Chapter 160
Duncan
"Boss, are you okay?" I heard the voice of Doctor Harrison but didn't bother to look up from where I sat. I couldn't, if I did, I wouldn't be able to hold back the tears that threatened to spill.
"Leave me, Harrison," I growled low, far from in the mood to talk.
"But it's important,"
"Then tell it to Levi," I growled, restraining myself from punching him.
It had been two whole days since the secret was revealed and all I could feel was pain, pain so brutal, I felt my chest burn like my heart was being pierced by hot magma.
I hated her!
I hated her so much.
At least I should, I know I should..
"It's about Anna,"
The sound of her name sent me momentarily into blind fit of rage and before I could stop myself, I sped up to Harrison, grabbed his neck and choked him.
"I said, I don't want to hear it," I gritted out.
Doctor Harrison gasped for air, clawing at my wrist. His face turned red, but I couldn't let go. Not yet. The rage burned too deep, too wild.
"Boss... Please... she's..." He choked out.
My grip faltered for a second. I didn't want to care. I didn't want her name to make my heart twist like this. But it did.
I shoved him away, breathing hard, chest heaving. Harrison stumbled back, coughing violently.
Why couldn't anybody understand that I wanted no mention of her name! None at all.
It felt so raw, the wound, made even worse when Levi continued to warn me about her.
"She's dead to me!" I growled. "I want no mention of that name ever again,"
"You might want to hear this, Duncan."
"Except she's dead, I don't care,"
"No," Harrison shook his head. "She's pregnant! Anna is pregnant,"
My blood immediately ran cold and my eyes widend. My hands shook and slowly,.I turned around.
"What?"
"Anna is pregnant," he answered again.
"No," I shook my head. "No, that's not possible."
"Yes," Harrison said firmly, his voice steadier now. "That's what I have been trying to tell you, "
I stared at him, trying to breathe, trying to think -but everything in me refused to believe it. Anna? Pregnant?
With my child?
A bitter laugh escaped me. "Is this another one of her games? Another lie?" I demanded in a cold, slicing voice
"No, I tested her myself. She'd been complaining about weird symptoms and I thought to test her for pregnancy. She's truly pregnant,"
"How could this have happened?" I missed, eyes wide and heart beating like a drum against my rib cage.
"Well, I suppose you both didn't use protection, did you?" Harrison offered.
Before I could respond to his poorly timed joke, I heard footsteps walking towards us.
"What's going on here?" Levi's voice echoed.
He'd been in charge of everything ever since the incident.
"Anna is pregnant," I said as if to test the words myself. It tasted like poison and like honey.
Levi froze, his eyes bulging out of their sockets. It was one of the worst feelings ever.
He slowly glanced at Harrison.
"It's true,"
"How are we sure that it's his?"
I hadn't even thought of that but the sheer thought of Anna being with another man sent me into momentarily paralysis
It somehow affected me more than realizing that she was the mole.
What was her motive?
I didn't understand it
"We aren't but I can test for paternity,"
"No," I shook my head.
"Why not?" Levi asked, walking towards me with a confused look.
"Because despite the fact that she is the mole, I trust her."
"You've got to be kidding me. She almost destroyed us. God only knows what else she's given to Azeal you use against us. She's the reason Lucas is in a coma for goodness sake and you believe her, a human?"
"Yes, yes I do. The kid is mine and I'm going to have him, no matter what,"
I grinded out.
Levi laughed a hollow laugh, his gaze disapproving.
"What have you become, Duncan. What has that bitch done to you?" he asked, genuinely looking disgusted. It was the most emotion I had seen him show in a single day.
I shook my head.
"I have no idea." I confessed as I fell back on my seat.
"Harrison, excuse us," I heard Levi say and soon after footsteps retreating.
"Duncan, what the hell are you doing?" he scolded.
"Taking responsibility of my kid, that what,"
"You don't know that this child belongs to you," he gritted out
I sighed.
"Leave me alone, Levi, please,"
I said, my voice weak.
Anna...
Her voice haunted me
I hadn't been able to sleep for the past two days, wondering where I had gone wrong.
The betrayal stung, and for each day that had passed, it stung worse.
My chest hurt but this pregnancy?
This meant I could chase closure without feeling stupid. She has my seed growing in her.
"We have to find her." I suddenly sat up, armed with a new sense of resolve
"What?"
Levi exclaimed with displeasure.
"Yes. I can't have her unprotected while carrying my baby,"
Levi laughed but it sounded hollow.
"This is insane, this is a joke. You can't be serious, Duncan. She lied to you, almost destroyed your sanity,"
"I'm not going to let my kid be taken care of by a human," I gritted but Levi wasn't buying my logic.
Levi crossed his arms, staring at me like I'd completely lost it, and maybe I had.
"You think charging after her like some knight in shining armor will solve this? Duncan, she infiltrated our ranks. She betrayed us."
"I know!" I roared, rising to my feet again, fists clenched at my sides. "Do you think I haven't replayed everything in my mind over and over? Do you think I'm not furious? I am. I'm more angry than I've ever been in my life."
Then act like it," Levi growled. "Don't let your emotions blind you. This isn't love, Duncan. It's obsession wrapped in guilt."
I didn't respond immediately.. Instead, I walked to the window, gripping the edge of the sill so hard my knuckles turned white. Rain has started to fall outside. Slow at first, then harder. It reminded me of the way Anna cried the night she confessed -tears she thought I didn't notice.
"I don't love her," I said, more to myself than to Levi. "But I can't stop caring,"
Levi scoffed. "You're going to get yourself killed. Worse, you'll drag us down with you."
"Then so be it," i muttered. "If the child is mine, I won't abandon him. Not like my father did me,"
Levi flinched at that. Silence fell between us for a long moment.
"Very well then but don't say I don't warn you,"
With that Levi walked out leaving in my miserable state.
