Chapter 168
Duncan
I pushed past the guards, fighting with all my might, but they continued to flock in.
I pushed off the last one, sending him flying against the pillar, his skull cracked open and blood gushd out.
Nobody else.
Good.
I grabbed Azeal and carried him on my shoulders
I hoped Anna was safe.
I tried to mind link her but I was way too weak to.
I moved through the maze of the underground, trying to find the exit.
It was almost impossible especially since I was a bit weak and was carrying Azeal on my shoulders.
Levi had not shown up yet which meant something had happened to him.
Just then I found a door and opened it. There was a ladder and a door that led out the underground.
I climbed the ladder, dragging Azeal with me.
I reached the top of the ladder and shoved the rusted trapdoor open with my shoulder. Cold air bit into my skin the moment I emerged into the open night. Moonlight spiked across the overgrown field, and for a second, I let myself believe we were free.
Until I saw him.
Levi stood just a few feet away, eyes blazing. Stance low like a predator ready to strike.
Put him down," he growled, stepping closer. "You're not going anywhere with him."
shifted Azeal's unconscious Boyd off my shoulders, laying him haphazardly on the grass. My body screamed from the effort z muscles trembling , vision swimming. But I stayed on my feet.
"Why are you doing this, Levi?" I asked.
"How could you do this?"
"I told you, you became weak and all because of a simple human girl."
My hands moved, connecting with his face, he flew a couple of feets, hitting a tree.
He stood and wiped off the blood on his face and then sped up to me, punching me right in the face.
Levi's punch cracked against my jaw, sending me crashing to the ground, pain radiated through my skull, but I forced myself up, teeth gritted, vision doubled. The bastard was faster than I remembered-stringer too.
"You should have stayed down," Levi hissed, stalking towards me like a predator tasting blood. "You've always been soft. You walk around with a hard exterior but you let a human girl destroy you, Again"
I spat blood to the side and dragged myself to my feet, every muscle in my body, screening in protest. My ribs ached, my jaw throbbed, but I refused to fall again.
"We both know this is not about, Anna. You've always been jealous of me," i taunted even though I didn't want to believe it.
Finding out my best friend and second in command betrayed me still hurt as hell.
I would have never thought he'd do this.
I still couldn't fully come to terms with it.
"Jealous?" He cackled.
"Yes, jealous. You've never been lucky in love. You wanted Sabrina but she never wanted you,"
Levi's eyes darkened and before I knew it, he was in front of me, his claws extended and swiping at my neck, trying to claw it out but I was dodging every attack, moving in every direction.
"You don't deserve anything you have," he spat. "You killed Lucas and twenty more of our men."
"Lucas is not dead and you are the reason our brothers died. You were working for the enemy."
"So was your precious Anna, hell, she was working for two enemies right under your nose," he growled.
He managed to get one punch in, then another and another
I fell with a thud to ground and
Levi pounced, straddling me, fit raised for another blow, but I caught his wrist mid-aor. With a roar, I twisted, flipping us over. The impact knocked the breath out of both of us, but I didn't stop. I drove my elbow into his ribs, once, twove-felt something crack, but Levi didn't even grunt. His other hand grabbed my throat, squeezing.
"Anna played you like a fool," he snarled. "But not to worry, I ended her.
"Liar!" I growled.
He rose all of a sudden and got out a gun.
"I assure you, I killed her along with your previous baby, tore her stomach right out. And now I'm going to kill you," Levi snarled.
His anger was palpable.
"You're lying," I spat.
"Am I? Would you like to see her body? Or what's left of her?"
Levi raised the gun with a twisted grin, his finger tightening on the trigger. "Say hello to Anna for me in the afterlife."
Bang!
The bullet whizze past my head, grazing my shoulder. The sting was sharp, but I barely flinched. He fired again and I rolled to the side, dirt and cold grass flying as I dodged. The third shot struck the ground whee my head has been just second ago.
Rage exploded in my chest.
A roar ripped from my throat as my bone snapped and reshaped. My claws extended, for byest though my skin, and in seconds, I was on all fours, my woif taking fill control.
Levi barely had time to aim before I was on him.
I tackled him to the ground with cruising force.
I knew Anna was still alive, I could feel her heartbeat, yet I sensed that she was weak too and that scared the shit out of me and brought out rage.
The fact that he'd thought about harming the two most important people in my life made my vengeful.
Levi fought back, slashing at me with his claws, but I was done holding back. I tire into him with everything I had, years of brotherhood shattered in my teeth. He screamed as I sank my fangs into his shoulder, ripping flesh from bone. He kicked at my ribs, landed a blow, but I didn't stop.
He aimed the gun again, arm trembling from the pain. The shot rang out but it never reached me.
A blur of movement intercepted the bullet. Lucas.
He dropped in front of me like a goddamn avenging spirit, knocking Levi's hand upward just in time. The bullet flew harmlessly into the trees.
"You're alive," Levi choked out, eyes wide with disbelief.
His expression was exactly as mine.
Lucas was alive.
"Disappointed?"
I shifted back to my human form.
"Glad you're back, brother,' i said.
Lucas smiled.
"Anna told me everything. Rest, I'll finish this,"
"She's okay, then?"
"Yes, she's at the mansion right now but she's a bit wounded."
I sighed in relief. That's all I needed to know.
I stepped forward , "This is my fight, Lucas,"
Lucas gave me a look. Stern and questioning but he stepped back.
I turned to Levi, who was already trying to stand, blood dripping from his mouth, his claws twitching. "You were my brother," i said, voice low and full of grief. "But you made your choice,"
He lunged again but I was ready.
I sidestepped and slammed my fist into his gut, knocking the wind out of him. He doubled over, and I brought my knee up into his chin with a sickening crunch. He staggered back, spitting teeth, and I didn't give him a second to recover.
I drove into him with relentless fury each punch fueled by betrayal, each blow a final goodbye to the man I once trusted. I landed a brutal hit to his temple. His legs gave out, but I grabbed him by the collar, yanked him up, and whispered, "This is for Anna."
I sank my claws into his chest and tore his heart free with a roar that echoed through the night.
Levi collapsed, lifeless, into the dirt.
Lucas approached silently, nodding once. I stood there, blood on my hand, chest heaving, staring down at the man who had once been my brother. It was over.
