Chapter 54 Take-Off
Alessia's POV
I watch Alex as he steps out of the office his entire demeanor has changed. He seems stiff, jaw clenched tight and his eyes are filled with a kind of urgency that makes my stomach twist in knots.
"We need to leave" he says simply addressing both of us
Luca leaps to his feet immediately and I stand slowly my knees wobbly. Alex crosses over and places a hand on my lower back steadying me .I hold on to him tightly as we walk towards the entrance hall .My heart is banging loudly in my ears
We walk out quickly, as I try to keep my breath even.
Alex nods at the guards "Get the luggage and put it in the plane" he doesn't wait for them to respond as we step into the elevator and press the button. The elevator dings as it arrives Luca enters first scanning it quickly before facing us and nodding
"What was that about? Can someone hide in plain sight? " They are being so cautious it's terrifying me the more.
As we step in to the elevator I face him "Alex, is this really happening?" I whisper my heart still ringing in my ears he squeezes my hand once and the warmth anchors me a bit. When the elevator stops at the rooftop. The air is thick with repressed tension the guards holding the luggage step out first. Alex is silent, his head low as he seems deep in thought probably planning something.
"Signor it's clear" the guards call out as we finally step in to the rooftop and hot air hits my face. The small white private plane sits proudly waiting and the pilot stands by the open door headset on waiting patiently for his passengers.
He bows in respect "SIgnore Ferrini first coordinates have been set, ready to move at your signal"
Alex nods and leads me up the stairs and into the small comfy plane that houses eight chairs. Luca climbs in behind us.
Before we take off Alex brings out his phone and makes a all
"Mama" his voice is calm as he explains that we are travelling not telling her where or why.
“ Mama stay home as much as possible and only close family friends are allowed into the Mansion" before she can argue he says-
“ just do what I say Mama, till I call again regards to Isabella" and hangs up
He calls Andre next-
"Andre listen to me carefully" Pacing in the cabin
"I will be away for some days , I have sent Anto and extra security to you to fortify the perimeter . Make sure everything runs smoothly on the home front"
He nods at something Andre says to him.
"Yes Andre , Confirm if they have arrived . Now"
He hngs up and calls Anto next to find out of he has arrived at the mansion and to make sure he takes a dozen extra guards .
I gulp watching him prowl like a predator as he handles his business ensuring his family is safe and another layer of defense cracks in my heart . He is so protective of the people he cares about it .It is such an admirable quality.
Suddenly he pauses , then dials another number and I see his expression become colder and more dangerous.
He growls into the phone "Sirrano “ and I sit up right both I and luca staring at him curiously
"So you had the guts to hold a meeting with the entire peninsula and not invite me " Alex says coldly
Luca glances to me his eyes widening with apprehension .There is a mumbling from Thomas but its too low for me to hear , Alex's lips curl into a tight grimace
"Oh so you were told ?" He asks placing a hand on the headrest of his chair
"Excellente It will be absolutely in human of you to keep openly chasing an innocent person"
Alex pauses as more muffled responses come though
Alex raises a brow "Well thomas you sound occupied , are you on your way to recruit more Mafia lords to join your witch hunt ? "
Alex smiles as if Thomas is standing right in front of him squirming under his gaze.
"Where you are going is none of my business" Alex says his voive low "I only called to confirm you had heard the truth ,I will be on a business trip for a while keep your men away from my Family or there will be blood shed"
His fingers tighten on the phone "Alessia is innocent , you know thr truth now"
I watch him my heart filling with gratitude Lucas's earlier words ringing in my ears ." Alex will protect you … "
Alex pauses for a moment then ends the call
The pilot pokes his head through the cockpit opening
"Signore oermission to take off ?"
Alex gives him a sharp nod ,Just as the engine is started and the wheels are slowly descending , luca presses his head against the window
"Alex , there seems to be a problem" he points out the window as me and Alex look out and sure enough .Two armed Men in La visage t shirts are stepping out of the elvator waving us loudly with their hands , shouting but we can't hear through the thick glass!
The pilot faces us cursing "signore they seem to need immediate attention should I turn around and descend"
My pulse thuds in my ear!
Alex doesnt flinch !
"No! "he says sharply as he buckles up his seat belt
"Proceed to first destination .. " the plane surges upwards engine letting out a loud protest against the wind as the rooftop slowly dissapeares from view .I grip my seat tightly praying as Alex sitting beside me reaches into his pocket and hands me a covered box .
"This is for luck" he whiperes
I raise my brow at him and accept the box opening it to find the most beautiful pearl and gold rosary I have ever seen
"Oh! I squeeze his hand leaning over and giving him a quick peck on his day old stubble
chin ... Extremely grateful for the gift
"Thank you !" I remove it from the box holding it close to my chest kissing it once
