Chapter 156
Anna
"Go, I'll be fine. I feel better. Just get one of the caterers to get me some food and wine,"
I said to Duncan. He was thirty minutes later and wouldn't leave because he believed I'd collapse and die the moment he left and he couldn't have that apparently.
"Are you sure?"
"I am sure. I have been sure for the last thirty minutes!" I glared at him.
"I'm just worried. What if this is some kind of internal injury..."
"Duncan!" I snapped. "Go. The doctor will let you know if that is the case plus you have guards here."
"Alright," Duncan sighed.
"Be with your phone at all times, I'll keep checking on you until Dr Harrison comes over."
"Alright, bye bye," I said as he gave me a small kiss on the lips.
I let out a sigh as soon as he left.
Finally,
I loved him but he was such a worry spot. It got on my nerves sometimes.
Plus, I had to figure out a way to leave and go to Azeal.
I rose from the bed about to prepare when the door opened.
Estonia walked in wearing a black number. She looked gorgeous with her hair up and diamond hoop earrings.
"Estonia... What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I came to get something for Duncan and to check on you,"
"Oh. Thank you. You look great by the way,"
"Well of course I do, I'm french,"
She chuckled and then glanced around.
"I'm looking for a white dresser"
She glanced around and then exclaimed when her eyes landed on the white dresser a couple of meters away.
She walked over to the dresser, opebed6a drawer and took out a small book and then two slips of paper.
She glanced through and nodded when she realized it was the right one.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Duncan's speech and a few other important notes,"
She shrugged.
"Is Harrison not here yet?" She asked.
"Not really, no,"
Estonia hummed thoughtfully, slipping the items into her clutch. "Well, I suppose he's running late. Traffic in this place is always a nightmare during these events." She turned back to me with a small smile. "Are you sure you're alright though? You look a little pale."
I nodded quickly. "I'm fine. Just tired. A little dizzy earlier, but it's passed."
"Hmm," she said, unconvinced. "You really should be more careful, Anna. You don't want to give Duncan a heart attack."
I offered a tight smile, my mind already back on my plan.I needed her to leave soon. I couldn't risk her suspecting anything.
"Alright, I'm off." she saod, her accent coming out.
"Have fun, Estonia,"
"Oh, I plan to. There's a lot of girlfriends I plan on stealing tonight,"
I chuckled and watched her leave...
Now, I just had to see Doctor Harrison before I put my
But after an hour of waiting and no sign of him, I left Duncan's room.
Troy was waiting outside and began to follow me when I started walking down the hall.
I rolled my eyes. He and Randy were always around, it annoyed me but at least they barely spoke which gave me ample time to think.
I made my way to one of the rooms closest to the front of the house where guests would be coming through. I'd wait for an hour for Doctor Harrison before disappearing into the night
Everything was ready. I had prepared for this the night prior.
I opened the windows and a cold breeze hit my face. The night air was crisp, it was almost like it knew there was a party.
There was even a scene in the air that smelled sweet. Of course that could be all the kegs of wings that had been brought in but the moment felt oddly poetic.
I breathed it in, steadying myself as the cool air wrapped around me like an invitation. It whispered go now, but I still had to wait. Timing was everything.
Big, old, young powerful men came out of wealthy big cars with their women who looked equally as powerful.
I was mesmerized by the power some of the women exuded even though they weren't alone or were meant to be the secondary characters, they still managed to look like the main characters.
They were dressed in the best couture.
They continued to troop in and after a while.and after a while, a sleek car pulled up, its doors opening with an almost theatrical slowness. I wasn't paying much attention until I saw who stepped out.
My heart stopped.
Azeal
And beside him Celia.
I almost collapsed to the ground.
There was no way I was seeing right
This was a joke from hell.
They were arm in arm, laughing like th world was nothing but glitter and champagne. He looked sharp, like a man born to wear power. And Celia -of all people -was wearing a deep emerald gown that clung to her curves like it was sewwb directly into her skin. My mouth went dry.
What were they doing here?
No, why were they here?
They weren't supposed to be in this part of the city, much less attending Duncan's event. My pulse quickened as my brain tried to process it.
I couldn't.
It made no sense. Not unless they had a plan...
Oh my God.
Duncan had no idea who they were and they wouldn't dare to venture here if they didn't have a plan.
A plan to kill Duncan.
I wasted no time, I ran downstairs to confront them but before I could get there, they were already inside the hall.
Shit, shit.
I couldn't let whatever they were planning happen.
I ran upstairs to Duncan's room and searched for the dress he'd gotten me. I got ready as fast as possible.
I fixed up my face with some make up and when I looked into the mirror, I was impressed but I had achieved it in less than twenty minutes.
I left the room and Troy's eyes widened in both confusion and awe.
"I'm going to the party, no need to come with me," I said quickly but Troy didn't listen, he was already following behind me.
I sighed. It didn't matter anyway. I was going to find a way to lose him somehow.
I made my way out to the main building and towards the Annex opposite.
Men and women stared at me in awe as I walked past them...
I got to the entrance of the great hall and the guards stared at me with awe and a bit of confusion but they didn't try to stop me.
The hall was magnificent, better than it was earlier. The chandeliers glittered like failing stars, their golden light reflecting off glossy poker tables, roulette wheels, and the gold-trimmed blackjacks booths that made the hall feel like a high-end casino straight out of Monte Carlo. Every corner exuded wealth, from the velvet-draped slot machine to the groupies in sharp tuxedo shuffling cards with hypnotic ease. Jazz hummed low in the background, and glasses of champagne clink like secret deals.
It was dazzling, it was dangerous. And I had no time for any of it.
My eyes cut through the blue of flashing lights and expensive suits, hunting for them-Azeal and Celia
Then I saw him but before I could walk towards him, a hand spun me around...
"Anna?". Duncan asked, his expression a cross between confused and aroused.
"Duncan, Hi. I uh, was feeling much better," I said.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes. Also, I think you're in danger,"
