Chapter 179 All Roads lead to Mezza
Alessias POV
I doze off and on during the journey and before I know it . It's morning, looking out the window I notice we are just approaching Mezza . There is a large signboard on the side that says "Welcome to Mezza:Home of Magic" I smirk having a flashback of a few months ago when I arrived at Mezza with Alex,Luca and Angelica full of fears and gaps in my history.
A time was definitely had .
I notice there are only few cars and buses on the road as the driver makes his way to the airstrip . As soon as we arrive at the private air strip the bus finally comes to a stop.
“We have arrived Mezza” the driver announces and the doors slides open as cold frigid air rushes in.
I definitely didn't miss the weather , shivering I pull Miranda's suit closer to me. I didn't have a chance to change my clothing into something comfortable. As soon as we are on the plane I will do just that.
Alex gets up stepping down first , I watch him as he scans the airstrip for a few minutes before waving to us to come down.
“Coast is clear”
My father steps down first and I follow him the minute my feet touch the ground I feel a hum of magic, the soil welcoming me back home.
For a few moments I stand there breathing in the cold air I watch Alex’s plane "Ferrini Air " as it patiently waits for us about fifty meters away
White and sleek
Luca whistles “I almost forgot how gorgeous your plane is Alex”
I must confess its a lovely plane…
Alex shrugs ,being very modest about it.
“Luca stop clowning around its the same plane we have been using for all our travels”
“It seems different though” Luca insists “Perhaps I didn’t pay attention to it when we were leaving Sicily because we left at the crack of dawn.”
Angelica laughs “Back when we were all still innocent and had not decided to break into enemy territory to swap a magical relic.”
Lucy laughs, folding her arms around her frame “Well I think I am the best judge since I haven't seen it before” Pausing for the extra dramatic effect.She flapped her around shouting “It is Magnifico !”
Alex says nothing as he hides a smile with a cough.I chuckle softly and she turns to me. “Princess are you okay ?You have been so quiet”
I give her a reassuring smile “Yes Lucy but I am still recovering from all the transformations"
She gives me a warm hug whispering in my ear “You did good, take all the time you need, we are here for you.”
Her words warm my heart as I squeeze her hand once as she lets me go.
Angelica sighs “I still remember the first time I stepped on the plane in Malta”
I raise an eyebrow at her in surprise “You were so distant and aloof.”
Her cheeks turn pink “I was travelling with strangers my boss had ordered me to help”
Touche ,we were strangers to her then.
And she points at Luca “Besides Luca kept pointing at me and accusing me of keeping secrets.”
Luca laughs “That’s because you glared at me for the entire journey”
Angelica rolls her eyes at him “Luca you deserved it."
I choose to not get in the middle of this one and let them sort out their lovers quarrel.
Luca says nothing more as he laughs and Alex shakes his head at their antics.
“If all of you are done walking down memory lane we should get on board.”
Luca raises his hands in defeat “Okay okay You are so bossy.”
No one adds another word but I noticed something. Underneath all the jokes and banter we are all low key relieved to be here together again. We survived and that is a big deal.
Luca folds his arms rocking back and forth on his feet "Sure lets go , But were you able to contact the pilot and crew?”
Alex is already pulling out his phone. "They should have been on board since last night,but let me call him ."
He takes a few steps away from us and speaks quietly into the phone .I cannot hear what the pilot says only Alex's side.
“We are at the airstrip.”
“Excellent you are all on board”
“Prepare for immediate departure”
“I do not want any delays”
He cuts the call and walks back towards us “They are on board he is getting the engines ready for take off now”
Hugh steps down at that very moment and joins us scanning the air strip quickly his hand relaxed on his katana resting on his hip “It's too quiet here.” he mutters.
Angelica shrugs “It was this quiet when we arrived too . I take it because it does not have a lot of traffic.”
We all head for the plane, each slow step across the runway feels strange, the magical hum still pressing on my heels but at least it is not cold like La Geneva's signature.I cannot believe we are on our way back to Sicily.
We actually did what we came for!
\-We went to La Casa I learnt about my heritage my magic
\-And we entered La Geneva not only swapping La Rosa in the process but also freeing my father
\-And we all escaped!
Part of me still can't believe how easy this is. I keep waiting for an alarm to go off and for us to be surrounded by La Geneva's armed guards.But the airstrip remains quiet .Lucy comes to stop by my side. “Alessia are you thinking what I am thinking?”
“Our escape was way too easy” I reply calmly
She nods “I expected it to end in chaos”
Angelica hears us and joins in “It didn't because Luca wasn't involved in planning it”
“What do you mean?” Luca protests as he comes up behind Angelica. “I resent that.”
Angelica pokes his side and pulls out her tongue at him as Hugh walks up to us “Luca , she is right.” he adds calmly.
Luca throws up his hands in mock surrender “That's just great ,I am being betrayed by my own team!”
I glance at Alex walking in front of us .
“He looks so calm and zen like.”
Lucy turns to watch him too “Alex always seems that way”
Angelica weighs in her voice a low whisper “But that does not mean he is.”
For a moment we walk in silence and the pilot comes out of the aircraft as we approach. He looks the same like we just parted ways yesterday but it's been months.
He looks at Alex and bows briefly “Signore Alex we are glad to have you back”
Alex nods. “I am glad to make it back John.”
John does not ask any questions but folds his hands at the back “Ferrini air is fueled and ready to go.” he says “The crew have stocked the fridge and bar ,we can leave immediately”
“Let's go” Alex replies
