Chapter 159
Graham’s POV.
The sound of Aerok’s name was still echoing in my mind, he was like a boogeyman in our werewolf community, someone who was the ruler of shadow and darkness and the thing that Douglas wanted to wake him up was nerve-wracking.
I couldn’t help but feel a shiver run down my spine, Aerok’s name was enough to cause havoc and Douglas was trying something so devious that nobody could even imagine even in their darkest dreams.
But before we could dwell further on the issue, Serena stopped us in our tracks, her eyes darting with worry as she voiced her concerns. "What about the scent?" she asked. "My scent can be disguised, but what about the rest of you?"
As Serena voiced her concerns about leaving behind traces of our presence, a sense of unease settled in the pit of my stomach. She was right—while her scent could easily be disguised, the same couldn't be said for the rest of us. I could feel tension coiling in my muscles.
My heart raced as I mulled over her words, a knot of apprehension forming in the pit of my stomach. Eliana, however, stepped forward with a reassuring smile, her confidence unwavering despite the gravity of our situation.
"Do not worry," Eliana said. "I will ensure that none of you are identified. But first, I must cast a spell to mask Raymond's and Graham's scents."
With practiced movements, Eliana began to weave her magic, her fingers tracing intricate patterns in the air as she chanted ancient incantations under her breath. I watched in awe as the air shimmered with unseen energy, the faint hum of magic resonating in the chamber.
As Eliana's spell took effect, a sense of relief washed over me, the weight of our predicament lifting ever so slightly. But amidst the calm, a question lingered in my mind—one that had been gnawing at me since the moment we had met Eliana.
"What are you, really?" I asked. "You're not just an ordinary witch, are you?"
Eliana's lips curved into a smirk at my question, her eyes gleaming with amusement as she regarded me with a knowing gaze. "No, I am not," she replied cryptically. "I am royal."
As Eliana's cryptic revelation hung in the air, a chorus of frowns rippled across our faces, each of us struggling to make sense of her words. Serena was the first to speak up, her brow furrowed with confusion as she sought clarification.
"What do you mean, 'royal'?" Serena asked. "And why would Douglas want to murder you?"
My expression mirrored Serena's concern as he stepped forward, his support unwavering despite the weight of Eliana's revelation. "Whatever it is, Eliana, you can count on us," he said. "We're in this together."
Eliana's gaze softened at Graham's words, a flicker of gratitude passing across her features before she turned to face us once more. "In the otherworld, the royals possessed special powers," she explained. "Healers, seers, casters of powerful spells—our abilities were unlike anything seen in this realm."
A sense of awe washed over me as I absorbed her words, the implications of her heritage sinking in like a stone in the pit of my stomach. If what Eliana said was true, then she truly was something extraordinary—a descendant of a lineage steeped in magic and power.
"But Douglas," Eliana continued, "saw us as a threat. He sought to eliminate us all, to eradicate any trace of royal blood from this world."
The gravity of Eliana's words hung heavy in the air, the weight of her past bearing down on us like a crushing weight. But amidst the darkness that threatened to engulf us, I knew that we stood united—a beacon of hope against the encroaching shadows.
As I urged us to leave swiftly before Douglas's arrival, a sense of urgency hung in the air, driving us forward with a newfound determination. Eliana nodded in agreement, her expression grim with the weight of our impending confrontation.
We hurried through the dimly lit corridors of the castle, each step echoing with the urgency of our mission. But amidst the chaos and uncertainty, a sense of camaraderie blossomed between us, a bond forged in the crucible of adversity.
As we made our way towards the exit, Serena turned to me with a concerned look in her eyes, her voice soft with worry. "Are you alright?" she asked, concern evident in every word.
My lips curved into a reassuring smile as he met Serena's gaze, his eyes shining with love and gratitude. "I'm alright," I replied. "As long as you're with me."
Serena chuckled softly, a warmth spreading through my body at the sound of her laughter. "I'm worried about your health," she admitted.
But I shook my head, my gaze unwavering as I reached out to take Serena's hand in his. "I'll be fine," I reassured her. "And I love you more than anything."
As we stepped out into the cool night air, a sense of relief washed over us, the weight of our burdens momentarily lifted by the promise of a new beginning. We set out into the unknown, united in our resolve to confront the darkness that threatened to engulf us, and I knew that together, we would face whatever trials lay ahead, guided by the strength of our love and the unbreakable bonds that bound us together.
