Chapter 144
Anna
I woke up again in cold sweat, feeling like someone was watching me.
There was nobody in the room yet I could feel there was. In fact, I knew there was.
I had been in this situation too many times to not know that someone was in here. Just hiding in the shadows.
"Whoever you are, I know you're here. Come out," i snapped...
Right before my eyes, a figure materialized in the middle of the room and then..
"Alice?
"Shhh." She whispered.
"How? What are you doing here?" I asked staring at her.
""It's a spell. It won't last long and I don't have enough energy for it to."
I nodded, still surprised.
It was surreal.
"Are you okay? She asked.
"A little bed ridden but yeah." I nodded. "Do you know who did this? Did Azeal do it?"
"I don't know. We've not had any contacts with him but we heard about the attack."
"Where did you get the info from?" I asked.
"Your man told Tim. He wanted his opinion on Whether or not it wasn't foul play. In fact, he'll be here in a couple of minutes to interrogate."
"Interrogate who?" I asked with a frown.
"His men,"
She said and began to fade away.
"Wait," I jerked and immediately regretted it, pain spreading all over my body.
She was gone.
I blinked, staring at the space where she used to be.
How was that even possible?
Was I to believe that every mythical creature existed?
"Interrogation, huh? So, he suspected there was a mole. I wondered if he suspected me. I stood up from my bed, groaning at the pain.
It was manageable to walk but still incredibly painful, too painful.
I managed to grab the edge of the table and steady myself, breathing heavily through the pain. My legs trembled beneath me, but I forced them to move. I couldn't just lie there while things happened around me. I had to know what Duncan was planning and if he suspected me.
The door suddenly opened and Sabrina walked in with narrowed gaze.
"I see you're awake,"
"What are you doing here?" I asked, glaring at her.
"Who were you talking to?" She questioned, folding her arms over her chest so tightly that her breasts threatened to burst out of her dress.
"Nobody,"
She gave me a strange look and slowly swept her eyes around the room.
"You're lying,"
"I am not. Maybe you're just hearing things,"
I shot back.
"I am not. I heard you talking to someone,"
"Well then, you can clearly see there no one else in the room," I replied with an air of nonchalance.
She eyed me up and down before rolling her eyes.
"Well, Duncan wanted me to check on you. Glad to see you're alive enough for me torture you some more. Also, please seat, you're shaking like a fucking leaf."
I glared at her but took her advise and sat.
My legs were barely holding my body upright. It hurt way too much to stand.
"So, how does it feel to be the hero?" She asked.
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh, please. Don't act like you're not responsible for saving Duncan and everyone else. I mean you brought a machine gun to a fist fight. Well, an ambush. You did good,"
"What are you doing?" I snapped.
She raised an eyebrow at me.
"What? Complimenting you?"
"Yes, that. Why are you doing that." I asked with skeptical tone and an equal skeptical look.
She rolled her eyes and sighed, shaking her head like a disappointed mother but in this case, she was a disappointed bully.
"Believe it or not, Anna. Just because I hate your guts and your human... flesh. Doesn't mean I won't appreciate you saving my pack. Duncan's fortress is the most protected Mafia house in the world. Ideally, nobody should have been able to get in but somehow they were able to. Everyone should have died but your quick thinking saved them. I appreciate you for that."
I stared at her it was obvious she was being sincere but I still didn't trust her.
"You're welcome." I finally said, regardless of how I felt inside.
"Now, rest. Can't have you falling and dying. Duncan wouldn't believe me if I said I did nothing,
I snickered, she smiled.
It was awkward but I felt like a quiet truce had been made between us.
"uh, what's going on outside?" I asked.
"Duncan thinks there's a mole and he is trying to fish it out." She answered with a shrug. "Anyway, rest." She said stiffly and turned to leave.
She paused for a second without looking at me and then proceeded to leave.
I sighed. So much for getting first hand information.
I did have to take to Tim but I knew it wouldn't be wise to. Blowing his cover would destroy everything. I couldn't let that happen.
I leaned back slowly, the mattress groaning beneath me as I tried to find a position that didn't make me feel like I was being ripped apart. The pain was a cruel reminder of everything I'd been through.
A mole.
Duncan"s suspicion was stressing the hell out of me.
I had to get him out of my trail somehow, make him forget about this ridiculous notion of there being a mole.
Or at least cover my tracks .
It was already midnight when I heard the door open. I knew it was Duncan without looking.
I heard rustlings as if he was taking ofd his clothes and soon enough, I heard footsteps but not towards me. Towards the bathroom.
I heard the shower began to run not seconds later and after rwn minutes, he was out.
I waited for him to come to bed bed but he didn't. He only came closer, kissed my cheeks and left again.
I sighed, wondering where he was going and wondering if he had found out anything that placed me in a weord position.
