Chapter 35 My Hero!
The gunshots are still ringing in my ears like a boomerang, and my entire body is shaking like a leaf. I dare not try to run yet. Is that Alex? Thomas Sirrano? Or their so-called boss, Signor Marco? Before I can even try and make a run for it, the leader spins me around roughly, pointing the cold nuzzle of his gun to my temple. I freeze as my heart starts thudding loudly in my ears.
“Come any closer and we will shoot her,” the leader growls, holding me tighter as I wince. Dios, he is hurting me! I face the dark alleyway now, praying it’s Alex that walks through and not an enemy. The men move closer to me, caging me in. I start to panic in earnest, then everything seems to pause as Alex and two guards step through the shadows. His eyes are blank, cold, and focused. A sliver of fear courses through my body. He will be very angry with me, but that doesn’t matter now. Survival first. I’ll deal with his anger later.
“You are making a huge mistake,” Alex says calmly as he steps into the alley and I almost weep with relief even though its short lived I am still after all their captive .. His eyes are cold, calm and menacing “Do you not know who she belongs to ?" He tilts his head, sizing them up with a smug grin as his men stand silently behind him. The leader holding me stiffens, pressing his gun harder into my temple as my eyes fill with tears. Is this how my life ends without even getting to know anything about my life and my powers? Without getting to clear the Molano name? I want to scream, but fear has trapped my voice inside my chest.
“Signor Ferrini, it’s nothing personal,” the one on the left stammers. “Marco Vitelli just wants to have a friendly chat with her.”
Alex laughs, a cold sound that makes the hair on my body rise.
“Is this how you convince ladies to have a friendly chat with your boss?”
No one answers. He takes another step forward, and the gun starts to shake on my temple. I close my eyes tight. Please, I hope the safety has not been released yet before fear makes him shoot me. The man is sweating buckets; I can feel it dripping on my shoulder.
“If I come any closer you will die, and if I remain in this exact spot you will still die, so make your choice,” Alex says coldly. “How do you want to die?” I shiver at the cold, menacing tone in his voice and crack open my eyes again, not wanting to miss a thing. I look at Alex then, and I notice that he gives his guards a shake of the head. Before I can think of what that meant, they all, as if by magic, bring out their silencer guns and shoot the men point-blank in the skull. Their lifeless bodies fall on the floor like bottles, and I flinch. I move forward quickly, relief weakening my legs as I nearly stumble to the ground, but Alex catches me before I can reach the floor. He wraps his arms around me tightly, his harsh breaths brushing against my neck.
“Dispose of the bodies and wipe the crime scene clean,” he orders his men.
He turns his attention back to me, and I can tell he is furious, anger radiating off him in waves, and I know I just escaped from the frying pan to the actual fire.
“Merde!” He holds my hair, tugging it back roughly, and I wince in pain.
“Alessia, why did you leave the club?” he demands, his voice laced with anger.
I gulp hard. “Alex… I… I…” My voice is shaky, but I can’t help it. “I needed to get some fresh air and space…” I whisper softly.
“It’s a huge club. What kind of space do you need? Space from what?” he snaps at me.
“Space away from you, Alex,” I whisper. “I can’t think when you are close, I can’t stop burning for you. And it scares me, Alex.”
His jaw clenches, his grip tightening on my hair for a moment, and I hiss in pain, reaching for his hand.
“Alex, please.” Tears prick the back of my eyes.
“So to you, getting air and so-called space is worth your life?” His eyes lower to my lips as his gaze drops to my chest. I must have lost a few buttons in the tussle, and my breasts are peeking, rising and falling in fear, desire flickers on his face for a moment.
“What if I hadn’t made it to you on time?” he growls. “Look at what nearly happened to you! Do you still think escaping for air or to put some distance between us is a good idea?”
I shake my head at him, too tired to argue my case anymore. I was careless. I can’t control the trembles that have overtaken my body. He touches my cheek with his calloused thumb as heat sears through me, quick and sharp.
“Don’t ever try this again.” He tugs on my hair again, and I gasp. “Are you hearing me?”
I nod, holding on to his hand to let go of my hair. He studies my face for a moment. Slowly he releases my hair, and he pulls me into his chest, holding me tight.
“Alessia, I have had enough of this pent-up desire! Tonight I will make you mine!” My fear is almost immediately replaced by excitement as his words sink into my soul. I feel my knees go weak again, and the only reason why I am still standing is because he is holding me against him tight.
Before I can say anything, a car drives up slowly, its headlights cutting into the shadows in the alley. It comes to a stop noisily, blocking the exit. Alex detangles from me, pushing me behind him as he removes his gun slowly and cocks it. I grip him tightly from the back, my heart pounding all over again.
No one steps out.
The car is kept on the engine running.
But I can clearly see the silhouette of someone watching and waiting.
