Chapter 47

Chapter 47
Jaxon

The nurse wheels me down the first hallway in silence, but when she turns right into the next hallway, she starts talking…a lot.

“So what brought you in?” She asks.

“Oh, just a mishap at home,” I say, not wanting to make matters worse by broadcasting to even more people that I was shot in the foot.

The doctor is on red alert, and the cops are already going to get involved. The last thing I want is more people knowing what happened, and as far as I know, I don’t have to tell her anything.

“Your Alpha is very intense.” She says.

“Is she? It probably just seems that way because she’s worried about me.” I say with a shrug.

“She? Oh no, I meant the other man who was in the room with you! He had a very intense look on his face when I walked in. I was worried he was ready to pounce when I said I had to take you away.” She laughs a little. “We don’t get many Alphas here.”

She thinks Roman is my Alpha.

I laugh a little, though. “Roman is a pretty serious guy sometimes, and comes off a little intense because he’s very observant. He pays attention to everything, and he is pretty worried. He’s actually a doctor too. But he isn’t an Alpha. The woman who was in the room with me is my Alpha.”

The wheelchair slows for a second. “The woman is your Alpha?” The nurse asks.

“Yep.”

She goes quiet for a long moment.

“I have never seen a woman Alpha before.” She says finally.

“Never?” I ask.

“No. This was my first time. She wasn’t like the Alphas I’ve come into contact with before. She was so quiet and calm.” The nurse turns down one more hallway and stops outside of a large door.

Above the door is a sign that says X-ray.

“Wait here one second. Let me check to see if they are ready for you.” She says before opening the door and disappearing inside.

She’s gone for a couple of minutes, and when she opens the door again, she isn’t alone. Another woman steps out and smiles at me.

“Hello, Mr. Kim, I’ll help you inside.” She says something to the nurse.

“Bye, I hope you heal well!” The first nurse says to me with a wave, then she’s gone.

The new nurse wheels me over to a bed-like table and helps me climb onto it. Once I’m sitting, she instructs me on how to hold my foot so she can take the X-rays. The whole process goes by pretty quickly, and she is able to position my foot in such a way that it barely causes me any real pain. Although I think the shock and the good feelings from my quickie with Aria in the car earlier are starting to fade. My foot is starting to hurt more and more now, and by the time the X-rays are done, I’m really feeling it.

“Okay, hang tight here, and someone will come pick you up.” The X-ray tech says after she rolls me back outside of the room.

I’m left there to wait, so I take out my phone and see a few messages waiting. Ezra sent one earlier, and I bite back a laugh when I read it.

Ezra: What the hell is going on? Why are Aria’s emotions all over the place? What did you do?

I take a quick selfie, making sure to tilt my head enough to show my bond mark. By now he’s probably well aware of what happened since I can sense him through my bond with Aria. He has to be able to sense me too. I send the photo and open the next message. It’s from a friend of mine asking if I want to come to an event she is hosting. A new up-and-coming artist I’ve been watching is being featured at her gallery, and she wants to know if I can make it.

Disappointment makes my stomach roll a little. I’ve been waiting for this artist to ask to be featured at this gallery for over a year, and it’s finally happening, and I’m stuck at a biker compound! How is this my life? I quickly reply to her message and say I’m not sure if I’ll be available to be there, but I’ll keep her posted.

The next message I open is from my agent. She has been hounding me for a week about my next collection. I have been working on a collection of paintings featuring all of the guys and their careers, but I got stumped on Noah. For weeks, Noah had been in some kind of slump, and not a very appealing subject to paint. I’ve known the guy for basically my whole life, and live with him, so I can easily paint him from memory. However, with this series I wanted to capture different sides of my friends as they go about their day-to-day life, and Noah has been working and sleeping. I couldn’t even capture a good candid moment of him for reference! The guy was giving me nothing! So this meant my collection of pieces was stalled, and now my agent is saying she needs the piece soon.

Well, that isn’t going to be easy since all my supplies are at my studio, and I doubt I can go there without armed escorts. If Aria says it’s safe to go at all.

I’m not sure how long us hiding out at the compound is supposed to last, but we can’t be away from our jobs indefinitely! This is something we are going to have to discuss once all of this is done.

My attention is torn away from my phone when I hear what sounds like heels on the floor, but when I look up, all I see is a man dressed in scrubs walking my way. Something about him is off, but he smiles and waves at me.

“Hi, I’m here to take you back.” He says.

I glance down at his shoes as he passes, and alarms start going off in my head. He starts pushing me down the hall, and the sound of clacking shoes follows us. We’re alone, so the sound must be coming from his shoes, and as far as I know, nurses usually wear sneakers or Crocs. I’m pretty sure this guy is wearing boots.

“Uh, where is the other nurse?” I ask him.

“Taking a break. He asked me to come get you.” The guy says, and my stomach drops a little.

“He”…he just said “he”…

Fear starts to grow inside me when the guy turns down the wrong hallway.

“Oh, my room is back that way,” I say, pointing back in the direction we just came from.

“There has been a change of plans.” He says in a low voice.

“W-what do you mean?” I ask.

He chuckles softly, and then I feel his breath against my ear. “There’s someone else who would like to take a look at you, but he’s going to make you hurt a whole lot more.”

Oh god, I’m fucked.
