly . Angelica probably feels my curious eyes on her ,her grey eyes meet mine as she stands in the doorway of the room still wearing her blue dress from the journey waiting for Luca to cross the door threshold. Her arms wrapped around herself she gives me a small nod and I tilt my head in response then return my gaze to Alex . “This place looks old and rustic but the bed is super comfortable”
I take in a deep breath the air smells of cinnamon , earth and something deeper . Something that reminds me of the scrolls and the guide . Old and ancient .
“Yes” Alex says calmly “It seems to have been built a long time ago as a half way house for those heading to the coven”
My stomach twists as I recall where we are heading to . “Does the owner know ?I ask facing him
Alex shrugs “I didn't tell him anything and I doubt if the guide did”
I hear steps padding up and I turn to the stairs as the guide appears on the first floor with his hood down . The soft light catches his long auburn hair , the sharp edges of his jaw , and the paleness of his skin like he never ever gets sunlight at all. I shiver . He reminds me a bit of a vampire .
“Its a half way house for those allowed to enter La casa , not all travelers find this bed and breakfast its cloaked” He adds slowly
I stare at him in silence ,Great the owner is probably magic and aware of me as well. My throat tightens all of a sudden as if the air has become thick . I gulp suddenly very aware of the fact that not only do La Casa know I am in Mezza they probably already know we are on the way and are inviting us to come to them . Is that bad or good ?
Alex's hand slides to my back
My tether
Grounding me
Warming me
Protecting me
His palm steadies my tremble's. I lean in to him for a moment needing his strength now more than anything. “We are leaving at the crack of dawn” Alex tells him firmly .The guide tilts his head in agreement “Your wish is my command Signore” he replied , then he mumbles quieter , almost as if he is talking to myself “La casa Already know we are here anyway”
Alex mutters a curse under his breath his shoulders tensing .A sharp shiver crawls up my spine Looking away I turn towards the only window in the hallway . I can see the tops of some trees , as wind moves them in a slow harmonious dance
So they are waiting
Expecting
I lean my head on Alex's shoulder again suddenly letting out a deep sigh
“Alessia, Dont worry Everything will be fine” Alex says softly as If he is trying to reassure himself as well as me .
I raise my head , nodding and lock my eyes with him “ We can only hope.”
Alex adds “They wont make passage easy for us and then just hurt you when you arrive ,it makes no sense”
I tilt my head as I think about it logically “You have a point, I hope you are right ‘
He gives me a soft gentle look “ Thats my girl.” My heart races and I return a small smile . Reaching for my hand he laces it with his and turns us around to return to the room .
“Good night.” He calls over his shoulder as we cross the threshold
The guide calls back . “ I will be downstairs watching the entrance although we are safe here”
Safe for how long I wonder ?
Alex nods shutting the door gently “Lets go back to bed” he says quietly “We will be leaving early”
I nod even though I know sleep will be an impossible feat , Settling in the bed
I look around once more
Safe way house for the coven
Which means they are listening to everything
Is that a good thing ?
Tomorrow we get answers to that and so many more
Tomorrow my life as I know it ends and my new one begins afresh
