Chapter 119
Anna
I sat at the dining table with Jonah, the baldy and Levi the next morning. Sabrina was not here yet which put me a little at ease
I had slept all through the night and I had woken up to less pain and was even able to walk. The stitches in my back still hurt s ton but it was nothing compared to yesterday. Estonia had shown up to check on me.
She was slowly becoming close to me and I found it strange. She had a lot of similarities to Lily except she was more of a Madame than bubbles from Powerpuff girls which lily embodied white well
"How is your back feeling, Anna?" Jonah was the one to ask. He looked genuinely concerned which confused me a bit.
I glanced up at him. "Uh, good. Thanks. Still hurts a bit but at least I can walk.
"Maybe we should have sent one of the msids to your room with a test of food,
"No, it's fine. I can walk and to be honest, I hate breakfast in bed,"
"Still..."
Just then Sabrina walked in, her expression impassive and her steps almost angry. She looked like she was about to explode and the fire engine red jumper she was wearing didn't particularly help her case.
"Sabrina. Didn't think you'd be joining us," Jonah said with a smirk.
"And why wouldn't I be?" She asked, her voice hard as she pulled out a chair and took a seat.
"I don't know, maybe because I expected you to be halfway out of the country because of what you did." Jonah smirked.
"Maybe you should mind your business, Jonah,"
"Or what? You're going to break my back like your broke Anna's back?"
"Okay, that's it." Sabrina hit the desk, standing up abruptly.
"One more word from your bald headed mouth and I swear to God..."
"Enough!" Levi yelled, his eyes hard.
Sabrina immediately clamped her mouth shut and whatever Jonah was about to say was lost in his mouth too
"Can we eat breakfast in quiet, please?"
He said, looking between the three of us.
"Whatever," Sabrina said.
The table was completely silent as we ate.
Sabrina was throwing angry looks my way while Jonah was busy sniffing his meal like he'd not eaten in months.
Levi was poised as he ate. Basically in his own world...
I finished my meal and excused myself.
Sabrina glared at me as I walked out of the dinning room and made my way to the living room where a bunch of Duncan's foot soldiers were busy drinking, smoking and eating.
I walked past them but I could feel their gaze on me, penetrating...
I needed to speak to Tim.
As soon as I was out in the open, I neared the fountain, made sure to look around and then called Tim.
"Hey, I have been calling you!" Tim practically screamed.
"Yeah, I was indisposed." I answered with a grimace.
"What do you mean by that? Did something happen?"
I sighed.
"Yeah. But it's no pug deal. How is the Potion coming along?"
"Still working on it. Mark believes he can turn it into gas but he can't do anything about the smell."
"That's fine. Maybe they'll think it's a fart or something,"
Tim chuckled.
"I guess. Look, Anna, if you aren't safe. Please get out of there. We can find another way to get them."
"I'm fine. I can handle myself. Besides, I have things I need to do."
"Are you sure, Anna? I don't want to lose you because of..."
"I'm fine. Stop worrying. The sooner you finish with our secret weapon, the faster I can bring down this place and leave,"
"Alright then. But the chief wants to speak with you soon. He's worried and so is Sly,"
"Buy me some time, okay. If they know I'm injured, they'll take me off the case. I can't afford that," i whispered, looking around for intruders.
Tim sighed, clearly exasperated but my stubborness.
"Fine. I'll do that. Just be careful."
"I will, now goodbye,"
The next day, I was already mostly moving my body well. I had always been a fast healer right from when I was younger.
Estonia had come to check on me.
Duncan had tried calling me again and I had almost picked up this time but thought against it.
I was far from ready to talk to him.
Everything was still too raw.
A sigh escaped my lips.
Tonight, Viktor was taking me out to dinner.
He had no idea about what had happen between Sabrina and I didn't want him to.
The less he knows about me, the better.
A knock came at my door and I opened it.
Levi was standing at the door.
"Uh, Levi. Hi..."
"May I?" He gestured into my room.
I nodded and opened the door wider for him to come in and closed the door.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"Good, the pain is only mild now."
He nodded. "That's good to hear,"
"Thanks,"
There was a long pause before he spoke again.
"About what happened between you and Sabrina... I'd like the issue to be kept between us."
"Are you saying not to tell Duncan?" I asked.
He smiled. "In a manner of speaking especially if you want me to keep your own secrets to myself,"
"I have no secrets Levi,"
He bared his teeth in predatory smile that sent shivers down my spine.
"Sure." He scoffed.
"Duncan loves you. Why? I don't understand but I can't argue with his decision. I'm sure you don't want him finding out what I know about you and your sketchy past that doesn't seem to exist much."
Silence
"Fine, I won't say anything,"
"Good. Very good." He said and stared at me for a long moment before turning to leave.
"Rest up," he paused at the door.
"Also, if Duncan asks about what happened to your back, you tell him it was from the accident, are we clear?"
"Crystal," I gritted out.
"Excellent," he said curtly before leaving.
A sigh escaped my lips.
Now, I really had to hasten things up.
